Attention?
Exactly. It was all for a laugh.
I wonder how many people have been driven off because the regulars on here need a Monty Python-esque argument clinic. And I'd have counted myself in that group not long ago.

We miss you on here Dan - but staying out of serious threads is the best way to not get too beaten down!

Would you have counted yourself in that group for just 5 mins, or the full half hour?

It's stupid to ban people off a forum unless they are being explicitly racist or whatever.
Just being a dick shouldn't be enough otherwise we could all have gone at some point.
I agree, it amazes me how many people can't (in reality won't) ignore users - whether that be by pressing the ignore button, or just not rising to them
I do think there should be an admin 'forced mutual ignore' in place when 2 posters do nothing but drag threads down constantly
They react more to the clamour of people. Basically if you get complained about a lot they'd rather just get rid of the user because it's less hassle. Agree they do usually wait for repeat instances of that before banning. But users should be grown up enough not to go running to the owners unless again, something really serious was said, but in about 10 years of being on here I can maybe remember one or two noteworthy invents like that. The rest is just noise.
I think there are far too many people around who want to be shocked/disgusted/appalled by what some people say. They're incapable of ignoring those with opposing opinions so they go out of their way to silence them. They stifle discussion. They make society dull.
Bring back the banned and ban the red card wavers.

What if one's none of those things and is just a complete arse?
It's a bit like saying someone who keeps smashing up your pub is just being enthusiastic.
