Edwards Offered Deal
Edwards Offered Deal
Tuesday, 18th Jan 2011 12:27

Midfielder Carlos Edwards has reportedly been offered a new deal by the Blues. The Trinidad and Tobago international is one of 21 players whose contracts are up at the end of the season.

Edwards, 32, joined Town from Sunderland for £1.35 million in September 2009 and has subsequently gone on to make 47 starts and 12 sub appearances, scoring four goals. An option for a third year was included in that deal, which may now be what's on offer.

Skipper David Norris and key defender Gareth McAuley have previously been offered new two-year deals, although neither appear near agreeing terms at the present time.

Be a good super sub for another 18 months, once we buy a good right winger.

focus on getting norris and mccauley to sign, rather than this useless 'winger'
has been the weakest player in the past 3 games especially, but also the majority of the season.

Big mistake, lost the ability to go past players- a sub? needs to be let go

He is a good player under the right management everyone critisise him but he has pace, a natural wide player n he can spank a ball from distance to score goals something we've lacked in recent years he is getting past it but as someone said above if we can buy some1 better he'd be a good sub especially running at fullbacks with his pace, we NEED the spine of our team signed up though mac & delaney been the best centre backs 4 best part of 10 years I'd say& gotta keep Norris here too if we can then look to the future hyam & Murray their bright youngsters who can hopefully take this club forward in years to come

Only been worth half the 1.35 mil we paid up to date.

Worth keeping tho, still think he has something to prove..... EH CARLOS??????

I understand the club offering him a contract so he doesn't want away for free. £1.35M for Carlos Edwards though, what a waste of money! At his age we'll never get any money back on him, so for £1.35M we should have got a top-notch player. Perhaps Keane's second worst buy, especially as at the time he had Jon Walters and Jamie Peters to choose from on the right of midfield.

What a waste of good money! Lets get rid of the dross PJ - O'Dea, Healy, Edwards, Quinn, Martin, Kennedy, Brown, O'Conner and lets dig deep for some real quality players for the championship e.g Roberts, Mosses, Bebe, Nugent, Danns, Townsend, Austin, Ambrose, Ranger, Scott Sinclair, Kebbe, Mcanuff etc etc... ps Whatever happened to the great scouting network we had abroad?

I have noticed his workrate improve considerably over the last month

He's not worth the money RK paid for him, but I think he's worth signing up again. Just need PJ and his staff to teach him how to get to the bye line and cross the ball! Have you noticed how he always releases the ball from up the field rather than the byeline like most wingers. I reckon that's a few years of RK coaching that's spoiled him.

Form is Temporary, Class is Permanent!

He's been out of form for quite a while though ;-)

I had high expectations and was excited when we got him but he has failed to live up to his Luton and Sunderland form. Put it this way I would not want him in the trenches with me. One of the highest paid players at the Club so no doubt the new contract will be for far less and so it should be. Does not bother me at all if he goes, especially as he has not endeared himself to the fans with recent comments. We badly need pace on the flanks and he has lost his.

Right back anyone? Has pace (but maybe not as much as is needed for a winger nowadays?). just an idea. I always like watching Carlos play think his biggest own goal was comments against fans, sadly we are not very forgiving! I also prefer his set pieces to Leadbitter, can take a half decent corner and will score from a distance. I say give him another year...... otherwise thats another 1.3 mil walking away foc.

Is this the same Carlos Edwards that admitted at the end of last season he didn't put enough effort in and has continued in the same way this season??

I'm shocked he cost us £1.35M, we could have got so much more with that money.

The most annoying bits about CE game is his ability seems to come and go. Crossing can be row Z, then he can score 20yeard goal. If you can score a goal from distance putting a cross in must be easier.

Pace issue, well nobody at town is electric fast!

You don't want much do you bezzer

Bezzer added 13:38 - Jan 18
Garv - Obviously i wouldn't expect quite so many in, but surely you see the point that you need proven good quality championship players if you are going to do anything and lets be fair i think we would all agree with Mosses on one wing, Kebbe/Mcanuff on the other and perhaps Roberts/Nugent up front it would make us a more attractive attacking side! We have turned into a one dimentional, slow paced, defensive and quite frankly boring team who rely too heavilly on the strikers when in reality our problems stem from lack of creativity, power and pace in the midfield.

Decent player but no sure if his future lies at ITFC to be honest.

Bezzer agree in part but not about O Connor or Brown both young players with a bright future...

Although he can be a very good player sometimes, he's inconsistent...and 4 goals in 47 starts and 12 sub appearances is really not good enough for an attacking player.
