Tenerife Target Pablo
Tenerife Target Pablo

Ex-Blues striker Pablo Couñago could be on the verge of joining Tenerife, who play in the Segunda División B, the third tier of Spanish football, having been released by Town at the end of last season.

Tenerife, who currently sit second in the table having been relegated last season, are believed to keen to add Couñago to their squad, but may be thwarted with the 32-year-old possibly having options at a higher level, perhaps even in the Primera División, come January and the reopening of the transfer window.

Couñago spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace having rejoined the Blues after leaving Malaga on a free transfer in the summer of 2007. He was previously at Portman Road between 2001 and 2005.

The Town crowd favourite made 147 starts and 95 sub appearances across his two spells, scoring 62 goals.

I still remember Willie Donarchie beating him in pre-season run.....

Presumably he can sign for anyone right away being a free agent. The fact he hasn't found a club approaching November doesn't say a lot about the demand for him.

I'd still have him back in an instant. Loved the club and was such a good player. Anyone who has dvds of 03/04 and 04/05 just watch it and look at some of the things he did that no one else could.

I suppose that goal against Cov will be the last memory we have of him. Not a bad goal to be remembered by but still think Keane treated him disgracefully.

Legend.

Good player but could be frustrating sometimes, never knew what would happen when he was around but someone who could make things happen. We need another Pablo

Pablo Counago is a member of the upper echelons of society and displays a mark of standards evident. I once observed him quaff a bottle a vintage port before discussing his favourite brand of Cuban Cigar. He was up at 5am the next morning fox hunting, a true man of standards!

What. I can't believe he hasn't found a new club yet!

Pablo Counago was not only a wonderful contributor to Ipswich Town on the field but also to many fine dining establishments in the local area. He was the first Ipswich Town player to visit the company shed (now frequented by Echelons Bullard, Andrews, Sonko, Healy, Chopra) and would insist on Katherine Jenkins being played in the dressing room before a match. The consortium had the pleasure of joining Mr Counago on that very Fox hunt and considering his lack of sleep the gent still told the group many fine anecdotes about his time spent on safari whilst sharing his staunch “no motor” standpoint.

Good luck Pablo although one worries that the Spanish climate will result in a need to no longer wear the "white gentleman's gloves" that you often graced many an event with.

I will have more time for the piffle detailed by "Shoopdelang" when he gets peoples usernames correct. I assume he was also directing his comment at myself or is this esteemed_ipswich some sort of phantom poster? One thing is clear and that's that the gent needs to master having standards, also a basic grasp of the English language would make him look less of a tool.

One would also like to thank Matteo Sereni from taking time out from rasping various syndicates and sharing his views with the board.

Tenerife or Ipswich? I truly know which area I would rather live in, give me that sunshine every time, and yes I was born and breed in the Ipswich area.

But it still amazes me how Pablo is held as a legend???? He had one good season for ITFC and many well below par. Now the guy in the story above is a legend, always gave his best, and always terrified the defence, Thank You Paul Mariner for every thing you done for us!

Pablo Great player.
Tenerife? A bit of a mess with its multi country inhabitants.
But fascinating all the same. I've worked on a Finca there. With water down the culverts from Teide for the Oranges!
