Keane Speculation Continues
Keane Speculation Continues
Tuesday, 30th Mar 2010 09:06

Speculation regarding Roy Keane’s future continues in this morning’s papers despite Simon Clegg’s backing of the Blues boss yesterday.

One report claims the squad find training under Keane’s assistant Tony Loughlan “tedious” and were less than impressed with the 90-minute lock-in after the defeat at Watford a fortnight ago.

In the same report, an unnamed former director is said to have slammed the Irishman’s running of Town: “Roy Keane is ruining the club. The mess he left at Sunderland has only just been cleared up.”

Elsewhere, it’s been revealed that former chairman and current board member David Sheepshanks is earning £80,000 a year to run the National Football Centre, which is set to be built near Burton, and FA Learning.

No other member of the FA committee is salaried but a spokesman defended the arrangement: “There has been no impropriety. The agreement was approved by the FA's remuneration committee and the Professional Game Board.”

Sheepshanks was appointed chairman of the National Football Centre project in January.

Meanwhile, Connor Wickham was left out of the England U17s side which beat Malta 5-0 in their second European Championships elite qualifying group game last night. The Town frontman netted in Saturday's 4-0 victory against Sweden.

England complete their fixtures with a match against Slovakia at Northampton on Thursday needing a point to qualify for the finals.

There any many anti Keane on here but at Swansea on Saturday our fans were shouting his name for almost an hour now that takes some doing particularly for a man who seems to be despised by many on here. I admit I have wavered several times this season as to whether he is up to the job but the simple fact is the Championship takes no prisoners these days and ITFC have no devine right to win any match. It is hard work every match to gain 3 points and yes there have been games when we have been abysmal but generally I have seen 100% effort from the players who on the evidence of Saturday still back the Manager to the hilt. I would take 40 points from the first 25 games of next season as has been achieved in the last 25 games and then who knows what could happen. Sometimes its a case of better the devil you know and I personally would stick with that we have but Roy please sort out your sqaud before the end of July.

Makem, how you feel about Sunderland is how i feel about Ipswich.
Your team too went on a long run,was it 14 games, that you didnt win, you still support your club.
How do you feel about Bruce (a Geordie) running your club?
Do you want him out?
Or are you prepared to give him time?
Or are you more interested in that swimming team? (cant say i blame you!)

Losing to Plymouth was our first loss at home to anyone in sixth months, but Plymouth are faeces I hear you cry, but they have beaten Cardiff and Middlesborough away already, we draw too many games that can be fixed. I don't know who you think is doing a great job in this league? Everyone has had there ups and downs Forest lost six away games on the trot if we had done that some of you would be burning effigies in the car park. We are not where any of us want to be ,the reason for it is everyone in the league wants to be at the top, and there isn't a great deal of difference between any of the teams. The only definite is nobody in the league will win all their remaining fixtures. We have had some real freak results like Sheff Utd away and Doncaster away, where we should have won because we were better, but we were unlucky. I didn't want Keane at he begining , I didn't want Magilton and I didn't want Royle, I think we should have stuck to Burley, but unfortuantely the quick fix instant result moaning minnies seem to rule the world. Restart supporting the club. I can't believe any of you enjoy being so negative all the time. We should stick by Keane because it is the right thing to do. I think most clubs in the Uk would be pleased not to have lost a home game in six months. Lets try and see the positive the only person who should really be upset about the money being"wasted" is Marcus Evans and if he is satisfied who are we to complain. There are plenty of teams to support if you just want to see your team win every week. I've heard Barcelona are good.

Oh yeah, you support your club through thick or thin. I have seen Sunderland in the third division which even though we walked it, it was not nice. But it is in your blood and that can't change. I do like Steve Bruce though. Wasn't sure because of his Geordie scum roots but (and this sounds ironic given this whole thread) you have to give him the benefit of the doubt and I think he will do a good job for us and I think that is the concensus of the vast majority of Sunderland fans. He will be given time and he has been unlucky with injuries this year otherwise I think we could have done even better. Most fans can see that and that is why we have all been patient.

As for the swimming team, I don't care who is the manager LOL Win or lose !!!!

StowTractorBoy - I'm not so sure that there are that many anti-Keane (posters) on here. How many do you think - 20? 30? 50? 100?

