McCarthy Praise for Consistent Evans
Tuesday, 23rd Apr 2013 06:00

Blues boss Mick McCarthy has praised owner Marcus Evans for his consistency during Town’s climb away from relegation danger since the former Ireland manager took over at Portman Road in November.

The Town boss says the two talk often: “I speak to him regularly. Marcus has been exactly the same from day one to today. He has never changed.

“His demeanour towards me, win, lose or draw, to the position that we are in the league - don’t get me wrong, he’s pleased and happy — [hasn’t changed] and that’s been lovely to deal with.

“Not up one minute, lose, down the next. He’s fantastic. He’s got a great personality for it, a great demeanour for it, I think.”

Every manager we have had has praised Marcus Evans, every behind-the scenes figure has priased Marcus Evans- he has always backed, he has been a very patient man- more patient than most of us!- so I think we can forgive him his shyness of the camera.
We are lucky to have him.

Yep, contrast Evans to some of the interfering owners of some clubs in it to raise their own profile and for their own egos!

No sane man would do anything but praise their boss in public.

No sane man, and even the arguably insane....I'm sure Roy Keane praised him highly too.

I wouldnt exactly call Roy Keane sane, if anyone was ever going to slate Marcus Evens, he would most certainly have done so but alas he only had good words to say about the man.

As most our saying, although since ME took over, we have had nothing but bad times, it does not bear to think what could have happened if he had not invested in our great club. I guess, if he could turn back the clock, he would have changed a few decisions (and we all know what they are), but I believe like almost all supporters, that at last, he has got the main decision right. Thank you ME for keeping my club afloat, no matter at what expense, and here's hoping for an exciting next season.

@Radlett blue - McCarthy doesn't strike me as a sycophant.

No sane man would criticise his employer in public, but none of the managers had to praise him, so I reckon this is real.

You lot are all blinded by words look at the actions 2 of the worst managers in our history players with no morals brought into the club.
The club has gone nowhere for 4 years only backwards.
We now have debts of 80m and there have been nothing but cuts in staff the place is a mess.
Any of you who know anything about football knows there will be a clause in the ex managers contract not to critise him.
As for McCarthy anyone giving you a million no one in there right mind would critise the man paying it.
You so called fans should grow up and see what is really happeneng to this once great club EVANS OUT.................

Yes we are very lucky to have Marcus.

Please God we never end up in Blackburn or Portsmouth's situation.

Whether you like or not if you are not in the premier league you now need a wealthy backer to stay afloat it seems. There isn't the money in the game like there used to be and with the parachute payments for the relegated sides the league will be even harder to get out of.

I'm relieved and grateful we have someone like Evans at the club who isn't in it for the media attention or the glory. He bought the club with a strategy to get us into the premier league, things didn't work out but he has spent wise money securing mick this season which has probably saved us. If his motivation is a profitable business then I'm pleased as he is a business man and reality is not some kind of nostalgic footballing dream land, it shouldn't be a criticism of him. Evans has backed every manager and continues to. I think we are lucky to have him at the club when you look at similar size clubs and what is happening to them.

Nowt wrong with ME accept error of judgement made with previous managerial choices.Guess we will never know, but I'am of the opinion that, Clegg swayed the owner on much about the football side of the club.Wish ME all the success with our club, and thank him for backing Ipswich, through these hard financial times.

bluey123 - ....... don't necessarily agree with your entire post - but can certainly see where you are coming from.
Some people are either incapable of, or choose not to, see anything below the surface - or other than what hits them in the eye.
Not sure that this so called 'fairytale' ownership will all end up a 'Bed of Roses' - give me ownership by some Good,Rich, Suffolk People any day - as it once rightly was.

Let us hope - it all works out though ........ for the best !!!!!

Some posts on here criticise Evans for our lack of success and to a point I agree. But had we not got his investment we would have almost certainly been a division lower at some point due to points deducted etc. His managerial appointments have been poor until MM, but when Keane and Jewell were appointed I seem to recall most supporters being relatively happy. When MM was appointed I remember a lot of negativity, and look what he's done!
But the biggest positive of all is that he doesn't interfere, just supports his manager until he feels it really is time to let him go. As others have said, look at Blackburn. Imagine if that lot had invested in us? Evans has sacked his manager at pretty much the right time (maybe Jewell a few weeks earlier, but no more than that).
I for one am thankful that we are a club that can compete without having massive parachute payments and are sensibly set up of the FFP rules. I dare say there will be some chairmen out there who are not.

agree with you i will always support the manager and players but have my doubts about evans.
why has he purchased the training ground?
why is he running a season ticket promotion for i think 3 years up front.
is he preparing to leave and take us back into administaration but asset strip us first.
he would not be the first chairman to do it in football would he.
it would be easier to trust him if you could see a motivation for him buying the club other than to find a way to profit.
he dosent want the publicity he is not a fan or football man so im not sure what the score is really.
hopefully everybody is right and he is just a really nice bloke looking to help us out.

If the man I worked for was preparing to write me a cheque for £1,000,000 on Saturday afternoon I would be saying nice things about him too. I think MM has worked wonders this season. I don't begrudge him a penny.

...... naivety pops up all too often unfortunately - or is it just a lack of common sense thinking amongst certain people ???

Mixed bag of comments on here!
Ok financally things not great, but could have been worse. Has backed managers with funds- including how many loan wages?- doesn't appear to interfere (how many other managers would love that?!) and has been patient with managers (and although not a football man himself does seem to take 'football' advice).
Although some on here are saying he wants to profit from ITFC then head off, surely if he gets Town into PL (would MM have come here if that wasn't on agenda?) then it will have been worth it?
