Keane Speculation Continues
Keane Speculation Continues
Tuesday, 30th Mar 2010 09:06

Speculation regarding Roy Keane’s future continues in this morning’s papers despite Simon Clegg’s backing of the Blues boss yesterday.

One report claims the squad find training under Keane’s assistant Tony Loughlan “tedious” and were less than impressed with the 90-minute lock-in after the defeat at Watford a fortnight ago.

In the same report, an unnamed former director is said to have slammed the Irishman’s running of Town: “Roy Keane is ruining the club. The mess he left at Sunderland has only just been cleared up.”

Elsewhere, it’s been revealed that former chairman and current board member David Sheepshanks is earning £80,000 a year to run the National Football Centre, which is set to be built near Burton, and FA Learning.

No other member of the FA committee is salaried but a spokesman defended the arrangement: “There has been no impropriety. The agreement was approved by the FA's remuneration committee and the Professional Game Board.”

Sheepshanks was appointed chairman of the National Football Centre project in January.

Meanwhile, Connor Wickham was left out of the England U17s side which beat Malta 5-0 in their second European Championships elite qualifying group game last night. The Town frontman netted in Saturday's 4-0 victory against Sweden.

England complete their fixtures with a match against Slovakia at Northampton on Thursday needing a point to qualify for the finals.

jamesy - It is possible to want the best for the club by wanting Keano to go, I think this is the best long term solution.

Stop with the inane simplification of the whole issue.

Have you been to a match?

The speculation from the press will stop only when and if the results and performances improve, however I believe sacking Roy Keane would be a mistake - a successful club needs stability not swapping the manager every season - look at Everton. He has been given 2yrs to do the job and should be allowed the time do it.

Not exactly dear boy!
I believe the squad we have is good enough to challenge for promotion without question, the point I & other fans are making is, is Keane the man to be in charge of these players & get out of them the 100% ability they have?
I believe another manager coming in would change very little of the squad for reasons given above.
I have always been behind the manager, whoever it is, but even my patience is starting to wear thin!
Now, I've just 'proof-read' the above, just hope I haven't missed anything!!!!!

Must admit bennyblue's not helping the cause by giving the Keane apologists something to distract from his points. Which are valid.

I'm sick of the RK fans saying those who want him out aren't Town fans, or that they are better fans than us. It's pathetic. Firstly, we shouldn't be arguing with each other in this pathetic way, we should just be commenting on the stories and explaining our position.

Secondly, as benny says, those of us who think RK isn't capable are surely just as much fans as those who think he is. We both want what is best for the club we just disagree on how to get it.

For me RK's transfer dealings have been so dismal (Edwards, Martin, Healy) and predictable (another Sunderland player Roy? Really? What a fine scouting network you have!) that I doubt he is capable of building a decent squad here without spending another £20m and going through a lot of failures first.

Remember, we need to replace Murphy (possibly with Murphy himself, but even RK has amditted that could be hard) and Colback and still improve what we have (becuase we're not good enough at the moment). So that means we need at least 4 players in the summer (and judging by RK's dealings so far, he'll get in about 8)

I can almost forgive all the tactical and man management errors if I thought he could build a decent team. But I don't.

I would have thought that Marcus Evans is acutely aware of the fact that 'overnight' successes are rare. In the grand scheme of things RK isn't even halfway in to his contract.
Yes football is a results business but surely the time to review his position as manager would be at the end of the season at the earliest. The press are always going to speculate about the next managerial guillotine, I think most people with a modicum of intelligence are aware of that.
Various clubs with a 'sack the manager' culture are in a far more precarious position than ITFC. Constant rebuilding and looking for the elusive magic formula is not the way to go IMHO.

Lazy journos, no wonder they give the star and EADT away free at match days!

As for Keane, anyone who knows anything about football knows that when bulding a team you should build from the back. Keane know has the best CB pairing we have had for years (albeit by fluke from placing Delaney at CB) and know has the oppurtunity to build on that and ensure we have a team that can not only defend but can score goals. If he can get that right we'll be looking at a very promising season for 2010 / 11, if he can't he will be sacked or walk by christmas. It's as simple as that, I can't understand all the negative 'floundering' by the anti keane boo boys!

