Town Make Stearman Enquiry
Town Make Stearman Enquiry
Wednesday, 27th Jul 2011 22:58

Town have made an enquiry to Saturday’s friendly opponents Wolves regarding their versatile defender Richard Stearman. The 23-year-old’s opportunities at Molineux look likely to be limited during the season ahead with manager Mick McCarthy having signed Roger Johnson from Birmingham for £4 million earlier this summer.

Wolverhampton-born Stearman started his career with Leicester, making his debut for the Foxes in 2004.

Four years later, having been a regular in the Leicester side for the previous three seasons, he joined his hometown club for an undisclosed fee.

A member of the 2008/09 Wolves Championship-winning side, £1 million-rated Stearman primarily plays at centre-half but also at right-back, both areas where the Blues currently need cover.

Last season, 6ft 3in tall Stearman made 32 starts and four sub appearances, scoring one goal, largely covering for injured skipper Jody Craddock, who has just signed a new deal at Molineux.

An England U17, U18, U19 and U21 international, Stearman, who is contracted to Wolves until 2014, was linked with a switch of allegiance to the Republic of Ireland, the country of a grandparent’s birth, earlier in the year.

Quite quick, strong and fits the bill, only worry is he can be a bit Alex Bruceish in making a few 'crazy' challenges. If the price is right or possibly a season ling loan then go for it.

Yes. This is more like it. Him & killgallon & that will turn us into promotion contenders over night. Then only a creative CM & maybe a RB will do us just fine.

this would be the signing to top the lot in my opinion, i think it would be difficult to get him on permanent basis but possibly a loan, the lad is class, him and big mac were the partnership at Leicester, the best partnership in the division when they went down which is strange but true and by all accounts Stearman was the better of the two by a distance.

Didn't Stearman play RB for Leicester?

Think it would be easier to get a good RCB in than a RB

Good player who would be a useful addition to the back 4. Might be a bit too expensive though...

Oh goodness me yes. Just so much yes comes to mind. People may bring up the price isssue, but anything between £2-3 million would be a good price for this player. Could fill in at right back as well if needed.

Just, Yes.

Yes please to this player. He would be ahead of Delaney, who IMO continues to flatter to deceive with his constant HOOOOOOOF in to row Z type clearances !

Hmmm..? Doubt he'd want to sign for us at the moment, but a 6 month or season long loan might be enough for him to fall in love with the club!! Fingers crossed!!

Did play RB at Leicester where McAuley's central defensive partner was Patrick Kisnorbo. Seems to have switched to centre with Wolves. Would be an unbelievable signing if PJcan pull it off.

Bloody hell its as if we're on the verge of signing him! Calm down people! WOULD be a great signing. Skeptical to be honest as too whether he would fancy a drop down a league, sure he could still do a job in the premier league. Could help form another McAuley Delaney partnership, only better. But we'll see.
