Keane Speculation Continues
Keane Speculation Continues
Tuesday, 30th Mar 2010 09:06

Speculation regarding Roy Keane’s future continues in this morning’s papers despite Simon Clegg’s backing of the Blues boss yesterday.

One report claims the squad find training under Keane’s assistant Tony Loughlan “tedious” and were less than impressed with the 90-minute lock-in after the defeat at Watford a fortnight ago.

In the same report, an unnamed former director is said to have slammed the Irishman’s running of Town: “Roy Keane is ruining the club. The mess he left at Sunderland has only just been cleared up.”

Elsewhere, it’s been revealed that former chairman and current board member David Sheepshanks is earning £80,000 a year to run the National Football Centre, which is set to be built near Burton, and FA Learning.

No other member of the FA committee is salaried but a spokesman defended the arrangement: “There has been no impropriety. The agreement was approved by the FA's remuneration committee and the Professional Game Board.”

Sheepshanks was appointed chairman of the National Football Centre project in January.

Meanwhile, Connor Wickham was left out of the England U17s side which beat Malta 5-0 in their second European Championships elite qualifying group game last night. The Town frontman netted in Saturday's 4-0 victory against Sweden.

England complete their fixtures with a match against Slovakia at Northampton on Thursday needing a point to qualify for the finals.

Damn newspapers trying to force Keano out. These rumours are getting tired why dont they go pester the canaries with speculation that Lamberts going to take the Celtic job!

Just my view but surely even if we are 'building for the future', most of the building blocks should have been in place this year and we should be seeing good results/football.

We are getting a mix of good results and dire results at the moment, so given the summer transfer window, perhaps he can come good.

However, this is a results business and the results are plainly not good enough over this season.

Other clubs have sacked managers a lot quicker and for a lot less bad results/performances than ours.

I personally want to see a new manager in place within the next two weeks so they have time to see the current squad properly before the next season - but if we do stick with Keane, ME should show some balls and make a statement himself.

For all you anti Keanites as you are in the minority at this club I suggest that it is you who bugger off. Theres a team North of us who are about to go on a bus tour of their City because they won a tin cup....I suggest you go support them and add to the millions of their supporters.....we won't mis you.

As for the newspaper talk as I have always said british newspapers are the worst in the world and aren't fit enough the wipe your a*** with.....

wicked: please lay off with the pitiful "you're not town fans" rubbish. It's boring, and completely incorrect.

Agree about newspapers though. Anything for a story.

Though Clegg has hardly helped with his vote of confidence essentially guaranteeing RK the Reading game, but not willing to commit any further.

Thanks Ryorry. Yeah, that Ipswich side back in 1980 were great. I remember asking my Dad why Sunderland weren't that good !!! I think we got beat that day 2-0 and lost 4-0 at Portman Road?? And of course the true great Bobby Robson was in charge of Ipswich back then (shame he managed the Mags though).

Anyway, I would love to see Ipswich in the Premier League. When I see the likes of Hull up in the top flight (no disrespect) and I see a grand club like Ipswich floundering where Hull should be aiming for, it is just a shame.

Will Keane be the man to do it? Only time will tell. Didn't Keane once say something like "any half decent manager should be able to get promoted from the Championship" That statement really sums up his performance this season doesn't it?

What I find interesting is that the excuse given for not getting a new manager in is that they will need to rebuild all over again. Unless they can get the current crop of players to perform better then RK currently isnt.

But has RK himself not said that it is not who you are getting in but whom you are getting rid off. Sounds like RK wantas to rebuild all over again next year.

So what is the difference.

Maybe we are divided in our ambitions for ITFC and that's why we are split on Keane? I am one of the ones who really wants us back in the top flight, for who every season in the Championship is another year of pain and frustration. I don't think we have a god given right to Prem football but I was brought up with year after year of just that, and I want it back! I completely respect those who see it as a nice-to-have and I dont call that a lack of ambition, but i can't help wanting more.

And Keane has been brought in to do that job, in double quick time. ME has set that agenda, and sees Keane as the man for the job. He did it at Sunderland, and I wonder how many Sunderland fans REALLY begrudge the 'mess' he left the club in, after all they are still there and the mess has been tidied up - key thing is they are where they want to be.
I for one think its worth sticking with Roy because I believe he can do it again - yes he makes mistakes, yes his ways are controversial and he rattles cages and speaks his mind, but he's been set a 2 year target after years of repeated failure, and that requires a radical shake up.

Well, I am in Ohio but I am British (the wife is American) and I have been here 9 years now. I support my hometown club which is Sunderland and that will never change no matter where I am in the world. Although there is a local womens synchronized swimming team in Ohio that I would have no trouble supporting alongside Sunderland !!!!! LOL
