Quite an amazing lack of self-awareness isn't it. Although to be fair to her it was the muppets that came before her that did the damage.

Indeed. Bit of a poisoned chalice but she seems to have drained it and then asked for a refill.

The scene was set for her to come in and arrange a cooling-off period after the referendum but she instead decided to sell out and go for the worst type of rhetoric and long-term solution. And she has shown herself only interested in a united Tory party and UKIP-loving power base. Trumptastic power-grabbing, I'll give her that.

Get on with Taking Back Control you mean? This is the problem - it sounds good but it's an empty soundbite in the real world. In reality the control is disappearing rapidly and now we're the junior partner in negotiations about our future, never mind the Union being in a perilous state.

Still I suppose our failure will at least be a red, white and blue failure.

Dear EU,

In the mistaken belief that it's possible to erase the last one hundred years, a slender majority of the electorate that bothered to vote has decided it wants the currently United Kingdom wants to leave the EU.

Like most people with more than an iota of common sense, I realise this enterprise will be a futile exercise, but the non-resident owners of newspapers like the mail and the sun have whipped up enough people who believe Britain can return to the heady days of early 1914, before two wars bankrupted this country and destroyed our position as a world power.

We will of course, expect to receive back moneys owed to the UK from the Austro-Hungarian Empire and other now-departed countries and empires.

Above all, I must look to preserve the tory party.

Lots of love

Teresa May.

It got worse when she hit her stride and started talking about a stronger, fairer, more outward-looking and united Britain.

The response to that should have been laughter.

Indeed, not to mention "We want to take back parliamentary sovereignty (which wasn't fully subservient to the EU anyway),"

Great, so will you support these amendments allowing parliament a vote on the terms of the final deal?

Nah, we'll just take David Davis's word for it that it will be all OK.

I actually have more contempt for the likes of Soubry, Morgan, Grieve, Clarke who talked the talk, but wimped out come vote time.

The war is over??!

It hasn't even started yet. But you're right to think in terms of struggle and sacrifice. I take no pleasure in the fact that those who voted to Leave will suffer the major casualties.

And will it be worth it? Not a chance.

We will have to make new trade agreements with the EU on the back of at least two years of acromony. How is that for starters?

Britain will face nuclear fuel shortages, truck queues at Dover and “serious disruption” to air traffic if Brexit talks fail, the EU’s chief negotiator has warned as he outlined conditions for an “ambitious” UK-EU trade deal.

In a wide-ranging speech ahead of Article 50 exit talks, Michel Barnier warned Britain it must agree “principles for an orderly withdrawal” before trade talks, including its financial dues and the rights of 4m UK and EU migrants.

Speaking shortly after reports of a shooting incident at the British parliament, Mr Barnier expressed his “solidarity” with the UK over the “serious events unfolding in London”.

Mr Barnier, while endorsing UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s call for a “bold and ambitious free-trade agreement”, insisted that ambition must also maintain “a level playing field” on tax, labour law and consumer rights.

“The sooner we agree on the principles of an orderly withdrawal, the sooner we can start preparing this future relationship,” he said. “On the other hand if we do not address these uncertainties and put off difficult subjects to the end of the negotiations, we will be heading for failure.”

Mr Barnier did not completely rule out the possibility of agreeing a free-trade deal in time for Britain’s exit – one of London’s key demands. However, he said the new partnership would “take time” and that transition arrangements may be necessary.

Brushing aside one of Mrs May’s red lines over the future role of European judges, Mr Barnier explicitly stated the EU’s demand that interim measures “will be within the framework of European law” and the European Court of Justice. Such a transition could not allow Britain to pick and chose access to areas of the single market.

In one of the most provocative parts of his address, Mr Barnier tackled head-on Mrs May’s assertion that “no deal is better than a bad deal”, setting out a bleak vision of the “serious consequences” from leaving without agreement.

“More than 4m British citizens in the EU and European citizens in the UK faced with complete uncertainty about their rights and their future; the reintroduction of binding customs controls, which will inevitably slow down trade and lead to queues of trucks at Dover; serious disruption to air traffic; an overnight suspension in the movement of nuclear materials to the UK,” he said.

“A no-deal scenario is not our goal. We want an agreement. We want to succeed.

Although Mr Barnier was uncompromising on the need for Britain to “settle its accounts”, he avoided putting a figure on any exit payment, or explaining in more detail what principles for a withdrawal would need to be agreed.

“When a country leaves the Union, there is no punishment,” Mr Barnier said. “There is no price to pay to leave. But we must settle the accounts. We will not ask the British to pay a single euro for something they have not agreed to as a member.”

The European Commission is also keen to show it will be constructive and ambitious in its handling of trade talks, once the basics of a divorce are worked out.

“We agree with Theresa May in her call for a ‘bold and ambitious free-trade agreement’. Yes to ambition!” Mr Barnier said.

But in a sign of the how difficult trade talks may become, he added: “This ambition will also apply to social welfare, tax, environmental and consumer protection standards to which our citizens are rightly attached.”

Because we're taking ourselves out of our major trading agreement and won't get back those terms.

You can't simply replace that trading partnership with other markets across the world because the key is proximity - and in any case there's zero indication we could get a better deal with those overseas markets than the EU with its far superior weight in negotiations.

Added to which we're a services-based economy that relies on access to the single market to operate and operate profitably. Our financial services look in a risky position and even May stated that remaining in the single market was an imperative for that sector. If we want to keep the passporting then we'll have to give up something else but hey let's just add that to the 1.7 trillion debt and pretend everything is fine.

If you can show me your workings why we'll be the same or better off after we've paid the cost of restructuring our trade then be my guest.

But you have no actual facts that they will be worse , we ain't left yet so how the he ll can you have facts , however I have some facts , before we went into the eec then the eu , unemployment was lower , we used to trade in imports and exports successfully , classroom sizes were smaller , it was a lot easier to get a doctors appointment the same day , hospital waiting lists were shorter , manufacturing was higher , the social housing waiting list was a lot smaller ,another fact is these points were getting worse and worse year by year whilst in the eu , oh another fact , the banking collapse and the awful recession of a few years ago were while we were in the eu , why the hell would anyone with any sense vote to stay in it?
