Jewell: Priskin Can Leave
Jewell: Priskin Can Leave
Friday, 16th Sep 2011 12:31

Town boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that striker Tamás Priskin can leave Portman Road but says that can only happen if a club comes in for him. The 24-year-old, who was close to joining Leeds on loan last month, spoke out about his lack of opportunities at Portman Road while away with the Hungarian national squad last week.

Jewell said: “He can go, it’s not a problem that. But you have to be careful what you read about quotes, I’ve only just seen [the story] this morning and he said he’d like to go on loan.

“I had him in my office about three weeks ago and told him that Leeds wanted to take him on loan. He asked if he could think about it because he wanted to talk to ask his agent and his dog and his cat and by the time he’d thought about it Leeds had taken Andy Keogh from Wolves.

“On deadline day his agent called me and we went through the whole of the Championship asking if they’d take Tamás on loan and we’re still waiting for a reply. He can go, it’s just that he needs to go to someone who wants to take him.”

The Blues boss says he has no issue with the summer 2009 £1.7 million signing from Watford and will continue to consider him for selection: “He’s the one who wants to go. I spoke to Tamás in pre-season. I told him that he’s 6ft 1in tall, he’s quick, he’s strong, he’s got all the attributes and it’s a big season for him and that he would get his opportunity.

“I see these guys in training every day. He hasn’t really impressed me in training enough to get on the bench.

“It’s not a problem, although I wish he’d just say it to me. I wish he’d just knock on my door and say it to me but I suppose when they go away on international duty things can [be like that]."

Jewell says he has no problem with the former QPR and Swansea loanee's approach to training or games but says he's just not shown him enough this season: “While he’s here he’ll always be considered, as long as his attitude’s fine and his attitude hasn’t been a problem. I just don’t think he’s done well enough in the matches.

“He played the other day — Ellington got a hat-trick, little Rooney [Ronan Murray] came on and got two goals. Football doesn’t owe him a living because he’s a Hungarian international.”

Priskin, who is yet to appear for the Town first team this season, is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Can't sack him as he has told the truth,he is'nt getting opportunities here because he is'nt impressing the manager. For his and the clubs sake I hope this will be sorted soon and quietly and this could give more of an opportunity to Little Rooney ect ect.All the best Tamas it just was'nt to be but thanks for the Arsenal goal.

Not sure this is needed to be honest, quite harsh comments for me. He's still young, he's going to be indecisive and I think its times like these that a manager needs to, as we say, 'put an arm round the shoulder' and give him some confidence. If he's not performing well enough in training, fair cop (although I would be happy to see him play again), but I'm not sure these comments are necessary, Jewell is basically mocking him publicly. Then again you could say Tamas had it coming with his comments earlier in the week? Looks a dead cert. to move on in the very near future but I would happily wish the guy luck wherever he goes, and would certainly give him a clap if he was to return to Portman road in the future. Will never forget watching him curling that ball round Szczesny Henry style from behind the goal.

How about dealing with such matters within the club? (More preferable than shooting your gobs off to dodgy hacks)... and PJs' dull cheeky chappie sense of humour is about as amusing as Stan Boardman.

Rarely have I seen or read anything so unprofessional and self-defeating (by devaluing the player) as this pathetic childish diatribe from PJ - the fact that he feels he has to justify his position is so symptomatic of a manager under serious pressure... Christ have some dignity mate!

legoman ...only good assist player ?

What do you base this on his 3 assists for goals he has made in his 60 odd games he has played for Town ? Rory Fallon almost created the same amount in less than a month !!

Panic buy by Keane he will drift off to a foreign league or lower league somewhere and find his level ,the type of player not committed that has taken us nowhere over last two years

It would appear his one good season at Watford, earned him a reputation which he has never been able to live up to. Without disrespect to the guy, I don't think what he has bought to the table will make him a great miss.

I cant believe people are slacking off Jewell!!! Priskin has not shown enough on the pitch (when he's made it) to be considered anything other than "back up" & this applies to Keane's time in charge aswell. Jewell sees him in training everyday, & clearly he's not showing enough in training either, Priskin needs to understand that he can't live off one goal for the rest of his contract!! He's just not quality enough, if PJ has given Priskin & his agent the opprtunity to contact every Championship club to see if they want him & he's still here waiting on a call, thats hardly Jewell's fault is it!! Why people keep saying "he's still young" "give him a chance" surely being young should mean he's fired up & desperate to prove himself, the sooner he leaves the better.

What an embarresing scene PJ should know better his a manager of quality it is said?
I would expect him to be able to spot a player thats underperforming because his not happy instead of the lets talk and see whats occuring approh harnessing this hunger to play... he has simply dismmised him way out of hand and to the press...!!!!! for Gods Sake
I see this kind of bad management at Sunday Leauge under 16 Youth level a manager whos ego gets the better of him and thinks he knows best.... and screw the rest of you...PJ it always ends the same ....in tears be warned...you are on a Yellow as far as Im concerned Paul any more of that behavour and your off Son ...ok!!! I hope Tamas stays and bags a few this season for us. Keep your pecker up Tamas and when you get on the pitch prove what a fool hardy comment it was that PJ made Good Luck Son!!!

Paul thinks Ellington is better than Priskin because he scored in a reserve game. Now I'm concerned! Chops hasn't exactly shone in our current formation.

A player with potential but a poor attitude. Would prefer to see him than Ellington any day but to be fair Priskin hasn't exactly set the world alight either.

Tractortrog ... he is underperforming because he is not very good and hasnt been for 2 seasons .He is not trying or bothered because he wants to leave without putting any effort in to get in the team .
How you can blame Jewell for Priskins lack of success under two managers at Town and the fact no championship managers want him on loan tells its own story

Jewells losing it..

the comment about ellington and little rooney is just tit for tat childish nonsense..
whatever he thinks of the underperforming Tamas... he should be a professional and not publically criticise his players..it effects the whole camp.

Clown management from a clown manager...

Priskin has been his own worst enemy IMO. He has washed his dirty laundry in public by blubbing to the media. A professional would have knocked on PJ's door and had a man to man talk about his grievances!

Priskin obviously doesn't display much conviction in training , because that's now 2 managers, (Keane and Jewell) that have constantly omitted him from the squad.

i reckon he misses fulop as he appeared to brighten up when we signed the keeper must be a language issue i.e: he's too lazy to communicate with the rest of the club!! i thought & still think the lad has great potential but at his age now he should have buckled down gritted his teeth & shown on the park & in training some serious "you dare not leave me out " attitude sadly i fear a great player in the making(arsenal yes! but any other game stand out??) will just drift out as far as english leagues are concerned(shame!!!!).

Chirpswich - 'the camp' are just as sick of Passenger Priskin as PJ is. Maybe PJ is saying this stuff on behalf of 'the camp'. Priskin deserves it.

That's Martin and Priskin PJ has slagged off now. No doubt the PJ lovers will shoot me down, but it will probably be the same people who banged on about how great PJ was and was an 'arm round the shoulder type of guy'. Really? Slating players in public - is that good then? Doesn't look like an 'arm round the shoulder' to me.

p.s. if this had have been Roy or Jim - man 99% of people would be calling for their head! The double standards are unreal. Still, 8 defeats in 11 is good right?

If individual players dish the grievances in public, before having the decency / professionalism to speak to the manager 1st - they deserve the response they get from the manager.
