Reserves Beat Luton
Reserves Beat Luton
Wednesday, 17th Aug 2011 18:53

Town’s reserves beat Luton 3-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Playford Road this afternoon with Ronan Murray, Luke Hyam and Caolan Lavery on the scoresheet. The Blues’ second string withdrew from the Football Combination East Division at the end of last season and will play only friendlies during 2011/12.

Senior squad members Nathan Ellington, Andy Drury, Colin Healy and Jaime Peters were included in what was a strong reserves side, along with youngsters Joe Whight, Jamie Griffiths, Jide Maduako and Cody Cropper.

Murray opened the scoring when he seized on a blocked Ellington shot, Hyam headed home a header from a Jamie Griffiths cross and Lavery added the third after a one-two with Murray. Luton’s Dan Walker pulled one back towards the end.

Reserves: Cropper, O'Connor, Peters, Maduako, Whight; Drury, Hyam, Healy, Griffiths (Burke 65); Ellington (Lavery 65), Murray. Unused: Bennett and Thorsteinsson.

Bluesym i think this means priskin may well have played his last for us.I think at least drury and healey will feature on saturday. Who played at centre back?

Ellington, Drury, Peters and Healy all had their chance against Northampton last week and all disappointed. Drury can't have done much worse than the central midfielers yesterday, I agree.

It's not a good start for Ellington, to be behind Jason Scotland in the striking ranks and with Jewell opening looking to bring in a new front man! At least he was only a free transfer, but I hope we do get something out of him.

Glad Murray had a decent game by scoring, creating and hitting the bar. For me he's the second or third choice strike partner for Chopra after Emmanuel-Thomas and Priskin.

Ellington and Scotland are terrible options for Chopra.

No O'connor.

Hoo fricken ray. But surely playing combination matches is more competitive than behind closed door friendlies?

Play this lot on Saturday - can't do any worse than last night's excuse of a team (chops, cresy, JET, Andrews, Stocky, Scotland excluded)!

Bluesym- I query this too ... There have been several posts about possibility of trying Priskin/Chopra... If he's not in the reserves - is he up with the "first" team or completely out of favour. Think the club should advise. Cannot believe that if he's still good enough for his country that he's not good enough for us especially in view of the muppet show that I went to last night

round pegs in square holes time for jewel to get back to basics and stop messing about with players positions.
I take it also defenders are now his top priority

Why not try Priskin with Chopra on Saturday?? But if he can't even make the reserve team something must be going on.....

Very well done to all the lads 2-0 up after 10 min . Could make a good side if kept together for a length of time? It ended 3-1 defensive error in the last 5 min prob took the foot off the gas, thinking it was all over ?But allowing them to score a easy goal is no good, that could cost the team dearly on aggregate. Glad to see that the team kept the flow and pace of the game up in the second half.Paul Jewell will be keeping a eagle eye on some of these guys? keep it up COYB
