Bullard in China Shop Window?
Bullard in China Shop Window?

Town midfielder Jimmy Bullard is reported to be attracting interest from two top Chinese clubs. The 33-year-old, who has another year left on his contract, had a disappointing first full season with the Blues in 2011/12 having been named the club’s Player of the Year after his half-season loan spell during the previous campaign.

The Chinese sides are said to have made contact with the former Wigan, Hull, Fulham and Peterborough man, but Bullard’s agent Simon Dent says his player is currently concentrating on getting fit for the new season with Town: "Jimmy is looking forward to having his first full pre-season and is fully focused on the new campaign."

Fair enough PJ.

Bullard will do an amazing job for us next season. Otherwise he has no pride or self esteem and I can't imagine that someone who does as much blow as him would be that wasteful. Oh maybe he will do it to us again...

I have faith. In jimmy I trust.

nice one Phil! I was pleased to see J B join Town but think last season was very disapointing ,and unfortunately cant see any dramatic improvement happening now .Its a pity but being realistic i think he has had his day with ITFC.

He's had an average-poor 6 months, well not even that.

He didn't play from January onwards, which is fair enough as our once fringe players were performing superbly, but he didn't get a chance to see show us what he could do.

Here's what has ACTUALLY happened since he arrived.

He joined at the end of August, making his 'debut' coming on against Leeds. As soon as that happened we started to pass the ball. We won that game.

Bar Blackpool, the month of September, and through to mid October was arguably our most impressive spell of the season, with Bullard at the heart, pulling the strings, most impressive possibly away to Boro and West Ham (their fans said as much).

The diamond eventually went to sh*t. Teams worked us out and put a man on him every game. He was pretty knackered from that point onwards. Jewell's mistake was having a bit too much faith in his originally effective formation.

Bullard made his last start at Burnley at the end of November. Since then the only appearances he has made have been as a substitute coming on in the final stages of games in the Martin role simply to close down the opposition defence. How is he meant to prove himself doing that?

If Bullard leaves, who do we have in the way of creative options in our squad? Drury. I don't think Stevenson will control games from midfield do you?

I'd be gutted to see him leave. You don't lose all that talent in 6 months.

Put him in his rightful position and he could shine. Pair him with a Hyam type in central midfield in this 4-2-3-1 we've got going on would be my shout. Martin ahead of them, that's exciting.

Andrews' goals were invaluable, but I wouldn't be too bothered about getting him back. Very one dimensional in my opinion, you'd have to make him go forward to get goals , so he's not going to sit and break up play, and equally I don't think he'll give you much in the way of creativity. Give me Drury any day. Chances of him coming back are very slim anyway and I'm not sure PJ would go for him so I don't know why we're talking about him.

yorks, Hargreaves is a great player, remember when he changed Englands fortunes when he came in during the 06 World Cup, problem is he's always injured and he's obviously not coming to a club like ours.

Realistically though, I can't say I have the answer, but we'd need someone else lined up if Jimmy goes, all I know is I'm not keen on Andrews, but it's just a personal opinion.

I still think the MLS is the place for Jimmy. He'd do well there. (But, yes, please do leave...)

Just get rid. If these clubs are willing to pay a fee then even better. A no-brainer if you ask me.

The man is a waster. His behaviour has been poor, his work ethic questionable, and his wages too high. Plus he's not getting any younger and his best days are well behind him.

Bullard is simply not worth the money and the hassle for the odd moment of brilliance. Free up the wages and bring in a couple of younger players who actually want to give their all for the club.

Im gunna keep this short and simple. we shud be building a team around jimmy bullard, not listening to utter nonsense about getting rid of him. the man is pure class for championship level.

Send him out there on the next clipper. Terrible signing in the first place.

Brilliant, let's get rid of one of our few class players for our top six promotion push next season.
BTW saw PJ in M&S getting a refund on a pair of slippers.

Tough one this, if jimmy comes back fit for the new season and concentrates on his football, then we have a great player for the team. But if he continues where he left off last season, then what a waste of wages which could be used on probably 2 decent new players. As he hardly played in the second half of last season, I think if someone did come in for him, the club will sell.

I will - unusually - agree with Walberswick on this one. A (mentally and physically) fit and fully-firing Bullard would be an enormous asset to the team and we'd be foolish to simply discard him.

Have a feeling JB will have a terrific season.

With his head in the right place he is the most creative player on the ITFC books, getting rid would be a mistake I don`t expect PJ to make.

