Sammon Linked With Huddersfield Loan
Tuesday, 13th Jan 2015 15:27

Blues loan striker Conor Sammon is being linked with another loan move to Huddersfield Town for the second half of the season.

According to the Irish Evening Herald the 28-year-old Derby frontman is interesting Terriers manager Chris Powell, who is keen to add to his strike force.

Sammon joined the Blues on a season-long loan in August but such spells include the provision for a recall within an open transfer window, so Sammon can go back to the Rams and then on to Huddersfield this month.

The former UCD, Kilmarnock and Wigan striker, who has another 18 months remaining on his Derby contract, has scored one goal in eight starts and 12 sub appearances for the Blues."

Sammon moving on prematurely would mean Town boss Mick McCarthy would need to add another striker to his squad.

Good move for both parties as long as we have a ready replacement such as Jesse Lingard or Jonny Williams

@airliner, @No32 and @bellazzurri79 Yes, let's get rid of cover in the one area where, if Murphs or Didz get an injury, we don't have cover.

Murphs struggled with a groin injury on Saturday and you seem quite happy to get rid of a player that can come in and perform a similar role. Quality stuff.

He's a striker ?

I can understand why Derby might want him to go elsewhere, he's not getting that much more game time here than he would have done staying at Pride Park. But we'd need to move quickly to get another forward if he did move on. Not the best player ever, but he can do a job in an area in which we'd otherwise be lacking any real strength in depth.

Homer I would think we have someone else lined up, lets face it he has hardly played and isn't a replacement for Didz or Murphy as he doesn't score goals

C'mon, the guy's done his best when he's come on. Always put in a great shift and was quite useful harrying the opposition's defence late on in the game. He may have been a bit disappointing at the other end of the pitch, but he's put in the effort and doesn't really deserve to be knocked in the way some of you think. It would be great if we could get in a really livewire forward as backup, but I fear it's not going to happen.

I like Sammon as a sub coming on when we're winning - he's not a goalscorer though and if he's not up for being on the bench it's best to let him go.

I'd love to see Williams come back and play with McGoldrick and Murphy up top, not sure about Hunt yet but ultimately noone can argue that if McGoldrick or Murphy are injured we're gonna be much weaker.

What a shame! At least MM will need to add another striker now ;)

Would personally like Eoin Doyle from Chesterfield - scoring goals , Irish and a good age - BUT see Celtic maybe bidding £1.5m
If that out maybe Kevin Doyle !? just gone to Wolves from Palace
Would fit in with MM and afew others
Can score at this level and prob ok with being on bench ?
Yes I would also like Williams type as well !

Kevin Doyle on loan maybe if this is true?

Jonny Williams and Kevin Doyle would be two very welcome additions!

I think the best way to summarise this is:

We don't need Sammon. But we do need someone.

Don't worry StuartBrett8... there's a time and plaice for that anyway.

It makes me really crabby thinking we would have to settle for salmon pushing the goals in the net should we lose didzy and Murphy hook line and sinker. Lets cast our net far and wide and catch a much better specimen.

Would be madness to just send him back. If Derby take him back fair enough, but he's our only half decent backup. Bajner doesn't seem to be trusted whatsoever, and Hunt might be okay but he's 5 foot tall and unlikely to get many games up front in my opinion.

He may not be very good.

However he has done a job, and bet that Derby did not expect us to be up top with them and have one of their own helping us out.

If you were Derby you would do anything to weaken us, however marginally

id rather play gerken up front than sammon. MM has surely got something lined up

Derby may choose to recall him as he's not currently suited to our style... I'm sure John Vicars will agree that we are too route one for him.

PJH added 16:50 - Jan 13
I imagine that if Derby want to recall him, for whatever reason, there is nothing that we can do about it.
When he has appeared he has worked hard but rarely looked like scoring, making him ok if we are ahead but not if we are chasing a game.
If he does go, we certainly need someone else in-preferably someone that is more of a goal threat.

karls_dad added 16:53 - Jan 13
I cannot knock his work rate, he really has tried, but no real goal threat, Mick surely will have someone else lined up without doubt, hopefully not a loan, but a player that will wear the shirt and play for it!
Good luck to Sammon if he goes and thanks for your efforts, but time to move on with someone new!
