Keane: Quiet Last Few Days of Transfer Window
Keane: Quiet Last Few Days of Transfer Window
Thursday, 26th Aug 2010 14:24

Town boss Roy Keane says he expects a very quiet final few days of the transfer window. The Blues manager is expecting no moves in or out before Tuesday’s deadline.

Keane said: “I think the next few days at the club will be very quiet. I wouldn’t expect any players coming in and I’d be very surprised, looking at my group of players and where we’re at, if anyone was to go out, unless anyone made a very good offer, which I suppose goes for every club.”

Despite this the Town manager says his squad is still short on numbers at present: “We need some more in, but it’s all well and good me, like every other manager, wishing we could do this and that, but it’s not possible at the moment.”

Keane says he will look to the loan market, although he says there can be pitfalls with short-term deals: “You’re in the hands of the Gods there, you’re waiting for clubs to get back to you and whether players want to come here. On some of the deals, like with the keeper we had last year, they can be called back, so that’s always a concern, but it’s never a bad option.”

The Blues have no new injuries ahead of Saturday’s game against Bristol City and none of the currently sidelined players are set to return.

Meanwhile chief executive Simon Clegg has paid tribute to fans after the Blues’ season ticket sales dropped by only 2,000 to 13,990 despite last year’s disappointments: “There could have been a much higher percentage turn against the club after we failed to deliver last season.

“We have to accept the season ticket figure we have and recognise in these chilling economic times that we did not give good value for money last season. It began badly and was clearly inconsistent thereafter.”

Disappointing! But for our good start and Wickham to return would be depressing!
Let's hope any of our midfield don't get injured!

Too much has been said in the past month or so for this not to disappoint most fans - however realistic it is economically. We'll trust Mr K now to get good loans in.

Slightly worried that we only have the three strikers, I was expecting at least another movement in this area having let Steady, Walters and Pablo go. Maybe something in the loan market. Clearly Evans is not willing to put any extra money in this season. Keane has done well so far, but with such a limited squad we may well struggle to break into the top six.

Still wondering where all the money has gone!! Surely Mccormack at half a mill was worth a go and why did we not go for keogh or push for Choppa now Cardiff have got two new strikers.
You never know the full story but it seem strange we did not push harder for a couple of players now we have started so well.

Well that absolutely great isn't it!!! We get told four maybe five additions now none!! We should have got Robert Koren and why not be in talks with Paul Scharner? Please Roy at least a couple more decent signings!!!

so much for ambition, ME is showing very little faith in Roy.

What a surprise statement this is, so unlike ITFC (sarcasm)
Still we can't complain on the start that has been made by the team so far this season.
I for one am pleasantly surprised with our results to date, lets hope we don't get any further injuries!
With players returning from injury and (fingers crossed) remaining fit for the most of the season we might be in with a shout this campaign?
Personally I'd rather Keano & Cleggy kept their mouths shut about transfer speculation, activity or inactivity!!

The lower ST sales is certainly not soley down to last seasons dire from - but more linked to the EIGHT YEARS of mediocre football in the second tier of football coupled with one of the highest ST prices outside the Premiership .....factors that can all Im afraid, be laid firmly at the door of Administration .

When Town went into Admin , it was said that it could take up to ten years to recover from the effects ...and it isnt far short of that is it !

So the money isn't there anymore its confirmed,,,,,,,, Keane's comments say it all... "we need some more in BUT....." but what? but they don't wanna give me anymore money. But there is no more money there.... but M. Evans is having a hard time of it and needs the cash, But Mr Clegg can't complete a transfer anyway so wat is the point in starting one because we all know he needs 3 weeks to complete and we only have a few days... but but but,,,,,,
Feel sorry for Keano, doing a great job this season its a shame the backing has gone at a crucial time,,,,,,

Prem Team will soon have to declare a 25 man squad, I'm sure a few players will become available and get snapped up quickly in the loan market. If they are outside the 25 it's a guarantee that they'll get no first team football unless they go on loan!

Wait and See!

Yes i'm sure we are waiting till the 25 man prem squads are announced, can someone explaine if a loanee to another club is not in 25 man squad, at his parent club why would he be called back. I know we lost the goalie last season but this year its differant, isn't it?

Must say I expected to see the cash from Walters sale being ploughed straight back in to the team - should have around £2m left after Scotland purchase. I know that club and transfer finances are complex, but ... expectations have been set and not met. Mr K will do well to succeed with the present squad so a couple of quality loans are needed.

I feel for Keane and us supporters. Clegg and Evans have let us down. Keane did his bit in reducing squad and wage bill. We do not have a strong enough squad at present to fight for promotion. If evans wants premiership football then he needs to be bolder, 2 or 3 quality signings really could make a big difference. The good start we have had should not fool anyone even though it has been enjoyable!

if Tottenham sign another striker/winger, maybe Gio would be available but i doubt it, but maybe Danny Rose, a winger i know but cracking left foot and very quick

We've let 15/16 players go and brought in 5? We've made more money from transfers than we've spent out.... 12million was promised for squad investment from day one from ME and now when we need to money for Keane to strengthen its not there.... So yes "we have not got any ££ atm" otherwise we wouldnt be relying on loans when the manager has made it clear he wants permanant bods in....
i agree the loan market could be a good one this year so fingers crossed....

Delaney, Edwards, Priskin, Leadbitter, D Healy, D Murphy, L Martin...........

And you wonder where the money went?

2.75m from fatman wont cover all that. Not even close

forget about promotion! we have become a selling club! 15 out and 5 in!

absoloutely disgraced by the board, keano will walk before october!

Very disappointing. But clearly not Roy's fault. For whatever reason ME has decided not to fund anymore permanent deals - despite asking Roy to significantly reduce the wage bill. Shame - but in the current economic climate not a huge surprise.

I'm not overly worried about the lack of strikers - especially if we're going to play one-up as we have been. the biggest worry is the reliance on Leadbitter, Norris and Hyam (Hyam especially as he's only 19 and very inexperienced). We can't afford injuries to any of those really, and ceertainly not to more than one of them.

All three look like they like getting booked too, so that could be a concern later in the season.

Right-back is also a serious worry. I personally don't think we have a single right-back let alone cover.

I can certainly understand why ME might be being tight this year though with Magilton and Keane both wasting millions on average, or worse, players over the last couple of seasons. Forcing a manager to think hard about who he gets in can only be a good thing.
