Fulham Targeting JET
Friday, 31st May 2013 07:00

Premier League Fulham are keen to sign Blues midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in a swap deal which we understand would involve two of their young players moving in the opposite direction. The 22-year-old, who has a year left on his contract, was made available by Town boss Mick McCarthy at the end of the season.

The Cottagers, who were believed to have shown interest in the former Arsenal man last summer, are understood not to be offering any cash for the Londoner but two of their youngsters in a proposed swap deal.

Emmanuel-Thomas made 43 starts and 32 substitute appearances, scoring nine goals, after joining the Blues from the Gunners in the summer of 2011 for a fee which ultimately could have reached £2 million.

Town legend Brian Talbot, a Fulham scout, was a regular visitor to Portman Road during the second half of the season.

I agree with Lewis - MM and TC have done a fantastic job so far, but I really think (and hope) this will be one of MM's few mistakes.

MM see George Graham, Tony Pulis, Sam Alladyce long ball, negative, Leeds, physical, boring...

@walberswick - but he does seem to be quite good at winning, as well!

I don't understand why we are letting him go either - his attitude seems to be good and as others have said, on his day he can be a match winner. He obviously gets on well with Nouble and these two with McGoldrick could form the basis of a pretty decent attack

Stokdale would be one I'd like to see back at Town for sure. Good luck to Jet if he goes he always gives 100% and has a good attitude to, will miss him but Mcarthy knows what he is doing.

I think the main problem we're all forgetting is that JET is probably earning £15,000 a week with us. If he was on £5,000 a week, which is rumoured to be our new wage cap, then maybe MM and TC would be in a better position to take a punt on him...but at £15,000 a week it's too much to spend on a guy who occassionally comes off the bench. I like JET and think he has something about him but I can see the logic. I'm sure it's also one of the reasons for Chopra being made available...although I'm sure that's not the only reason with Chops ;-)

Guthrum, he'll keep us in the Championship but it won't be worth watching

I'll take Kerim Frei and Matthew Briggs for JET. Kerim Frei plus one other would be an excellent bit of business and we need a left midfielder. International and Premier league pedigree at 19 - can't be bad!

Matthew Briggs can play left back, left midfield and centre back!!

Sounds like both these players could be what MM and TC are in the market for given the players we've been linked with so far.

Be a shame to see JET go. Let Jewell down and although can do it on his day and would provide good competition, i'd happily take two players for one any day!

if you got Jet to 89% of potential he'd be worth £2m

I have a hunch one of these will be Etheridge the goalie, apparently he's a hero in the Philippines!

Massive mistake I think if we let him go. Has a real chance to kick on next year. He's made an impact since he's started working that bit harder the back end of the season and he seems to be a big part of the dressing room which would be disrupted. Birmingham came to portman road with Nathan Redmond who they have put a £10 million price tag on and for me was very very average. Jet has so much more technical ability than him if he gets his head down what could he be worth? Just got a funny feeling if he goes I'm gna be hearing rave reviews from MOTD pundits after a bit of trickery, cutting inside and smashing the ball home.

Heres the issues;

1. On a very big wage for a club of our size especially considering FFP.

2. Numerous clubs have failed to realise his potential.

3. MM and TC seem to spend a lot of time on him with little reward.

4. Out of contract at the end of the season. There is no way we would offer a similar wage to what hes on now, so we all know he would move on anyway.

Its time to get rid while we can get something in return!!

I think jet Has tHe has the potential in there somewhere but where that somewhere has gone is a mystery! I don't believe he is a good as what he is made out to be though yeah a few tricks here and there is always going to get the crowd on his side because let's face it we haven't had that for a long long time. He has a arragonce about him most of the time. Jets record at Cardiff was 2 goals in 19 games and I cant remember him lighting up the world there as I think he was a sub most the time aswell.
I can't see us regretting him being let go I'm afraid like I said some potential there but not what people have hyped him up to be.

no here are the real issues:

1.all our players are on big wages

2. ipswich fails the majority of its players

3. MM TC spend a lot of time talking

4. out of contract, when has that been a problem. we give away free players

Keanish .. I agree he hasn't done it week in week out but there are some big factors to take into account

1- His Age , Le Tissier managed 15 goals in 81 appearances upto the age of 22 ?
2- A consistent run in the team ,luxury players need long runs playing its where the confidence comes from
3- Two different managers at Town ,different styles of play /formation different roles
4 - He has been playing in a struggling team fighting relegation on the back foot ,in a team of confidence at the right end of the table I think you could see a different player ?

And for those who said he never made it at Arsenal is not a real comparison . A team that can afford to spend millions on international wide players and forwards doesn't make JET a bad player for not breaking through against the likes of Walcott,Rosicky,Arshavin,Nasri,Van Persie ,Bendtner to name a few .

Like I said before I believe he is an enigma player like Taarabat who will be frustrating at times but will only get better with age IMO

If it is just youngsters involved, it won't be Stockdale. He is 27!

Read the money signs folks he is going because we cannot afford to pay him. I fully understand why most of you are so happy with MM & TC, because we have been starved of success and last season they achieved much and looked to be promising even more this year, I felt it too. However, since then there has been nothing from the club other than a negative ethos and i believe we are using the FFP as a means of not spending money on people MM/TC need to take us forward. Do hope I am wrong but do not believe so. Worried!

I don't disagree with anything you're saying about JET Surco. There are lots of mitigating factors as to why its not quite happened for him yet. Toward the end of last season i saw an improvement in his game indicating that MM and TC are geting through to him but i guess now its a question of wages vs contract length and the time its taken on the training ground to get him to this level to date.

When you look at players like Kerim Frei at fulham three years his junior (not that we'll get Frei as part of this deal but we can dream!) you have to wonder when it will happen for JET.

Walberswick - the real issues are:
1. We need consistent players who do it week after week not just when they feel like it
2. Wages too high
3. Had his chance, failed, move on
4. However lets at least get a fee for him or a decent like for like swap..

Under MM Wolves actually played some decent attacking football at times, though I accept he values hard work and structure more highly than creativity and some of his signings (Zubar etc) are dubious. With the existing squad and a couple of decent players like Stearman, Brands and McGowan there is no reason we can't play some decent stuff this year and go up. Joe Royle was a long ball manager before joining us but I seem to remember we played some cracking stuff under him....

So JET can't get in a mid table Championship team but a mid table Premier League team want him? I'd like that Kacaniklic (not sure on the spelling) who went on loan to Burnley from them and Stockdale would be great.

"On his day, JET is a match winner"

Now I know I missed more matches than I would have liked last year, but can someone please list, the matches where JET has been the key to us winning rather than drawing or losing the match, because he didn't do that at any of the matches I did manage to get to.
