McCarthy Wants Taylor Back With All Guns Blazing
Friday, 27th Sep 2013 17:25

Boss Mick McCarthy says he hopes striker Paul Taylor will return from his loan spell at Peterborough “with all guns blazing”. The 25-year-old is back at his old club until November 2nd as cover for Lee Tomlin, who has an ankle injury.

McCarthy says the switch will allow the Liverpudlian to get matches under his belt: “He needs to have games.

“They’ve got seven games in the next 30 days. It’s just for him to get fit. He did alright when he came on against Wigan, we were all over them, to be fair, and I thought he looked sharper.

“But he’s not going to start this weekend with us, if he stays here, he’d be a sub, used or unused, so it was just important that he got some football.

“He’s come back from 11 months out and he needs games and he’s not going to get them here.”

The Town boss says a longer term stay at London Road isn’t being considered: “All being well he’ll be back here all guns blazing.

“The intention is to cover that period and Paul, on his part, has no intention of staying there or on my part him staying there any longer.

“They talk about a month or 90 days, I want a recall after 28 days on players anyway but it’s important that he gets playing time, I think for himself to prove that he can get back to what he was and then to come back to us and have the player that we signed for so much money and had such great hopes for.”

You optimist! You know the way that it works is that we subsidise the wages while on loan, then pay the player to leave so he can join his chosen club.

I hope Taylor does come back sharp and ready for ITFC, but I am not getting my hopes up.

Finally puts rest to all the rumours that MM wants rid of Taylor. Thank God

I really hope he goes to Peterborough and gets fully match fit and in form. By the time November comes, it will be like signing a new player for us. I feel better knowing that he still features in McCarthy's plans and it's just to get him match fit. Just hope all goes well and he doesn't have a relapse with us stuck paying his wages for another year.

Won't stop people from talking a load of utter nonsense about how Mick doesn't rate him, or they have fallen out etc etc

Agree souperjim. There's a handful on here who have been chatting utter rubbish on the whole story. Good that this article has been posted as it contradicts everything they've been bemoaning! Taylor has always been touted as a player MM admires both pre and during his management here so no idea why they think otherwise.

Fingers crossed Taylor can have a god spell and get his sharpness and confidence back.

Very glad to hear this guy is still in Mick's plans. I had feared we'd be seeing a more expensive Civelli.

And in the meantime, let's see what young Mr Marriott can do. With any luck, we might get to Christmas with Marriott finding his feet and Taylor coming back in top form.
