Smith in Team of the Week
Monday, 4th Feb 2013 17:07
Centre-half Tommy Smith has been named in this week’s Football League Championship Team of the Week after his two-goal display in the Blues’ 4-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Portman Road on Saturday. Several other players with Town connections, including Smith’s close friend Jordan Rhodes, are also named in the select XI.
Rhodes, who is set to face his old club and Smith for the first time when the Blues travel to Blackburn next Saturday, scored twice as Rovers beat Bristol City 2-0.
Right-back Bradley Orr, who is also set to come up against Town next week having recently returned to Ewood Park, is also named, as is another ex-loanee David Stockdale, who is now with Hull for another temporary spell.
Derby central defender Richard Keogh is a former Town academy schoolboy and ballboy.
Team of the Week: David Stockdale (Hull City), Bradley Orr (Blackburn), Richard Keogh (Derby), Tommy Smith (Town), Andrew Taylor (Cardiff),
Chris Burke (Birmingham), Craig Bryson (Derby), Almen Abdi (Watford), Tommy Rowe (Peterborough), Jordan Rhodes (Blackburn), Glenn Murray (Crystal Palace).

I have to say despite having doubts about smith earlier this season he has worked his cottons off this year both for us and His country; well deserved award for him and Rhodes

no surprise, Rock on Tommy!

I think he is a confidence player - he has played well in the past next to good CB's (Nelson in the World Cup) - if he and Chambers can forge a good partnership then it can only be for the benefit of the club

Hands up as I was a Smith doubter but has been imense and this has to be down to Mick & Terry's management. Well done Tommy.
Would love to see one of our players be in team of the week every week.

Wow just look at that 4 out of the 11 in team of the week have played for us in the not to distant past, if only they were all current players we would be at the other end of the table.

Well done Tommy, thoroughly deserved.

Totally agree. I was one of his biggest critics but he's come on leaps and bounds this season! Doesn't stop me thinking how bad it could be playing against Rhodes and DJ (if he joins on energency loan) next week though.

Well done Tommy, you are now looking the real deal, magnificent headed goals on Saturday, especially the second.

I'm absolutely delighted for him. His goal scoring record is now better than 1 in 10 and Smith is playing well all round. Well done, Tommy.

alot of them are 'ipswich-relaed' david stockdale, once here at town, tommy smith of course, bradley orr, richard keogh was heavily linked with us, and jordan rhodes! bit random, but yeah! anyway, well done tommy, thouroihgly deserved, and hope he can come on to great things at this club! great result boys, COYB!!

I doubted whether he wd come good but both he and chambers hve bin top drawer lately! The reason why-MM. Mick has got inside his head and as an ex defender he has given him the belief to kick on. Also he lets players hve a run if games without constantly breaking up partnerships something the previous two incumbents couldn't resist! Well done tommy, keep it up and u will nail yr place dwn for years to come and be captain

Well done Tommy..really really chuffed that he's finally establishing himself in our 1st team after a few rocky spells here and there..we need to build our club on the backs of guys like this - the way we used to do.

I was another major doubter of his ability to perform week in week out at this level. Let's hope he keeps it up and that we can build the team around players like him. Future ITFC/New Zealand skipper?

well done Tommy u have worked hard and partnership with Chambers is lookin consistent each week its good to see defenders score now and again but 2 in one match has this been achieved b4 by town player cmon midfield few more goals and we b soarin up the table

delighted for Tommy has been fantastic and vastly improved. Keep it going my son we have been crying out loud for a commanding center half for years and we have one and from our academy too.

Am delighted to be in the "I told you so" brigade on this matter. The only thing Tommy Smith needed was a manager to believe in him, and thank god we have that now, as without him and MM, we would be sitting below peterboro right now.
Have even begun to sing Tommy's praises during matches these days - now that is confidence!
