Keane Speculation Continues
Keane Speculation Continues
Tuesday, 30th Mar 2010 09:06

Speculation regarding Roy Keane’s future continues in this morning’s papers despite Simon Clegg’s backing of the Blues boss yesterday.

One report claims the squad find training under Keane’s assistant Tony Loughlan “tedious” and were less than impressed with the 90-minute lock-in after the defeat at Watford a fortnight ago.

In the same report, an unnamed former director is said to have slammed the Irishman’s running of Town: “Roy Keane is ruining the club. The mess he left at Sunderland has only just been cleared up.”

Elsewhere, it’s been revealed that former chairman and current board member David Sheepshanks is earning £80,000 a year to run the National Football Centre, which is set to be built near Burton, and FA Learning.

No other member of the FA committee is salaried but a spokesman defended the arrangement: “There has been no impropriety. The agreement was approved by the FA's remuneration committee and the Professional Game Board.”

Sheepshanks was appointed chairman of the National Football Centre project in January.

Meanwhile, Connor Wickham was left out of the England U17s side which beat Malta 5-0 in their second European Championships elite qualifying group game last night. The Town frontman netted in Saturday's 4-0 victory against Sweden.

England complete their fixtures with a match against Slovakia at Northampton on Thursday needing a point to qualify for the finals.

Ryorry

your right "sunshine" you have been a supporter longer than me as i was only born in 1980 so good for you, you got to see the likes of the mighty blues winning the cup and then shinning in europe. Something i hope i will get to see again.

i apologies if i hit a nerve with my post but i thought that town were trying to encourage new supporters and also trying to keep the old ones, but when you go to a game/games week in week out and all you hear is :

"When i was 20 we were unstopable, in 1978 we had the best team in england"
or
"Todays team isn't a patch on the side back when good old jim was the manager or when burley was the gaffa"

yes they were good managers, BACK THEN, i'm not blinkered about roy kean but i do think given time, like every other manager has had at town he can and will be a top bloke for us and take us back to the promised land of the premier league.

but we are in the here and now, we don't have beattie at the back or osbourn scoring the winner at wembly, we also don't have super Matty holland dominating the midfield or Marcus stewart smashing in 20 odd goals a season,
i have heard the booing at some games so i guess i was wrong for saying at all the games so sorry for that as well but stop living in the past......

so my point is, lets just deal with what we've got and just win the rest of the games or stay unbeaten.....

I am neither a Keane fan or hater i just want the best for our club! I just feel we are stuck in no man's land yes he has sured up our defence, but where is our slick passing and abilty to open teams up the Ipswich way? Under Burley and Royle we went to home games thinking we could score 3,4,5 goals. Not this side to many round holes in square pegs for me. Well that said let get behind the team on Saturday and bring 3 points home!

I'd love Keane to come good, but could someone list the reasons why anyone should be optimistic that he will? He's dismantled the club and now admitted he's "still learning", had a poor record in the transfer market, brought in an unnecessary amount of negative press through his inability to resist getting a soundbite on TV, removed the last ounce of entertaining football from the team, yet managed only to make results worse!

Sure he MIGHT come good, but just how bad does it have to get before some fans start thinking "hmmm, just maybe this guy doesn't actually know what he's doing"...

For Keane to get my support in staying, I'd like to see some indication of his plan, some way to measure the progress he's made thus far, and a timescale to meet his objectives - you know, the sort of things that Managers of any other department / business are asked for on a regular basis.

....regardless....journo's are lazy, Keane is tactically inept, ME has no club profile, Clegg is a face, our players have shown them to be a little dispassionate, we have hovered in the depths of the division this season, green shoots of improvement are limited,Keane has a two year contract...all facts....speculation....tickets sales for next season will be down if Keane is in charge, Keane will spend heavily in the summer, the summer will leave the team in no better state....yah, yah, yah....no one has a crystal ball...I will pay my money and take the entertainment served...if it is sh**e then I won't keep spending my money...my choice....

Speculation won't end until either ME says that Keane is here next season or results improve.......hmmm lets not hold our breath's. Meanwhile lets all slag each other off and play who is the greatest Town fan.

Anyway,im surprised the team were annoyed with having detention after the Watford game, more to the point why not after P'boro as well. I would have made them walk home ....with the manager as well or invite them to have an intimate experience with the forehead of Magilton!

Bruce Rioch was a clown also, it would appear that Keano has more knockers than Katy Price ! But i think you should keep him manager for rest of season at least.
