Clegg: Jewell Still Has Owner's Backing
Clegg: Jewell Still Has Owner's Backing
Wednesday, 30th Nov 2011 10:37

Town chief executive Simon Clegg says he and club owner Marcus Evans still have confidence in manager Paul Jewell despite the Blues’ run of six successive defeats, the latest last night’s 4-0 thrashing at Burnley.

Clegg said: "Marcus has still got huge confidence in the manager and that he can turn this around.

"We're all devastated,” he continued. “This is a really poor run of games we're on at the moment.

"Let's not forget we had a good run only about five weeks ago. I am convinced we've got the right players to turn this around.

"And if anyone can do it, Paul Jewell can. I've still got a lot of confidence in Paul Jewell. I think he's a top manager.

"It's not a comfortable time at the moment. And all I can do is assure all our loyal fans that every effort is being made to turn this around quickly."

Morris you missed the point.. I was refering to the foundations of this club more than the immediate predicament. Scouting and Youth! which is what this club knows! This club is in a position of imbalance. What person do you think that knows this club intimately enough to come here and tell that the ME.

Either put money into this club in the fashion of Man city or Leicester within finacial context and truly make an attempt to buy yourself out of this league.
Or get back to basic's and build the true foundations of which a club like us has only ever known!

I await your answer PeterMorris

Most of you calling for Jewell to go are the same ones who were calling for Keano to go and lauding Jewell as the answer.

You we're wrong before so you have zero credibity now. What's your solution?

I said back in the days of Magilton that 'Curbs' was the answer. He's such an 'Ipswich' manager in the traditional sense of the word, superb eye for young talent and plays good football. Hopefully I'll be proven right eventually.

Jewell has got to go. He's lost the dressing room. Keano might have been a bit of a hitler, but this guy just gasses to the media about his (yes his, he bought them) flops like there's no tomorrow.

petermorris and RedDust I agree with both of your comments, as for the names used in your post I can't see why anyone would want Matt Holland, great player and captain but he's a pundit. I don't think he's done any coaching at all and people forget how Burley was a nearly man for most of his time as Ipswich manager.
RedDust, fundimentally what we need in charge to sort out the imbalances you talk of is a football man, not an athletics man. It doesn't work, as Evans doesn't understand football he needs a knowledgable number two.
The day to day problems stop with the manager but are not in anyway all Jewells fault.

Looks like a pub team,a lot of good names but not many would get into any other Championship side,no leaders on field.
Super Reuser and Blakey Blue these are quotes from Paul Jewell who Major Clegg thinks is a top manager;but you will be pleased to note that Phils poll today has over 80% still supporting the scouser.Surprising considering postings on here.
Have never seen Ipswich outplayed so often in the 50 years have been following them apart from under Jackie Milburn and George Burley when Town were in top division.
Apart from 1 purchase each from Non-league,lower league,Championship and Prem;PJ has signed 6 players who were free agents not wanted by other clubs. He had been out of management for a couple of years, and I believe both his first team coaches were also unemployed before he brought them to Ipswich;so it is no surprise that the club is in such a dire situation and looking like being relegation candidates for the second year running.

I am sick to death of people going on about clegg!!!

Can someone please tell me how clegg has got anything to do with the recent poor run of form?? Yes he may have wrongly got involved with the transfer deals last season but He took a back seat this time around to let PJ sort it And he can't be blamed for appointing PJ, ME is the man at the top and it would of been his final decision to appoint PJ.

We all come on this site because we love ITFC they are our team and i think us supporters are the only people who can get our great club out of this mess.
The Manager does not seem to be able motivate these spineless players we have at our club at present, so we must do it starting on Saturday by making plenty of noise and really getting behind the Town for 90 minutes win or loose.
If this does not get a response from the players we will know they are only here for the fat pay cheques and have no pride to wear the shirt, and we are going down.

This club has been on a downward spiral since Mr Evans arrived however much we consider he pulled us out of the mire. The soul has gone and over the period of his reign so have many good people who were fundamental to the success from the bottom up . David Sheepshanks ,Bryan Klug,Tony Humes, Richard Hall ,Steve Greaves to name but a few all for no good reason other than an a new old boys network at that particular time and nothing to do with their ability. These were Town through and through and were nationally renowned in their fields .None of us would even know the current owner if he passed us in the street or sat next to him in the stands. That cant be right. The Manager hands out contracts to players who are blantantly not good enough and lets people go who are. The fans are the important people its our club and we would like it back in the hands of people who love it like we do!

Well here we are again proping up the champoinship table look at relegation dispite the hype and the "big" name signings....so whats wrong with the Town?? is it all Paul Jewel s cauaual Swank when addressing the players and his treatment of the like of Priskin in front of the press along with other things that he might be able to hide from us I would for one like to see him throw his toys out of the pram and lay into these Journey men looking at the payrole /bank balance talk this is not Ipswich Town
We need hungry players who want to be with us and show it on the field a manager has to inspire that in the players not winge on the side line theres nothing heroic about taking the can for your team just plain stupidity kick there Ar*e get them in to shape nock some heads and above all make the fans believe in you and your team because Mr Jewel Ipswich Town fans have enoguh to deal with Norwich flying in the Premier we cant even tie our boots up enough is enough Three games turn it around otherwise its thanks but no thanks .....