Not really that many compared to the number of fans who turn up regularly at PR - although I accept that some of them may be 'anti keane'.

naa added 14:28 - Mar 30
nobrain: well obviously! You seriously think that every single one of the people who doubt Keane's ability post regularly on here? Hardly.

I'm sure a huge number who go regularly are unsure of him too. But because they support the club they don't boo him.

Pro Keane or Anti Keane they arent going to sack him, he's signed a 2 year deal and it will only be at the end of that time they'll consider his position (depending where the club are) unfortunately some people on here still believe its the 1980's and were a super side, we're not, we're a mid table championship side and have been for the last 4 seasons

If we start next season with the form we have shown since the Newcastle home defeat, we'll be play-off challengers next season.

naa, Marshallsmullet, Mackemyank - clearly a pointless waste of time putting forward arguments or facts in a reasonable manner, the head-burrowing fanatics are hell-bent on their course of totally blind and unreasoning faith in their God, chanting on the way that we with our views are either "glory-hunters", or not ITFC supporters at all. They actually seem to want 3rd-tier footie as long as it's RK that leads them there.

My favourite quote is a mate of mine who says 'he should do the honourable thing and walk'.

Why? if he was daft enough to do that I wouldn't think he is management material. The Sunderland thing was totally different, he left becasue they would not back him financially not becasue a few fans were getting twitchy.

If the Club is going to sack him, he should sit tight and let them pay him £1m for walking his dog for a year.

tom-the-blue , you're a one to talk. Exception has a "c" in it, and dismantling is spelt as, er, dismantling. Your grammatical errors are a disgrace to your own haughty standards.

TractorRoyNo1 - couldn't agree more....
This is to ALL the boo boys and girls at Portman road who want him out might as well start getting behind the team for the remainder of the season because he ain't going anywhere for a long time, so you might as well support him AND your team as best you can as lets face it, thats why we buy the season ticket in the first place to support our much loved tractor boys. the boos are obviously not bothering RK only the players on the pitch so this goes out to all of the miserable people out there, shut up and encourage or stay at home and cut the grass on a saturday!!!
That reminds me,
How did Sir Alex get on when he first started out at a little old club called Man utd?
Did he go on an amazing run of wins straight away????? Point made i think....
......COYB.....

Sir Alex was making clear improvements & progress upwards.

Nuff said.

Leave you to bask in the joy of watching replays of our home game v. Plymouth.

I think we should sack Keane and get in Bryan Gunn.

Ryorry - your obviously anti Kean and your entitled to your opinion,
you also sound like a really true Blues fan with all the encouragement you keep writing on these boards, (tongue in check)
however, if it's improvement your after, yes Sir Alex was making clear Improvements and progress upwards,
Remind me,
where were we after 14 games? when everybody was saying "where going down, where rubbish"
Now look at us, ok Plymouth was terrible but remember there in a dog fight to stay up as well so they were obviously going to be a tough nut to crack and we weren't without chances in that game, just two defensive errors which cost us two goals apart from that i couldn't see them scoring.
if you had said that we would have this many points at this time of the season then, then i would have snapped your hand off, so Keano has made improvements and an upwards progression.
Roll on next season,

Nuff Said..

Stupid comment naaridge1coly7,
For one we haven't been bottom of the league for ????? can't remember!
He has strengthened his side no end, ok were not going to win the leauge but then take away the first 14 games and we'd be sitting 5th in the league,

To be Honest there are so many Town supporters on here that like to slag of there own team and manager rather than get behind them,

yes we've had a poor season FACT

No we haven't had a out and out goal scorer FACT

Yes we haven't played the lovely flowing football we've come to love over the years but we are where we are so chin up people and get over it, show your support to your team if not your manager,

And for God sake, stop going on about what Norwich are doing and how we beat them in 1998,

where Ipswich fans and should be singing about our own team.....

i really don't care what NC are doing, or CU. if you are then go watch them and sing in there stands...

ok rant over......COYB

comeon: "Yes we haven't played the lovely flowing football we've come to love over the years but we are where we are so chin up people and get over it, show your support to your team if not your manager,"

That's exactly what I've been doing - and pretty much everyone else here too. The support at the games has, on the whole, been good (certainly very little booing). All the moaners on here go to those games too, so I guess that maybe, shock horror, they actually support their team at the games but come on here - a fan's forum - to comment on where they think the club is going and what should change, if anything.

There's a thought.
