Evans's Sponsorship Continues
Monday, 20th May 2013 18:36

Town’s shirts will bear the name 'Marcus Evans' once again next season with the club’s owner extending his company’s sponsorship for a further season. The new home and away shirts upon which his logo will appear will be revealed later this week.

Joint-managing director Ian Milne told the club site that alternatives were explored but in the end the Blues’ owner decided to extend his previous five-year deal for an additional season: “Marcus’s initial shirt sponsorship agreement with the club was up at the end of 2012/13 but he had decided to extend that for another year.

“We did speak to a number of local and national companies regarding shirt sponsorship of Ipswich Town and there was interest.

“We could have pursued that further but Marcus is aware of the benefits of the sponsorship and is happy to continue with his name on the front of the shirts for next season.”

I hope Marcus Evans screwed Marcus Evans down to get every penny out of him.

I wonder how valuable it is to his company? Surely getting a national sponsor would of generated much more money for the club or more specifically him?

I'm not sure of the FFP implications, as might they not deem that Evans sponsorship is owner investment whereas a third party sponsor may could as external investment?

I don't mind the ME logo. It is white and grey, so preferable to a company who might want a red logo for example.

I hope we don't have additional sponsorship on the back or across the backside as that looks cheap and horrible.

i will always prefer this over the glut of money lending/gambling sponsors currently donning other club shirts.

Poor kit make in Mitre, terrible kit sponsor and logo. Suits the lower echelons of the Championship.

I'd heard we were thinking of Viagara for a sponsor as Town are clearly 'on the Up' once again!

Perhaps just perhaps it might be another way he could get more money in to the club , to help with the FFP rules ????? just a thought !!!!

Very clever move. No doubt Marcus Evans Ltd are (on paper at least) paying well over the asking rate for a shirt sponsor in this day and age. Lest we forget, they are a huge global company with a lot more investment power than some silly little sponsor like Wonga, Aviva or Jobserve.

As long as it's blue and we keep a fairly regular team so I don't have to keep racking my brains to think who that Number 39 or 46 we've signed on loan but only played once about six weeks ago is........I don't really care about what's on the front but I'd love to return to the days when all you saw on the back were the numbers 1-11, with number 12 coming on in the event of a player being concussed or breaking a leg ( although even then they sometimes saw the game out). Not QUITE accurate I know but not far off either.

Evans logo to continue? Quelle surprise. Be interesting to see what the new kit looks like though.

would love us if it were more possible to get to the division above for the sake of Marcus Evans....

......... just wonder how much interest in sponsorship there really was !! - they seemed very keen at one stage to acquire an outside main sponsor for this season .......

Mark - Better a red logo than a green and yellow one!

I have no problem at all with Marcus Evans having his name plastered across the front of our shirts, with all the money he has put in to our club he fully deserves to make the decision to do what he wants.
I also don't mind how the logo looks. I am just grateful we are not advertising either toilet rolls or Budgie seed!

I hope our new kit is better than the awful New England kit!

We didn't have any realistic interest with a sponsor therefore Marcus Evans had no choice but to sponsor us again. However, I'm quite leased with this as its better than some awful McDonald's or Wonga logo!

Maybe there's a loophole in the FFP where by doing this for another year he can give Mick a good budget and take a gamble on getting up next season. Let's say he sponsors Ipswich for 20 million but tells Mick he can only spend 10 million then club is being run within budget for season to meet FFP rules.

So it will be a new sponsor and kit manufacturer next year then. probably get more money from a sponsor next year with a new kit maker.

maybe they want to see out the last year with Mitre and then move to a new supplier with a new external sponsor.......

"Lest we forget, they are a huge global company with a lot more investment power than some silly little sponsor like Wonga, Aviva or Jobserve. "

What !

Aviva turned over £47 billion in 2010, Marcus Evans turnover was £12m which makes Aviva around 4,000 times bigger than ME

silly little sponsor ?