He has far more important decisions to make, the most pressing to replace the inept players we have in central defence and finding a decent keeper.

Will we get a fit and focused Bullard though? As to Andrews I was a fan but just don't think we need him (or Robertson). Drury a better option along with Hyam. More importantly...centre backs and goalie??

Ozzydog :- Agree ! I also think he'll have a good season, if only for the fact that this is the final year on his contract. We all know his abilities. I'm pro Jimmy, but when his ' Social ' side of life takes president over his club life, then he is the luxury we cannot afford. Having said that, wouldn't it be great to see him turn up for pre season training raring to go, let's hope he does.

well for me like alot on here has said, we all no jimmy has the tools in his locker its just a matter of playing him in his rightfull postion and build the team around him for the season and then bring in his replacement, trouble with last season he was out of postion and now that the main man of us being cr@p is gone eg leadboots then we should be able to move forward in the midfield dept, eg alot last year we was like alot of teams in the championship and premier ship and just like england the other day, playing football like pre sex, eg loads of foreplay and no penatration, untill we brought on theo walcot, well the same can be said here,

look what happened when leadboots got injured, hyam and drury came in martin just behind chops and bingo we started playing with urgancy and had penatration and some quality balls were coming into the box,

thats why i still believe that a midfield 5 of jet/ carson on the right with drury/hyam bullard then jet/carson on the left with martin ahead of them

keep swapping carson and jet from flank to flank, just to pee the oppostion off and then feed then so the can bomb down the wings, we just dont do that eniough,

but in all this we need bullard if he plays to his talants, because to me even if he is coasting along he is still better than leadboots, bower when they are at there best, and no one can deny that, but we will see, i think we have more than enough midfielders, its the GK the CB and another forward we need desperatly , edwards can cover right back untill elloit is fit, which sounds good, dont no about the french bloke though, as to me that dont sound to promising atm, he has been a journey man and only 19 hmmmmmm

On his day a quality player, even too good for the championship.
I'm not sure however we can fit 2 mavericks of this kind in the same side, with JET as well. On our day, players like this may turn a routine 2-0 home win into a 5-0 win. Entertaining on the day,but what you'd call fair weather players or luxuries who will dispear when we need to dig in when the chips are down.
I love Jimmy but we need to toughen up in the central areas, and compete with all teams physically and his lifestyle, temperement and knee won't stand up to 40+ games at this level anymore.
I think the game has changed from when your playmaker, can move back in like a sweeper or central defensive role, like Guillit or Hoddle did.
Like above,it would be great if he reported for pre-season raring to go,with his head screwed on,but I hope PJ is clear on his formations and doesn't build his team around certain players. The diamond was used to accomodate Leadbitter,Bullard,Andrews and Bowyer. For example, if we play 4-4-2, can Jimmy hold his own in a central midfield 2? PJ would probably have to play 3 in there, and then we are short somewhere else on the pitch.
I think there is slightly more in favour of letting him go,if the story is true.
Also I know he is good for the dressing room etc etc,but with PJ going for younger players,is Bullard the right kind of senior pro to help these lads along the right path?

@ hogster1970 - What were you doing or dreaming about last night? lol. Totally agree we need a goalie and preferably two right sided centre backs. We were pretty good going forward last season just need to concede about 30 fewer goals!

buryblue77 added 09:32 - Jun 17
ericgates, you make a very good point about Jimmy and the youth, PJ will have to find disciplinary measures for the whole team after he takes them all out on a session in Newcastle!

I think the issue with Jimmy in a midfield 2 is also a correct one to raise, I think many clubs in The Championship are still playing (a variations of) 442, not many top teams tend to play this anymore, but I'm not sure a 433, which tends to be the preferred formation would suit players like Martin, Bullard though would (on form) excel in that system I feel.

You say you don't want Andrews as he was part of the 7-1 defeat. Wasn't the majority of our team involved? So if you are going with that policy we should release everyone and start again?

hogster1970 added 10:35 - Jun 17
blleding blue totaly agrrem we was only realy good going forward when leadboots wasnt in the team, and the defence tightened up because the midfield work hard at chassing down the ball and turning there attack in to ours, we conceded most of our worse goals when the midfield didnt do this, leaving all the pressure on a allready dodgy back 4, you can have the best back 4 in thw world but if the midfield doesnt work then you will evently always concead goals and you wont score many neither, but we do despratly need that commander of a right center back to compliment smith or delany preferlaby smith, as i think this year if we find this center half would be a great season for them
