Keane: Quiet Last Few Days of Transfer Window
Keane: Quiet Last Few Days of Transfer Window
Thursday, 26th Aug 2010 14:24

Town boss Roy Keane says he expects a very quiet final few days of the transfer window. The Blues manager is expecting no moves in or out before Tuesday’s deadline.

Keane said: “I think the next few days at the club will be very quiet. I wouldn’t expect any players coming in and I’d be very surprised, looking at my group of players and where we’re at, if anyone was to go out, unless anyone made a very good offer, which I suppose goes for every club.”

Despite this the Town manager says his squad is still short on numbers at present: “We need some more in, but it’s all well and good me, like every other manager, wishing we could do this and that, but it’s not possible at the moment.”

Keane says he will look to the loan market, although he says there can be pitfalls with short-term deals: “You’re in the hands of the Gods there, you’re waiting for clubs to get back to you and whether players want to come here. On some of the deals, like with the keeper we had last year, they can be called back, so that’s always a concern, but it’s never a bad option.”

The Blues have no new injuries ahead of Saturday’s game against Bristol City and none of the currently sidelined players are set to return.

Meanwhile chief executive Simon Clegg has paid tribute to fans after the Blues’ season ticket sales dropped by only 2,000 to 13,990 despite last year’s disappointments: “There could have been a much higher percentage turn against the club after we failed to deliver last season.

“We have to accept the season ticket figure we have and recognise in these chilling economic times that we did not give good value for money last season. It began badly and was clearly inconsistent thereafter.”

WE MAY NOT HAVE GIVEN HYMN A CHANCE IF OTHER PLAYERS HAD COME INTO THE CLUB HE IS LIKE A NEW SIGNING AND BETTER THAN MANY WHO COULD HAVE COME HEAR MAYBE WE WILL FIND A COUPLE MORE IN THE YOUTH SET UP IT IS PROVING TO BE VERY SPECIAL TO BRING THESE PLAYERS AND NOT RELY ON POSSIBLE OR OVERATED LOAN PLAYERS

> This is the perfect public statement.

The problem is that only a week ago Keane said he wanted to bring four players in and hinted his relationship with Evans/Clegg would be under pressure if we do not. We seem to lurch from one extreme to the other, from "hoping to get three in by the weekend" to "no one is coming at all".

I think if the board really wanted to make money they could have quite easily accepted bids for mcauley and wickham. It is suprising money from the walteers sale is yet to be seen particuarly as keane said we needed four players. Hopefully we will pick up a few loan sigingings and see them make a significant difference like some of the better loanees we've had in previous years such as jimmy juan and mark noble. A forum user of manchester united beleives we are heavily linked with tom cleverly and darren gibson only time will tell though come on town

Just a thought - if we're winning the majority of our games, with half the squad currently out injured and thus due back in the coming weeks, why do we need to bring loads of other players in?

As for "where's the money gone?" - didn't ITFC make a £10m or so loss last year? Excess players sold to balance the books, team does not go bust, get chased by HMRC etc.

I don't see the problem myself - if everyone was fit we have 2 or 3 decent options in every position, and if we continue to be plagued by injuries we can dip into the loan market to fill a gap.

The team is flying high and most importantly of all we have a system that everyone seems to understand, as well as a flexible squad with many players such as Peters, O'Connor, Edwards and Kennedy who are able to switch confidently between a number of positions.

I seriously believe we can get promotion with the current squad

mmmm. not good me thinks but hey great start to the season and possibly some decent loans to come in. one post has got my goat tho, not everyone who is a town fan can afford a season ticket or be able to attend every game ITFCFan!!! My trips to see my team are few and far between, work or financial comitments prevent me seeing my beloved blues, but should that stop me or anybody else from having an opinion??? if people can afford a season ticket or be able to go to every game, good on them! but don't knock people who can't!!! iv'e been a Town fan for over 30 years, visited 60+ grounds travelled abroad and followed England in Itaia 90. too many trips to Portman Road for me are spoilt by so-called 'Town' fans who have an attitued of 'your-not-a-season-ticket-holder-how-dare-you-support-MY TEAM!!!' THESE PEOPLE NEED TO GET A LIFE!!! i for one would much prefer PR to have 8000 people who sing, support and actually back the side rather tha 20'000 season ticket-holders who sit in silence and think they've done their bit ;cos they've shelled out £700 on a plastic seat!!! BACK THE BLUES WHY DON'T YOU!!! you're the reason we are often called 'Worst home support' sorry to rant but this site is all about opinions and this is mine! IT'S EVERYBODYS CLUB, NOT JUST THE WELL-OFF!! COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!!!

