Just interested 10:09 - Sep 1 with 2491 views | Barneycurley | We needed a CB but according to some we didn't really need one as Chambers 'could be back next game' and webster and Smith 'maybe 4/5 weeks away' So Why did we sign a young full back?? Surely when the 2 scenarios pan out the least we will need is another fullback, well considering when we let 'one of our own' go out on loan

Apparently the physio team on here that post seem to disagree

I believe some have said that, just today

Who and where? I've seen people say it's not a disaster that we didn't sign one but that's not the same thing as saying we didn't need one.

Me neither. There is a kind of elephant in the room here which is that we've never properly replaced Berra. We've got a load of FBs that can play CB now - Spence, Iorfa,Knudsen and now Connolly - but no nailed-on CB replacement. This kind of thing has happened before in midfield - too many similar players - and we seem to have gone down the same road.
Just interested on 10:17 - Sep 1 with 2420 views | Stenvict | I think it's more like this: If you've been Mick Out and like to moan about most things ITFC at the moment, it's been a very disappointing Deadline Day, and the only way is down. If you've been a bit more positive, and can see the bigger picture, things aren't too bad at the moment.

Have heard it mentioned in EADT that Chambers may only miss a couple of more games now the Derby County game has been postponed, but this is far from certain at this stage I would have thought, in the meantime we perhaps have enough permutations to make up a makeshift back 4 , particularly if Iorfa moves into central defence alongside spence and we play knudesen and Connolly at FB.

I'd disagree. If we are playing a back four then we clearly have 3 CB's in Webster, Chambers and Smith. I'd go further and say that with the evidence being shown that we are trying to play it out from the back more, Webster is Berras natural replacement.

Just interested on 10:28 - Sep 1 with 2371 views | itfcjoe | Same as last year, where despite Mick being desperate to get a striker over the line and failing, everyone was happy with the squad when Mick said he was happy with it and that we didn't need a striker. We had GOldson in the building, the deal was as good as done, Mick clearly wanted him - but now some will claim we don't need that extra CB the manager clearly wanted

To be honest I was in the camp of not feeling we needed to replace Berra, I thought Webster, Chambers and Smith would be okay with Knudsen, Spence and Iorfa all able to fill in. I never envisaged all three senior CBs being injured at the same time so with hindsight a fourth option would have been useful and with the injuries we could have done with getting one in yesterday.

Exactly that. No idea where this idea that he might play at QPR has come from but right from word go I've been told he's out for longer than the 4 weeks suggested. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

For me, it's a bit different to last season, in that this is a case of temporary filling in until injuries return, rather than a permanent loss. We didn't get the CB that the Manager - and most of the fans - thought we needed. But the loan signing should help us to get through in the interim. Town are at least no worse off than they were a week ago. After all, the major weakness identified in most reports of the Fulham game was Iorfa's performance (not helped by Waghorn ahead of him). If Connelly addresses that, it will improve the defence. I'm not happy, but I'm a lot happier than I would have been if we'd lost Bialkowski yesterday and were now relying on just Gerken and Crowe.

CB Injuries - to clarify by itfcjoe 1 Sep 2017 10:52Doesn't sound like anyone will be back soon - from Saturday's programme:
Chambers - Luke injured his right ankle against Millwall. He landed heavily in the first half and rolled his ankle. Unfortunately MRI scans revealed a partial tear to two ligaments and a small fracture. He will be assessed next week with a specialist when his swelling has settled suitably. In the meantime he will have hyperbaric oxygen therapy. We .ill have a return date after that.
Smith - Tommy injured his right hamstring in training before the Barnsley match. He sustained a grade 3 injury to his lateral hamstring. He will be six to eight weeks in rehabilitation
Webster - Adam turned his ankle at Luton. I'm glad to say his ankle reconstuction was intact, he had however overstretched the ligament. He will require some glucose injections in London to ensure stability in the future. Anticipate recovery to be around 6 weeks.
So any talk of Chambo being fit for QPR, or even the game after seems very wide of the mark - don't think it is unlikely that all 3 miss the whole of September (5 more games)

Just interested on 10:56 - Sep 1 with 2252 views | Superfrans | It could be as simple as the fact that we need a certain number of players to fulfill all our fixtures at different levels. We're now dipping deeper into our reserves, putting FBs into the first team at CB. Without these injuries, Iorfa, Spence, Knudsen or Kenlock would be playing for the U23s. We could promote youth players, but that would take these out of the academy sides. The alternative is that we force players to play too many games, risking further injuries.
