Chopra at Portman Road Today
Chopra at Portman Road Today
Thursday, 9th Jun 2011 10:19

TWTD understands that Cardiff striker Michael Chopra will be at Portman Road today to complete the formalities of his move and if all goes well to sign on the dotted line. The Blues and Bluebirds have agreed a £1.5 million deal for the 27-year-old frontman.

Town, who previously targeted the former Sunderland and Newcastle man during Roy Keane’s time in charge, are understood to have turned their attention back to Chopra late last month after having a £2.3 million offer for Doncaster striker Billy Sharp turned down.

An initial offer of £1 million was turned down by the managerless Welsh club but a subsequent £1.5 million offer in the last couple of days was accepted by the play-off semi-finalists.

As is their usual policy, the club are remaining tight-lipped regarding the situation but we expect the former England U21 international to be at the club today to continue talking terms and to undergo a medical.

The one-time Newcastle trainee, who is contracted to Cardiff until 2012, scored 11 goals in 28 starts and 11 sub appearances during 2010/11 despite being in and out of the side due to injuries.

Overall, Chopra, who also had loan spells with Watford, Nottingham Forest and Barnsley before joining Cardiff for the first time from Newcastle for £500,000 in June 2006, has scored 65 goals in 142 starts and 20 sub appearances over his two permanent spells and two periods on loan with the Welsh side.

In July 2007 the 5ft 9in tall frontman joined Roy Keane's Premier League Sunderland for £5 million, rejoining Cardiff permanently for £4 million two years later after successful spells on loan in the second half of 2008/09.

Meanwhile, striker Connor Wickham suffered an ankle injury in training with the England U21s this morning after a tackle by Manchester United new recruit Phil Jones but the problem is not thought to be serious.

my god, isnt it bad enough with all the rumours about players we are in for bad enough without people on here spreading more about a player we're actually talking to? just wait & see what happens people. if he not asking for more than M.E. is willing to pay, then he'll sign, if not, we move on. simple as that. gtr, just so u know, the july 1st date is for players out of contract, not those, loike chopra who still under contract with their present club.

Would be an excellent buy. Yes,he was of course RK'starget - but if we can agree the deal this year then great.

BUT until this is signed - best not to get too carried away - remember Charlie Austin? Clegg managed to cock that up!

Well, it seems that the lad is a bit overweight and his concentration is on night clubs. If Mr Jewell and he agree to lose 4 stone between them (2.5/1.5), I think we're in with a chance.
Then all we need is to cancel all trains to Liverpool Street.

Easy.

Ipswich Town
On 9th june 2011 Ipswich Town confirmed the signing of Michael Chopra for a fee of around £1.5 million, with this news Ladbrookes announced they will be opening a new Portman Road betting shop, specially for 'chops'.
