Fulham Targeting JET
Friday, 31st May 2013 07:00

Premier League Fulham are keen to sign Blues midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in a swap deal which we understand would involve two of their young players moving in the opposite direction. The 22-year-old, who has a year left on his contract, was made available by Town boss Mick McCarthy at the end of the season.

The Cottagers, who were believed to have shown interest in the former Arsenal man last summer, are understood not to be offering any cash for the Londoner but two of their youngsters in a proposed swap deal.

Emmanuel-Thomas made 43 starts and 32 substitute appearances, scoring nine goals, after joining the Blues from the Gunners in the summer of 2011 for a fee which ultimately could have reached £2 million.

Town legend Brian Talbot, a Fulham scout, was a regular visitor to Portman Road during the second half of the season.

It won't be Stockdale. Fulham may need a keeper if Mark S is not resigned, and Stockdale may be first choice next season even if he does.

PS - I wouldnt mind Jesse Joronen as a young keeper in waiting...

I'd prefer two upwardly-mobile youngsters from the lower leagues (think Aaron Cresswell and Elliott Hewitt) rather than a couple of potentially big-headed youngsters from the Premier League.

Can anyone enlighten me why we are selling someone who will imminently be Prem quality? Fulham clearly think so. The primary objective in Championship management is to assemble players who are, or could become Prem quality. Selling JET is idiocy. ITFC since Nov comfortably made the playoffs. I was hoping this close season wouldn't involve the wholesale changes we've seen ever since Evans' arrival. Same old same old. I predict another unsettled start followed by yet another January of panic-recruitment.

Marcelo Trotta? As long as he doesn't take our penalties!

No thanks to trotta - watched him a couple of times last season. Think hes still a bit too raw to give us a few good seasons at championship level.

How much money is JET on is the question? There are lots of people on here saying don't do a deal for him but he's only got a year left on his contract, he could go for free after that and we've crucified Keane, Jewell and Clegg for allowing that to happen in recent years.

I think this is the right way to go. I assume JET is on good money so from a contractual and financial fair play point of view it makes sense. We have plenty of players in this position in the squad so that makes sense. We only ever get the of moment of brilliance in a season outweighed by a lot of lethargy so all round, although i agree with Surcos points, i think JET has had long enough to prove his worth and now hes out of time so we should cash in.

Seems like a good deal, Mick clearly doesn't rate JET and I'll trust his judgement, it's also worth remembering JET hardly featured in our run of good form since November.

Offer him a year extension with the intention of coaching him into the class act he could be. He's the only bit of quality in our squad.

Would take Kerim Frei and Alex Kacaniklic any day of the week! But still believe letting JET go is a mistake.

Cant remember us having swap deals since Sir Bob with Bobby Bell going to Blackburn Rovers in exchange for big Al and £60k,Rod Belfitt to Everton in exchange for David Johnson the 1st and £50k and best of the lot John Peddelty to Plymouth plus £150k approx for Paul Mariner.
In recent years have actually paid players to leave this club, which was unheard of before Marcus Evans arrival;so at least would get something back to set off against the one and a half million ME shelled out for Jet.
I worry though that Marcus is tightening the purse strings to such an extent that MM will be tempted to leave.A scenario which would be a disaster given the pending FFP.

Also agree with bluelady's post. I liked JET, but have to confess he was very hit and miss. Not sure the Championship style suits him. In the PL you get more space and could certainly see him fitting in.

However, can't believe we could have paid out nearly £2M for him! Suspect in reality it has been far less as he hasn't really hit any of the clauses.

I wish JET all the best.

Hope someone would like Chopra!!!

If he was Premier League quality we wouldn't be selling him, plain and simple. Attitude and application is a large part of being a good footballer, not just ability.

Walberswick - you talk sense. I for one fear the football we will be playing next year. Will be like watching Wolves

Walk the Wark - so how many Wolves games did you go and watch when Mick McCarthy was manager. probably none. You probably saw them on MOTD and the highlights.

Dan Burns, who was on loan with Yeovil last season would be good

Don't know what Mr Talbot saw that we didn't! - ok at times (very limited ones) he can produce a spark and as others have mentioned look at the managers he's been with, be very surprised if he now goes from strength to strength.

Rather see Chopra go.

Kirbmeister added 21:07 - May 31
Did those who hope he stays actually see him play last season? He just isn't good enough. He's another Danny Haynes - potential but no end product and never will have. Premiership quality? there is no way!!

Is he leaving to run their social club?Too good to be true getting rid of him and his bad ass attitude, now any takers for our burnt out gambler

if Fulham think they can get the best out of JET, so be it.. would like to see him do well.. as for this so called Prem quality saying. Makes me laugh when there are so many players in that league that would struggle in my pub team

Ipswichbusiness added 21:30 - May 31
I would rather that we kept JET and coached him. He is one of our few players who can do something different. If we have to let a forward go, I would prefer him to be Chopra.

Garv added 23:50 - May 31
Would help if Mick didn't keep trying to turn him into a target man.
