Cresswell Says Sorry For Burnley Mauling
Cresswell Says Sorry For Burnley Mauling
Friday, 2nd Dec 2011 12:52

Town star Aaron Cresswell has apologised to supporters for the midweek mauling at Burnley that caused under-fire boss Paul Jewell to let rip at his under-performing side.

Left-back Cresswell also agreed that Jewell’s after-match assessment — he labelled his players spineless, gutless and like a pub team — was 100 per cent fair.

The 21-year-old summer recruit from Tranmere said: “The gaffer was spot-on. We were like a pub team and it wasn’t acceptable. We were a shambles and we have got to get ourselves out of this sticky patch as soon as possible.

“We know we haven’t been at the races for the past few weeks but we must try to stay positive. We can’t all be down in the dumps.”

Cresswell turned his attention to Saturday’s home clash with Watford and admitted: “It is a massive game and one we must try to make sure we win.

“A win would be great because we need to start putting wins on the board, get out of the rut we find ourselves in and climb away from the bottom of the table.

“The manager has been positive in training since the game at Burnley and we need to take that into the game.

“We are still the same team who went to West Ham and won, and enjoyed a six-game unbeaten run. When I signed for Ipswich I never saw this coming but I don’t think anyone did.”

Meanwhile, Watford's former Town academy schoolboy keeper Scott Loach says he's looking forward to returning to Suffolk: "It was Ipswich where my goalkeeping education started and I'll always be grateful to the club for that.

"Working under people like Malcolm Webster and also Jim Hollman, I learnt such a lot about goalkeeping.

"I've always been an Ipswich supporter as it's the club I grew up with.

"Richard Wright was my hero at the time, I always looked up to him as a fellow keeper, but I enjoyed watching the likes of Alex Mathie, James Scowcroft and Matt Holland."

So Cresswell becomes the latest player wheeled out to feed us a few cliches. Good education for the lad I suppose...

It's nice to see Cresswell speaking to fans, and he talks a lot of sense. We need more like him, young, hungry players that will be our future. I hope the scouting has been paying off and that we get some new signings in January, spending out transfer fees if need be to get the right players in. We cannot afford to sink to League One, so please back the manager Mr Evans by providing some funds.

At last some accountability from one of the players, surprised that no senior players have had the balls to man up and apologize to the supporters.
Onwards & upwards.

How nice of the more established members of the squad to send poor Cresswell out to apologise on their behalf. Or maybe they don't care?

Where is Republic of Ireland international and captain on the night Keith Andrews? What about Bowyer, Bullard or Edwards? The more senior pros should be called to account by the press/fans for this abysmal run - more so than our up and coming left back who's been arguably our player of the season.

Seems the watford goalie is more of an Ipswich player than most of this team.

I'm sure they'll all talk this talk, but we'll see what happens when they have the first set back tomorrow--will they respond positively or run away and hide?

ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL!!
The senior players should hang there heads in shame at this statement. Firstly just the content of the statement, coming from a teammate telling them they wern't good enough. But the thing i find the most disgusting is Aaron Cresswell coming out and saying this. It should be one of the senior players. Leadbitter, Andrews, Bullard, Chopra, Bowyer, Ingimarsson? Instead of stepping up to the plate and accepting responsibility for themselves they get one of the young lads to go out and do the dirty work for them, absolutely disgraceful.

However, fair play to Cressy for coming out and saying this. Sounds a very mature lad and is a fantastic player who we need to hold on to. However, Aaron at a young age shouldn't be made to do this sort of thing. It should be a senior pro.

Great video of Loach. Why aren't more/all footballers like this, genuinely feel lucky to be where they are and not be so arrogant about it? Sign him up!

Too right they should apologise. Now lets get behind them again. If they dont show some spine & heart tomorrow then not many of them should pull on the jersey again.

Last season and close season bullard was always vocal, now he is just sitting back and grabbing the pennies... we can't blame jewell for that a majority were desperate to bring back jimmy, hardly going to make player of the season this year is he!!

UsualSuspect: I'm not surprised that we hav'nt heard from our senior players and to be honest after the last shambolic performance I don't care what they have to say.People are calling Watford a bogey team, well at the moment aren't they all.Cresswell won't leave because he is one of about 3 players who actually play whole heartedly for us and give a crap and loach would be the answer to our goal keeping worries.

Mr Loach if you are such an Ipswich fan a few howlers on your part wouldnt go amiss tomorrow or a clumsy penalty challenge ,that would involve us having a shot on target and being near the Watford area though !!
Well said Mr Cresswell as you were turned inside out on a number of occassions on Tuesday night ,make up for it tomorrow

WE SHOULDNT HAVE TO SEND OUT OUR KIDS FOR APOLOGIES TO OUR FANS.

Some of the "experienced" players should be heading out there or the captain.

Fair play to cressy, i really do like this lad, it seems like he is hurting!

Couldn't agree with alex1234 any more. Where are the experienced senior journeymen that we so many of ? Come on show some integrity and stand up. Don't leave it to the youngsters to show you how you should behave.

Well said anyway Aaron !

Congratulations to the senior players at this club for justifying the critical comments they have received over the last few weeks. How dare they leave it to a young player, who has been one of the few rays of hope in this season so far, to apologise for their pathetic displays and disgusting attitude they have shown to the club, manager and fans. When a 21 year old shows you how to play the game and that fans and management deserve respect it really is time to give up the game.

After the 7-1 humiliation at Peterboro' Kennedy said they all needed to have a long hard look at themselves. Too many players here either don't give a damn or think they are bigger than the club (Creswell being an exception). Bullard, Bowyer, Leadbetter - their silence should be noted.

Jewell seems to operate on the basis that we'll get nowhere with kids. Well Paul, you get nowhere with bums either and unless and until you face these bums down and get the rotton core out of the squad you are assembling, I for one can't support your position at the club.

What a load of tosh you lot are spouting. Had one of the senior players put his head up, the same ones of you would have said: what a load of rubbish, same old comments, how dare he/they grovel etc etc.

Nothing gets reported at the moment without a load of negatives being posted on here.

Get a life folks, all real ITFC supporters are extremely disappointed with current performances but negative comments on here help no one. Except perhaps it makes the 'comment poster' feel better!

I don't care. Too much talk not enough action. They're paid to play, not talk. Talk is cheap. They have a chance to redeem themselves in part against Watford. Let us see if they take it or instead skulk back wringing their hands with excuses. Whether PJ is any good as a manager I don't know, but I do know that once on the pitch everything is down to the players. They are professionals. They shouldn't need to be told how not to get tonked. Pride alone should stop that happening week after week.

I'm glad one of the players has finally come out. I'd have liked to have seen someone who actually has been playing poorly to apologise, but agree with alfromcol, none of you would have accepted an apology from Bullard or Bowyer. I guess the best thing they can do for a fans is put in a proper shift for us on Saturday!

Everyone stop moaning and get behind team tomorrow and get us on a good run.

Plus there is a good chance we will loose our Prem record defeat tomorrow when scum get tanked at Man City.

Always look on the bright side.
