Jewell: Priskin Can Leave
Jewell: Priskin Can Leave
Friday, 16th Sep 2011 12:31

Town boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that striker Tamás Priskin can leave Portman Road but says that can only happen if a club comes in for him. The 24-year-old, who was close to joining Leeds on loan last month, spoke out about his lack of opportunities at Portman Road while away with the Hungarian national squad last week.

Jewell said: “He can go, it’s not a problem that. But you have to be careful what you read about quotes, I’ve only just seen [the story] this morning and he said he’d like to go on loan.

“I had him in my office about three weeks ago and told him that Leeds wanted to take him on loan. He asked if he could think about it because he wanted to talk to ask his agent and his dog and his cat and by the time he’d thought about it Leeds had taken Andy Keogh from Wolves.

“On deadline day his agent called me and we went through the whole of the Championship asking if they’d take Tamás on loan and we’re still waiting for a reply. He can go, it’s just that he needs to go to someone who wants to take him.”

The Blues boss says he has no issue with the summer 2009 £1.7 million signing from Watford and will continue to consider him for selection: “He’s the one who wants to go. I spoke to Tamás in pre-season. I told him that he’s 6ft 1in tall, he’s quick, he’s strong, he’s got all the attributes and it’s a big season for him and that he would get his opportunity.

“I see these guys in training every day. He hasn’t really impressed me in training enough to get on the bench.

“It’s not a problem, although I wish he’d just say it to me. I wish he’d just knock on my door and say it to me but I suppose when they go away on international duty things can [be like that]."

Jewell says he has no problem with the former QPR and Swansea loanee's approach to training or games but says he's just not shown him enough this season: “While he’s here he’ll always be considered, as long as his attitude’s fine and his attitude hasn’t been a problem. I just don’t think he’s done well enough in the matches.

“He played the other day — Ellington got a hat-trick, little Rooney [Ronan Murray] came on and got two goals. Football doesn’t owe him a living because he’s a Hungarian international.”

Priskin, who is yet to appear for the Town first team this season, is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Scotland has come back from pre-season leaner and keener, Priskin not. They phoned every Championship club and no one was interested. Says it all. We have carried too many players at this club who don't give their all and he is another.

I see the usual suspects are lining up to take a pot at PJ. Priskin arrived for alot of money - check out his 4x4 in the club car park! He has gone public about wanting to go and PJ has responded to a direct question. The bottom line is that he has not fought to get back in the team, if he had he would have been given a chance from the bench at least. It is time for him to go.

jas0999 I agree as far as martin is concerned but that may well have genuinely been down to Lee's disciplinary record wich even you must admit is poor and if I was his manager I just might do one but as far as Priskin is concerned earlier in the week he made statements to the press about this club,Paul Jewell was absolutely within his rights to reply and make a counter statement.Priskin is (at the moment) an Ipswich town player and as such should show the team and staff the respect that you and i know he should , he did'nt and so should be shown the door asap.

are you any good as a striker
you could score three times in a go and then we would have no problems.

Is it really worth responding to jas anymore? Waiting for him to blame world poverty on PJ.

Yet again a case of PJ letting his mouth move faster than his brain with so many mixed messages. Getting tired of the cheeky chat from PJ as he hasn't exactly set the world on fire since he has been here and he needs to focus his attention on putting out our best team with our best players in their best positions - haven't seen much evidence of that so far. Looking forward to the posts in response!

Good for you PJ,well said mate, some of these players live their entire lives through their agents & how much money they can get out of the game - probably couldn't give a toss about whether he's playing for us or whoever's willing/stupid enough to throw money his way..Priskin's another like Leadbitter who's been bloody useless since arriving and only plays when it suits him..not good enough..1 great goal in 2 years v Arsenal..shall not be missed..just Go.

He's got a cat AND a dog? Who looks after them when he's away on International duty? I'd be keeping a close eye on this story if i were the RSPCA...

Anyone know what ever happened to Jamie Peters? Last I saw of him, he was making an awesome show against arsenal in that 1-0 win (that i'm still dining out on), probably one of the best right back performance of the season.
...think he has only played aout 12 minutes of football since then. Why?

Another Ipswich Town failure, just at a time when we thought he might have some talent. He's totally out of order going to the press, this would never have happened in Robson's day. The man is completely unproffesional and should be thrown out of Ipswich ASAP, put him on the ferry at Harwich with a one way ticket!!

As for Priskin he can stay!!!

Jamie peters? I saw him cruising round town three days ago in his nearly new black range rover. So clearly alive, and still getting paid large amounts of dough for doing sweet f all.

Psgblue are you thick? Priskin is a workshy waste of money, who is a terrible influence in the dressing room. A man who thinks he is better than he is. Get rid of him, except as jewell says, nobody wants him.

Worrying that we have such a totally incompetent Manager - even more worrying that we have some supporters agreeing with him. God help us - we have no hope as a Club with this combination.

priskin can leave, we don't need players like him here upsetting team moral. Though last night I had a dream that he had signed for Man Utd for £400k!!!

victorywillhappen - it 's a question of just WHO are the sad people. Some of you are just pathetic, non ambitious, anything will do - people.
Maybe if a few more of you find another interest - the Club will regain some ambition and success one day. You're the sad people I'm afraid - if I had your level of satisfaction I'd give up anyway.

StanwayBlue - just keep being satisfied with second best, which obviously you are, and forever will be.
