Clegg: Jewell Still Has Owner's Backing
Clegg: Jewell Still Has Owner's Backing
Wednesday, 30th Nov 2011 10:37

Town chief executive Simon Clegg says he and club owner Marcus Evans still have confidence in manager Paul Jewell despite the Blues’ run of six successive defeats, the latest last night’s 4-0 thrashing at Burnley.

Clegg said: "Marcus has still got huge confidence in the manager and that he can turn this around.

"We're all devastated,” he continued. “This is a really poor run of games we're on at the moment.

"Let's not forget we had a good run only about five weeks ago. I am convinced we've got the right players to turn this around.

"And if anyone can do it, Paul Jewell can. I've still got a lot of confidence in Paul Jewell. I think he's a top manager.

"It's not a comfortable time at the moment. And all I can do is assure all our loyal fans that every effort is being made to turn this around quickly."

Its Deja Vu from this time last season. Firstly the bad run, secondly "I have a good relationship with the manager, we share the same goal". Then Clegg saying "We have faith in Jewell". Keane was given till after Christmas to sort it out, he didn't and got the boot. I suspect Jewell will get the same treatment.

these people are going to bankrupt themselves taking our team out of the league as opposed to the other multi millionaires who bankrupt themselves taking their teams up

I'm going to continue to support PJ, as long as he brings in the young players.
Even if Jewell was to be sacked, would a new manager get any better out of these arrogant, overpaid grasping players who I just do not identify with as a proud Ipswich fan.
I would reluctantly let Stockdale and Collins go back to Fulham and Stoke. I would excempt them from the above comments, but they are not going to sign long term so I would let them go back.
We aren't going to sign Andrews, so he could go back, and I'm not sorry about that.
Bowyer and Ingarmarrson have been massive disapointments and wouldn't have them near the 1st team at the moment.
And it seems Hull fans were right about Bullard, I just hope he comes good and we don't end up in the same position as Hull were with him.
Don't get me started about JET!!!
I would only perservere with Sonko, and maybe make him captain.
Bring in Cropper in goal, recall Peters, Drury, Murray and O'Connor from their loans, Bring in Hyam into midfield and mix these together with Cresswell, Leadbitter, Martin, Carson, Edwards and Smith or Ainsley, and I would back this team all the way, even if we went down.
I'm dissullisioned with the players, not PJ. I know he brought them, but they are letting us all down, and don't deserve to wear our proud shirt.

PSGBlue- does ring similarities, doesn't it? Pj won't go yet, even if we lose on Saturday.
On the football side, can't believe how bad we were against Burnley. The footballing skills of our professionals are an absolute disgrace. ALB played the best I have ever seen him and we lost 4-0. At times it was a joke as we were so overrun. If it had been a boxing match it would have been a lightweight against a brutal heavyweight. Disgraceful performance again, and fed up of saying it. Most of our players are not fit to wear their shirts.

6 losses on the trot, the sixth being a total thrashing. Its no wonder that Clegg has spoken up to publicly defend his manager.
Love the way people here automatically think it's Jewells fault. He has brought in Chopra, Stockdale, JET, Bullard, Bowyer, Cresswell. Now...lets be honest. How many of us would have signed these players PRE-SEASON (Without Hindsight..)?? The answer is most of us.
The rot goes MUCH deeper than Jewell. There is seriously something wrong with our club and unless you work at PR we simply don't know what it is.Getting rid of Jewell is no good.
On another subject, our goal difference is looking really, really bad. May well prove crucial later in the season. We ONLY NEED 3 TEAMS TO BE WORSE THAN US. Only 3, but GD may be significant. When we lose, we need to put up a fight and make sure its not 5/6-0..where's the spirit?
Not even going to talk about our defence. About as good as being in a gorilla suit on an ice skating ring. Appalling. I would be ashamed if I was one of our defenders. Clowns.

I think we can still make the play-offs.
Sonko is back, Superman will make a big difference. Watford aren't exactly Baracelona, are they? and we are at home. Will be a certain 3 points and then we can start making a drive for the play-offs.
Teams just been going through a rough patch. That's all. With PJ in charge everything will be fine I'm sure. Clegg supports him and he knows what he's talking about. If Clegg supports him, so do I

The simple answer is that if H32 and the likes who live in the past glory days and only want to watch if we are winning dont like it dont go , and let those of us who do want to go and support Ipswich go and pay our money hoping the club will turn it around ,but dont moan about us doing it as it makes you sound even more moronic than normal if that is possible

I have never seen so many posts clearly feeling is running high, talk of protests, everyone calling for a new manager you need to sit up and listen no bums on seats will bring a change when you are not making any money ME and that is where we are heading. People can take losses if you at least see a bit of guts and effort and progress but its not going to happen with this clown and his pensioners get rid of him its a shame he has saddled us with so many duffers on contracts he has done us well and truly if you dont get rid now we are finished still you wont care you will pull out and wave bye bye and clegg will take a nice pay out too sickening

All you people who want Jewell out: if he leaves we'll probably end up with Steve Bruce. Is that really what you want?

After reading all the above comments one thing is clear,WE FANS OWN OUR CLUB,no fans,no ITFC,no Evans,no Clegg,no Jewell,no players.
So my challenge to all the the fans who care is, how do we get our club back.

Love it - Surco72. I really dont see a boycott being a remotely sensible idea. Saying that, Jewell has made some horrible mistakes this season and I dont recall any team going up or doing anything noteworthy with so many loan players. The players and the supporters need to show commitment to the cause. Both have to be in place.

And here's another point. Even though many of us welcomed BFJ, Magic, then Keane and now Jewell as messiahs - what on earth have any of them gone on to do? Not exactly a ringing endorsement of their management prowess is it...

It may not be the right time to change manager but is sure as hell is time for the manager to change his ideas, he needs to drop the underperformers, Bowyer and Bullard, give Joe Wight and Hyam a go, recall Murray and O'Connor and play them together with Carson, tell Collins and Andrews to either sign or let them go back and see how we go until Jan, then get round League 1 and 2 and find some youngsters with a bit of drive, pace and enthusiasm, because this showe have none

The trouble is, even if and its a big IF, we get back to winning ways (always a pleasure to have one of our bogeys side up next) we are clearly so terribly inconsistent that we could be in purple patches and out of them very quickly. There is such a bad vibe and I am shocked at the behaviour of Jewell and his clear lack of any understanding about any of his players. I run a Youth Team and know more about my players after one hour of training and a warm up pre a game than Jewell does and he has them all week. For me, he is a clown and is hoping that things will surely turn around. It does not look very likely Mr Jewell and as for Clegg, he is also so head in the clouds that the quicker he goes too, the better. Rant over, feel better now

Bring in Bobble as CEO and bluelady as Jewell's number 2. She would get rid of him.

It makes a welcome change not to see Leadbitter being slagged off by every moron on this site. It was no coincidence that his absence coincided with one of the most inept, gutless performances by a Town team for a long time.Take note all you self acclaimed football experts !
