Does he though? He has a good CV but he did a terrible job here. If any of the managers suggested comes in and does better then your point will be falsified. It's probably best to wait and see how any new manager actually performs here before making proclamations about how much better Paul Cook is. CVs don't always equate to how managers go on to perform in a particular role. |  |

At the moment we are being linked to out of work managers who may have applied and the logical targets like Manning, Lowe (pre-Preston), Rowe etc and ambitious ones like Lampard and Terry.
We are not going to be linked to any of the number of decent managers currently in jobs here and abroad because of the way Ashton operates.
How many of the 19 signings were known until they were imminent. Not many.
I really took to Cook. But ultimately he’s failed to get a tune out of what should be the cream of this division, over half a season, having effectively been able to bring in his own entire squad. Whatever reason for it not working, Cook has been given a leg up most managers can only dream of and still failed dismally. [Post edited 10 Dec 2021 18:16]

Indeed. I also think after 9 months it's not asking too much to see some signs of improvement. The last few performances under him were as bad as the drab performances at the tail end of last season. We're midtable in League 1, it's not like he was doing a mediocre job and got the flick too soon, he was failing. | |

I just think if we're talking career achievements then Lambert's promotion from the Championship and survival seasons in the Premier League trump Cook's lower league promotions.
At some point he lost it and those past achievements were irrelevant, which is my point really. | |

If there was a candidate with an identical record to Cook before he joined Ipswich, yes they would be the best candidate. But it didn't work here for Cook.
So all this tells me is that apart from the obvious no-nos, i really don't mind who gets the job, and just pray they can succeed where so many others have failed. |  |

Even as someone who was willing to dismiss last season's results and performances, and to give him a clean slate, it was clear it wasn't working bar a few freak results.
I liked him as a bloke and wish him well, but he can't really have any excuses with being dismissed. The coaching team were probably as much of an issue as anything else. Whatever the case may be, he failed. That much is clear. Why some persist with this love-in is beyond me. | |