1RWR I agree that most of squad ARE good enough, BUT R K isnt/cant get full potential out of them , they dont gel because they either dont play games week in week out or they are played out of position .R K getting players in is one thing getting the performances from players is another matter .I think that is where R K fails, he has made some bad signings too [i know most managers can do that ] overall i just dont think RK is the right man,i said it from outset, and he has done nothing to make me feel any different .

LOOK! For god's sake......Keane has been given two seasons, Let him have two seasons and then decide...We don't want to turn into QPR by sacking a manager every year or so.

Some of you so called Ipswich fans make me sick! What god given right do you think we have to be in the top six this season??
It takes time people...TIME!!! to build a decent team on and off the pitch!
So what is some on Keane's sigining have been poor so far!!
Even the great man Fergie makes poor signings at times as do most managers...
Keane is building something special here, just give him time and wait and see.
Ans as for all you fools wanting curbs?? get real!! is this the same bloke who almost crippled West ham by buying poor players and paying them vast ammounts?? Is this the same bloke who took EIGHT seasons before he built Charlton into a promotion team??
And you lot mad? you want Keane sacked and yet you want Curbs. Bloody hell you wont even give the current manager two seasons so what chance has Curbs got or any other manager that comes in.
If you want Champagne football every single week go and support man utd!!!
All we seem to have as fans now are people who jump on the managers back every game we only manage a draw or loose!
We are Ipswich town not Real madrid...
Get behind the team and manager and get off his back!!

Sounds very near to a players work to rule, aka 'lost the dressing room' style story. This usually heralds 'sacking immenant' - I hope its all rubbish and nice Mr Keane stays.

Put up or shut up!

It's just like Wesminister, if you haven't got the bottle to put your name against quotes to the press, then keep them to yourself.

Any search on the internet will find lots of ex and current Town players supporting Keane, I cannot find one who has the b@lls to say anything different in public.

As for briefings against Keane "coming from close to the FA" as mentioned by an EADT journalist - well if it is Sheepshanks he should be kicked out of ITFC as without Evans backing he wouldn't even have a seat at the big table.

Pauliejaz, when you are constantly being told to go and support another team, because you have another view ,it gets a bit annoying, i dont tell anyone to go support another team ,or that they are not supporters for holding different views, so i'll stand by that comment and ignore yours if thats ok with you .

New Clegg sensation from our source close to the board: "The club is fully backing RK and no deal has been done with Celtic or any other party. The attendance of A Curbishley at recent matches is purely coincidental and we have no knowledge of this gentleman or any other football managers who may have been linked with this club. The club owner is too busy to speak to the manager or the chief Executive on a regular basis but is taking an active interest in the club from his base in the Bahamas and through his authorised representatives."

Never have I felt so disenchanted with Town fans. People have their own opinions and then a war breaks out, bet those budgies up the 140 are having a right laugh at us at the moment. Talk about being a traditional family good footballing club? the fans are at eachothers throats day in day out, it's a joke. People on here have visions of grandeur, we are not a top premiership side and probably never will be, but by sticking together through thick and thin makes the club tick and always has done, I'm afraid looking forward doesn't instill much faith anymore. Terrible times, brought on by "us" the fans.

I love the way hype313 comes in as the parent telling of the children. Come on everyone, we all have an opinion (albeit some more stupid than others) but we all support town so can't we all be friends?

maybe i am blinkered in the way i think, but keane was given a 2 year contract which at the time i throught was a bit short. He's sured up the defence and made us hard to beat, now we need to sort out the attacking side, i wouldn't mind curds as manager before we went for keane, and still wouldn't mind him now(has a lot more experince), that was the one think that did worry me a bout keane is he dosen't have much experince he still learning, but i still think getting rid of a manager after a season would be bad for the club, i will stick behid keane until he isn't our manager any more. We are all devided on here but the bottom line is one man has the power to sack or stick with keane, all we can do is support the team get us safe, then worry about the manager after ITFC FOR EVER

nobrain added 11:47 - Mar 30
Seems a bit odd to me that some people speak of the club and the manager as two separate things - I guess that must be what they are hoping for.

I've always regarded the manager as an integral element of the club.

Or is that true only when things are going well?
