Clegg: Jewell Still Has Owner's Backing
Clegg: Jewell Still Has Owner's Backing
Wednesday, 30th Nov 2011 10:37

Town chief executive Simon Clegg says he and club owner Marcus Evans still have confidence in manager Paul Jewell despite the Blues’ run of six successive defeats, the latest last night’s 4-0 thrashing at Burnley.

Clegg said: "Marcus has still got huge confidence in the manager and that he can turn this around.

"We're all devastated,” he continued. “This is a really poor run of games we're on at the moment.

"Let's not forget we had a good run only about five weeks ago. I am convinced we've got the right players to turn this around.

"And if anyone can do it, Paul Jewell can. I've still got a lot of confidence in Paul Jewell. I think he's a top manager.

"It's not a comfortable time at the moment. And all I can do is assure all our loyal fans that every effort is being made to turn this around quickly."

Is David Dein still sat at home twiddling his thumbs waiting for Arsenal to call him?

SuperReuser....its more than a few games now isn't it! We not just losing games we are being hammered on a regular basis...shipping goals at a spectacular rate, maybe you should get a grip if you actually believe thats ok?

Nitroblue1970 - Of course I dont want us to lose game or ship goals but we are not being hammered on a regular basis (for example - was unfortunately to lose to reading when we were ahead at 90mins) We had lost 6 games yes - which is bad - I agree! But what I am saying is sacking Jewell is not the correct thing to do. He is a good manager (proven at this level on more than occasion) and needs time to build a squad. A squad isnt build in half a season. I showed some of my colleagues at work this forum and they couldn't believe everyone is against Paul Jewell and calling for his head. Why dont we all get behind him at this negative time and maybe a bit of positivity will shine through on the field!

I've kept quiet over the last couple of weeks and just watched at what is being said on here and as a Town fan for 29 years & a season ticket holder since 1998 I can honestly say I'm ashamed of most of you so called "fans"
No things are bloomin horrible at the moment and yes it is very embarrassing being a town fan at the moment but how on this earth can you be calling for Jewells head so fast???? How can u blame him for THE PLAYERS not doing their jobs properly on the pitch???? The likes of Bullard & Bowyer have done sod all since signing on the dotted line yet this is the managers fault according to you lot! No I don't 100% agree with all of PJs desitions or tactics but that doesn't excuse the simple fact THE PLAYERS ARE NOT DOING THEIR JOBS!!!! I can't believe how fickle all you lot are that are calling for his head just 1 season in! Its pathetic and "fans" like you is not what this club needs!!!!!

What would you all do instead? I want names.

As for staying away on Saturday, I'm pretty sure that isn't going to solve anything. Even Blackburn fans turn up every week, even if they do only to protest and I think they have a far better case against Kean than we actually do against Jewell.

@ BlakeyBlue.

Who bought the 'players' in the first place?
Who's job is it to manage the players?
Who's job is it to coach and help train the players?
Who's job is it to motivate the players?
Who's job is it to make sub changes and formation changes?
Last i checked that was the manager's job!

The problem is u lot will never be happy because ur never whiling to give any1 the time it takes to sort it out. The way things are going we will have worse manager count the Chelsea if u all get ur own way! Relegation or no relegation stick with PJ and let him build! That is my opinion that I'm entitled too!

I see the problem not just being Paul Jewell's fault.....

Marcus has invested heavily & appears to be an extremely patient & loyal man...possibly traits that have made him the successful business man he is.

Mistakes have been made from appointing the previous manager. Too much money was spent/wasted on players that did not perform and the baffling sale of Jordan Rhodes. My fear is...Marcus & Simon Clegg are not footballing people so who is making the judgement on appointing the right manager. I think we need an experienced football man to sit between Marcus Evans & the manager...my choice would be David Dein.

Paul Jewell has a 50/50 hit rate with his previous clubs being either very successful or relegated. Last season he dragged us back from the relegation zone (a fact forgotten by most on here) and 5 weeks ago we were in the play-off's. Clearly Paul Jewell has opted for a safe option by signing players with experience and has probably stacked the team with too many where other teams have pace & energy to burn we are getting caught out by this.

These experienced players really need to take a lead on the pitch to stop this terrible run.

This doesn't mean we can't turn it around with a few young player signings with pace, energy & desire in January and get far away from the drop zone.

COYB...

Northernblues - Yes the buck does stop with the Manager and this is wrong because he is actually a decent manager whose players are letting him down! I dont get why everyone on here WANTS to be so negative. Its almost like people get a kick from us doing badly so they can have a moan. Lets get behind him and show him support and as i said earlier, such positivity might shine through on the field.

If not this is what I foresee happening - Jewell gets sacked, new manager brought in, he does well for a while and everyone likes him, he then starts doing badly, fans want him sacked, gets sacked, start from point 1 again.

BlakeyBlue, how right you are. Well said.

It never ceases to amaze me the total lack of knowledge displayed on this site by so many so called town fans.I have supported the club through a League Chapionship,FA cup and Uefa cup success and a number of relegations and promotions in between. Nothing was ever achieved by a knee jerk reaction to a run of poor results. The biggest mistake made by Mr Evans was the sacking of Jim Magilton who was heading in the right direction and gaining in experience but not quick enough for those on this site wanting instant success.
If you want instant success go support Man Utd or City.If you want to support real football stick with Ipswich Town BUT support, not knock with the benefit of hindsight those who have the wisdom and knowledgeto make us great again.

@ Legend.

Whose job is it to score goals?
Whose job is it to defend?
Whose job is it to carry out the Gaffers orders?
Whose job is it to support your team through thick and thin?

You're a SUPPORTER, man up, get a grip and support through thick and thin.
