Chopra Nominated for Award
Tuesday, 17th Jan 2012 11:39

Town striker Michael Chopra has been nominated for the Player of the Year gong at the Asian Football Awards, which are being held for the first time on January 24th at Wembley Stadium.

The Blues striker faces competition from Zesh Rehman (Kitchee SC - Hong Kong), Anwar Uddin (Barnet), Indy Aujla (RRFC Montegnee - Belgium) and Netan Sansara (Paeek FC - Cyprus).

FA chairman David Bernstein says his organisation is fully behind the awards: "The FA is committed to diversity and inclusion across all areas of the game and I'm delighted that the Asian football community are celebrating their achievements at Wembley Stadium.”

In response to some of the above comments it doesn't show anything about Asian football but it does about the lack of Asian players who have come over to play in Europe.

Personally I think Asia is a huge and largely untapped resource.

[Some of] our fans are truely awful aren't they? Attendances plummet when we start losing, we're nearly always out-sung by the away fans and internet message boards and filled with moaning, whining and criticism.

One of our players is up for an award. Does no one want him to win it?

I hope he wins it. Regardless of whether you think it's self-inflicted or not, he's had an awful few months and maybe winning would boost his confidence, possibly clawing back some of his form he's lost recently. We could do with an on-form Michael Chopra.

I'm not too sure about this award as there appears to be some massive oversights considering half the S Korean side, Kagawa at CSKA Moscow, Al Habsi to name just a few off the top of my head.

Also, how does a player which does not wish to be considered for selection for a national team in Asia, which he qualifies only via parentage, be considered for this award? I've probably spent more time in Asia than him in the last 5 years!

Finally, how does Rehman, one of the worst defenders seen in the English league get considered for this award?

Rant over, good luck Chops, anything which could boost your confidence is bound to be worth something!

Must be based on his Cardiff performances.

Good Luck porky chops.

Over comming your demons is never easy and it is going to take the all of his will to defeat them.

At the same time i feel the fans should get behind him and show him sort of support i know Ipswich fans can give.

I hope this award restores some confidance in Chops and i have full faith he will find his form again in no time.

@backinbeige...
Totally agree - fact is so many Town fans are only happy when they're miserable and having a moan. It doesn't stop there either, as so many are just very reserved, quiet people. I watched the Blackpool game from the Britannia stand - first time I've been in it for years. Great view but it was so embarrassingly quiet. When we scored I jumped out of my seat only to find everyone around me was still sitting down. Little vocal support. No characters just quiet people. I don't understand why there are there....

Tractorboy24.

Kagawa plays for Dortmund, I think you're referring to Keisuke Honda, who plays for CSKA.

What did he have to, put his kit on the right way round? What a joke of an award, but i agree anything that can put a smile on his face and give him a boost is worth having!

That's the one, cheers Nunny, but that then compounds how questionable this award is the fact there is a player which won their domestic league that appears to have not been considered.
