Keane Speculation Continues
Keane Speculation Continues
Tuesday, 30th Mar 2010 09:06

Speculation regarding Roy Keane’s future continues in this morning’s papers despite Simon Clegg’s backing of the Blues boss yesterday.

One report claims the squad find training under Keane’s assistant Tony Loughlan “tedious” and were less than impressed with the 90-minute lock-in after the defeat at Watford a fortnight ago.

In the same report, an unnamed former director is said to have slammed the Irishman’s running of Town: “Roy Keane is ruining the club. The mess he left at Sunderland has only just been cleared up.”

Elsewhere, it’s been revealed that former chairman and current board member David Sheepshanks is earning £80,000 a year to run the National Football Centre, which is set to be built near Burton, and FA Learning.

No other member of the FA committee is salaried but a spokesman defended the arrangement: “There has been no impropriety. The agreement was approved by the FA's remuneration committee and the Professional Game Board.”

Sheepshanks was appointed chairman of the National Football Centre project in January.

Meanwhile, Connor Wickham was left out of the England U17s side which beat Malta 5-0 in their second European Championships elite qualifying group game last night. The Town frontman netted in Saturday's 4-0 victory against Sweden.

England complete their fixtures with a match against Slovakia at Northampton on Thursday needing a point to qualify for the finals.

comeon thegoodtimes:

1. "just two defensive errors". Thought defence is supposed to be our strong point these days isn't it?

2. Been a TOWN supporter since probably before you were born (1974) thru thick and thin, Lyall and all, NEVER booed a single Town player or manager EVER - which is I suspect more than can be said for many Keane disciples.

3. I was behind Keane until home game to Plymouth.

So don't make assumptions about me or others sunshine, just because we hold legitimate views that aren't your own.

thanks. It was so good you posted it twice!

Steed: as for plymouth comments. You're not wrong, obviously if we had taken our chances (and a couple of them were good ones) we'd have got a draw at least. However, we were rubbish and I'd argue didn't really deserve to win that game anyway.

Getting a draw is all well and good, but I'd like to see some decent football too on occasion.

'ello fans - Are custard pies made from real custard or shaving cream? Paul Mariner was really naughty to me and I am going to get him. Incidentally, I am thinking of putting Colback in goal this week. I have a pair of gloves that are 10 times to big that he can wear in goal. Colbeck will do as he is ginger and doesn't need a wig. Thanks for your support fans - it makes my job easier love Roy xxx

Well DirtyD I guess we would say that, because clearly that's what you are trying to do, otherwise you wouldn't go on and on and on and on and on and ON about it.
Yes I'm sure you are a good fan and are entitled to your opinion, but repectfully, we have heard it, so geeusabrek, man!

Keano walks into a library and asks the lady for a pound of pork sausages. The lady says "This is a library Mr Keane". Roy then turns to the lady and whispers to her "a pound of pork sausages please"

Results were better under JM and we finished alot higher in the table with him as well. He didn't have us in the relegation zone and fighting a battle to keep safe yet alot with banners wanted him out - yeah good one, i don't think!!!!!! People r only supporting RK for the name and where he comes from. Alot of people i no that r home an away supports r not renewing as they r fed up with the hoof an hope style of football being played.

All the previous directors were Ipswich Fans and one or two put in a considerable amount. When Mr £80000 pa Sheepshanks who got us into financial mess and sweet talked us shareholders into selling 87 1/2 % of our equity in the club, they were cast aside. Now we have a tax exile owner who only is supposed to spend 60 days pa in UK and a chief executive who lives in Surrey.Evans is a pure and simple capitalist seeking to make money out of the club whos debt is still on balance sheet;so if the organ grinder decides that a change of Manager will further his financial aims then he will act and the first thing we will know about it is when he instructs his monkey to tell us.
I wonder whether he now wishes he had bought Southampton after all as this club
has steadily declined since we last were in top flight, and this Manager has made matters worse.

Well, this season is a write off no matter who the manager is. Whoever is in charge come August will have a serious amount of work to do - no doubt about that. In the meantime, let's hope for a win in the next game and hope for no more drama.

To backup my point about the improved defensive record being because the whole team plays more defensively than before, a couple of examples are the regular use of one up front (including at home to Barnsley when we went 1-0 up) and the fact that all 11 players get back into the penalty box to defend corners. I also think we have a lot of "battling" players in the team who are usually preferred to the more creative options (okay, our attacking options are limited but only because the right players were not brought in).

Regarding the point about the squad being strenthened since Keane joined, I agree that Delaney and Leadbitter are welcome additions but I cannot say we have really improved based on our performance and lower league position. In 2010 Ipswich players (not loanees) have scored the following league goals for us: 16th Jan Counago, 26th Jan Leadbitter(pen), 9th Feb Norris, 20th Feb Edwards, 13th Mar Wickham. That is 5 goals in 17 games!! Does that not ring alarm bells about the quality of our squad?

Bennyblue; When did you last go to a game, or more precisely, have you ever been to a game? Saying that we should get rid of all the fans that don't just whinge ALL the time and just want to get behind the team regardless of who the manager is just proves what a great 'fan' you really are (or should I say our, ha) also your grammar proves that you aren't exactly the sharpest knife in the box. As for These aren't the days, you were saying 'come on you Swans' before Saturdays game, so fans like you should just bugger off. Anyway, rant over, I'm not RK's biggest fan but changing managers now would be stupid, and it does say that this is SPECULATION so there's no proof that it is true.

'ello Mark. Stop pointing out those damning facts will you? Although my blind supporters won't notice it as I am a BIG NAME and the true facts go over their heads !!!!

This is really becoming tedious. Roy is our manager. He should be given the same time as Jim. The tabloids have no idea what ME is thinking and as for these so called 'sources' - simply daft.

Let's all get behind the team on Saturday - because love Roy or hate him, I am sure we can all agree that supporting the TEAM is paramount and this speculation is surely doing no good at all.

'allo fans. Tony, I think we might be losing some of the fans. Some of them are realizing that I am just a big name and in fact clueless. Need to do something spectacular against Reading to silence them. Run out and get me a Unicycle and a bicycle horn would you Tony dear.......

I don't really know what to mean about RK- I disliked him as a player. Unfair, nearly killed Alfie Haaland. On the other hand an excellent player.
He has got more money than any former manager, and the results so far are the worst since the early fifties. Like many in this forum I like to give managers time to build their team, and maybe he must get the chance to start a new season.
Living in Norway- I have only seen our boys 4 times this season. From this, and what I have read, the most worrying topic is that "The Ipswich" way of playing has vanished. Where are the passing team from Sir Bobby's, Burleys and even Royle's days gone ? I'm afraid RK is making us an average, primitive championship club and killing our soul.
Anyway - he has to get some more time. If we're not in top six comes Nov - bye,bye RK !

On what do you base the Keane out?? Look at my fans on here, they love me. I am a Big Name. I worked under Cloughie and Sir Alex. I bought Leadbitter. I have Tony Laughlin on board. I tell it like it is. I got Sunderland promoted and only spent 80 million pounds and escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth. I have guided Ipswich from bottom to almost mid table in 8 months. Have some faith itfcorry !!!!

It's been interesting reading this thread having just got back from work. I am another person who can't make their mind up about Keane. But I'm also "old school" Ipswich - we don't sack managers until they've been given a decent chance. John Duncan was given three years for goodness sake! So I intend to get fully behind the team and not moan. The one thing that did really worry me was when Keane said Ipswich had to stop being "nice"...If we take "nice" to mean playing attractive football and approaching the game in the right spirit, then I would prefer a different manager.