So we'll be making loan signings.... Who exactly do Sunderland have that won't be in the 25 man squad?

I think Keane has a signing or two up his sleeve, I wish people would stop moaning at least until after the transfer deadline. We have had a fantastic start to the season and the team seems to be gelling really nicely.

As for if your not a season ticket holder your opinion doesn't matter! what a load of tosh! ITFCFan you have no idea...COYB

Even tho I did renew my season ticket. I hope this is a lesson to the club that people aren't wiling to pay the exspensive prices for what seem like a bad side a month ago.

Luckily I'm a student so season tickets are cheaper :)

The mixed messages throughout the pre-season and even since the season-proper began are truly baffling. Marrying up RK's comments with those of SC equate to to a 3-dimensional puzzle. It's patently clear they are not on the same wavelength. It's now coming down to a choice for ME; who to back; RK who has performed miracles so far this season at least, or SC who has more influence in the murky waters of the commercial sector. As usual we wil be fed the usual diet od of c**p and expected to lap it up.

RK's distancing himself from SCs comments is a worry in itself; SC to feel that he needs to comment in my view speaks volumes.

There is more to come I fear. The ITFC roadshow rolls on.

I for one long for the days past when we only had the real football to discuss.

All of us seem to agree on at least two things.... we've made a fabulous start to the season & the squad needs strengthening to cover for injuries, suspensions & poss loss of player form. However I'll only start worrying if no-one comes in by the time the loan window closes. I'd be amazed if we don't already have serious irons in the fire here.

Re permanent signings, the club does not want to repeat past mistakes by paying over the odds and it could well be that things change significantly on targets come January and we can then get better VFM, eg if he's still in Keano's plans what will Chopra be worth in Jan & how happy will he be if struggling to get a game or Cardiff not doing well or Bellamy disrupting things with his Bertie Big B@llocks antics.

As long as the bullsh-t that keeps being fed to the supporters continues to be accepted, Evans and Clegg will keep laughing. The only thing that matters to them is the bottom line - success on the pitch, and finishing in the 'top 6' is of distant and secondary importance.
What other conclusion can anyone, of sane mind, have after so many players have been shipped out saving thousands on wages, and virtually nothing coming in to replace. This cannot be denied.
Dream on boys - the only ambition within this club now is with SOME supporters and players, as for the two afore mentioned the only important thing is £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££'s - and I don't mean spending them !!
Such a shame when we have started the season so well.
It's high time some of you made the decision to WAKE UP and smell the coffee for what it really is.

kevlowestoft...thanks for good laugh.
I tend to agree with those that have acknwledged the very good start. the good additions we have made so far along with an excellent showing from the youngsters e.g. Hyam. Am confident that there is a plan to bollster those positions where we do lack depth. As for the post that questions the calibre of those premier players that do not make the chosen 25, Bellamy is one example and perhaps Gio will be as well. Could be lots to pick from and because of our start, I would think that we would be an attractive option for a player looking to go out on loan.
By the way, I live in Canada so am not a season ticket holder but do see the odd game (hopefully Coventry at home and Watford away this season) so hope that I am entitled to an opinion.Keep the faith!
UP THE TRACTOR BOYS!

OK we are where we are and we better get used to it. There is no bucket of gold, we clearly aren't even gonna get the money from Walters deal. I think there has been too much open talk about transfers from RK and to be frank players are probably not that keen to come play for him (excuse the pun). But whining and whinging is going to get us nowhere. I tell you what we can do, get our arses down to PR, back our team, and make some noise and if at the end of the season we are not in top 6 then complain. I've been going regularly now for near on 25 years and have seen the good and the dark days but the last 2-3 I have to say there probably has been more atmosphere in my local churchyard. COYB!!!

Would everyone taken this start to the season? Yes!!!!! It takes time to turn a clu around, get rid of the dead wood, sort the finances out etc. I wish peopl woul stop slagging marcus Evans of, he has put millions into this club!!!! They have made mistakes in priskin, martin, and hopefully learned slot, therefore the right deals will be done at the right price. ME is not daft so I'm sure there is plan in the making, just have faith please. We have had lots of bad luck with injuries but we are still winning so on there return we will be flying so STOP knocking and get behind the team. Come on the town!!!!!!!!!!!!
