Town Eyeing Norwich Striker
Town Eyeing Norwich Striker

Norwich City striker Aaron Wilbraham is understood to be on Paul Jewell’s list of potential January signings. The 32-year-old frontman has rarely been used since joining the Canaries a year ago from the MK Dons for an undisclosed fee reported to be £75,000.

While the Knutsford-born player doesn’t appear to be in line with manager Paul Jewell’s stated aim of bringing in younger players during this transfer window, the Blues appear short of a big striker in the mould of 6ft 3in tall Wilbraham, who is likely to be available for a nominal fee with his contract up in the summer.

After a spell in Manchester City’s youth set-up, Wilbraham began his senior career with Stockport, going out on loan to Moss FK in Norway during seven years at Edgeley Park, prior to a £100,000 July 2004 switch to Hull City.

After failing to nail down a place in a year with the Tigers, including a month on loan at Oldham, Wilbraham moved on to the MK Dons on a free transfer the following summer.

Following a spell on loan at Bradford in the 2005/06 campaign, Wilbraham helped his parent side to the 2007/08 League Two title.

A record of 57 goals in 153 starts and 43 sub appearances for the Dons, for whom he also played in central midfield, led to his switch to Norwich.

However, the man nicknamed ‘Alby’ has made only seven starts and nine sub appearances since moving to Norfolk, including today’s FA Cup victory over Burnley, netting once.

Town are also understood to have been monitoring Canaries midfielder Andrew Crofts this season, however, with the Welshman having kept his place in the Norwich side since their promotion, a move for the 27-year-old looks unlikely.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has been looking for a holding midfielder in the style of Crofts since the summer.

Meanwhile, Town representatives have been spotted at Luton recently, running the rule over left winger or left-back Jake Howells, who was previously linked in April.

The 20-year-old Hemel Hempstead-born Wales U21 international is out of contract at the end of the season.

I do not think CLEG, ME, or JEWELL read these comments and all the nice things being said about then? I would like to invite them to read them, and then put their reply's down for all to see. It may open their eyes to find out that we accuse them of destroying our club. They will be held accountable for their actions or the lack of them? Why dont they start to put things right We will help them if they ask but we know they will not listen to us. So i fear the worst for our club....... RIP

I rarely comment on these posts as I use the site for news, generally there is a lot of negativity that has started to make me resent the Ipswich fans over the last few years. This is not aimed at anyone personally but going to the football is becoming far less enjoyable. I understand why there is so much moaning because people have had enough and don't want to see Ipswich go the way of Sheff Utd for example. Who wants to aim for mid table obscurity which would be a light relief at the moment.

I don't recognise the football club anymore, the way we play, the old has-beens, the dire atmosphere etc etc.. The final straw would be if we signed a Norwich player, even if he was good I wouldn't want him. It is a matter of principal to me, Iove Ipswich / hate Norwich, this is the way things have been since I began going to Portman Road, and if I want to cut off my nose to spite my face then I will.

We need a catalyst for change, whether that is a turn around on the pitch or a change at the top I don't care. I have no problem with PJ and will support him while he is in the post but I can't see the change happening on the pitch!!

Tear your ticket up and no one will notice it's already paid for. Smacks a bit of shooting yourself in the foot!!

Don't buy one next year - now there is an idea!

Are Jewell and Clegg secret Norwich shareholders trying to punish the ITFC fans week after week?
Its like watching the 'baddies' on a soap opera week after week getting away with unacceptable behaviour yet nothing is done while we are all shouting at the TV 'Can't you see what is happening.Someone sort these guys out '
Are you listening ME. I doubt it.......
Hate to say this but in retrospect wish we'd lost to Barnsley so this clown would probably have gone and possibly with Clegg to.

alfromcol - don't be smug with your comments - enough people will already not be renewing next season without you suggesting it. And you can't blame them either.

If that happens i will be personally go down to portman road and shoot Paul Jewell in the face, would be an utterly dreadful signing which unfortunately, probably makes it a realistic one under Jewell. Get him out now and get Neil Warnock in!!

This really is laughable. We have some good strikers at the club its getting them the ball we cant do - loan, 32, striker. Paul seriously you need to listen to yourself and act on this. We need 3 permananet young defenders before you go wasting any more of our money.
