Interviews Taking Place
Tuesday, 30th Oct 2012 11:38

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has confirmed that he and owner Marcus Evans have drawn up their shortlist and that interviews with those candidates are currently taking place.

Clegg told the club site that Town had received a large amount of interest from both home and abroad: “We received a number of applications for the manager’s position from many well respected names in football.

“Having sifted through the applicants, we have now drawn up our shortlist and interviews are under way.”

Former Wolves, Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Millwall boss Mick McCarthy is the leading contender and strong favourite - betting has been suspended by some bookies - to take over from Paul Jewell, who left by mutual agreement last week, but we understand the appointment is by no means yet a fait accompli.

Ex-Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley is understood to be interested in the role and former England skipper Alan Shearer was spoken to last week, while Blackpool manager Ian Holloway was linked over the weekend.

I would have loved to have seen the final shortlist (and whether they've made their minds up even before interview). Will there be a surprise performance in the interview that sways them away from the favourite (a la Magilton, if my memory serves me correctly?).

And slightly off topic, but Clegg looks more like Father Jack by the day...

Is it possible that Mr Clegg knows the actual situation better than press people?

Perhaps a coup d'etat should be initiated, as clearly Mick would be a tour de force.

What do you think Phil?

This should have been sorted during the international break.
Would have been better if the new manager had a few days with the players prior to saturdays game.

Like any appointment in any job, there are certain privacy issues to take into account. Also, given that like any process it should be fair and open competition, what's the point of saying Mick McCarthy is who we want but we'll interview the rest anyway. Not good practise. Let's hope the appointment is made soon, but let's allow due process to take place - I think it's vitally important to ensure that all suitable candidates are given the chance to impress. I assume that although they will have preferences, anyone being interviewed having not been sifted out is worthy of an interview and is a possible option. Then it will come down to the interesting part - the contract..... a subject that we don't seem to be too hot on.

Looking forward to seeing us win at Birmingham on Saturday - under a new manager. Come on you blues!

Obviously there was no planned replacement for PJ. It is important we get the right person this time, as they say marry in haste, repent in leisure!!

Various odds on McCarthy 1/5, 1/6, 1/10 but Stan James has McCarthy at...1/16! (According to oddschecker)
Other than that Holloway looks like the only other with a shout at 3/1 and 5/1!
The bookies rarely get things wrong but all this means nowt until a contract is signed though, simple as that.
It's like waiting for Christmas day when you were five! Hahaha!
