Douglas Agrees Terms - Report
Monday, 3rd Aug 2015 17:37

Brentford midfielder Jonathan Douglas is reported to have agreed a one-year contract with the Blues plus an option for a further season. The 33-year-old is out of favour at Griffin Park and is set to join Town on a free transfer.

According to Sky Sports personal terms have been agreed with the Irishman having been due at Portman Road for a medical and talks earlier this afternoon.

Monaghan-born Douglas, whose partner is Sky Sports News presenter Natalie Sawyer, moved to England in 2000 when he joined Blackburn Rovers. While at Ewood Park he spent time on loan at Chesterfield, Blackpool and Gillingham before moving on to Leeds in 2005.

After four years at Elland Road, the 6ft tall holding midfielder moved to Swindon before he joined Brentford in 2011.

Douglas, who has been capped eight times by the Republic of Ireland, signed a new contract with the Bees in February but is not in new manager Marinus Dijkhuizen's plans and last month he was told he could move on.

"He is not part of the squad and is training separately. There is no future for him," Dijkhuizen told BBC London.

"We decided it is better for him to move on - for his future and for the future of Brentford."

Last season Douglas made 46 starts and scored eight goals as the Bees finished fifth in the Championship, one place above Town.

Last week, the Blues missed out on signing another Brentford player, Northern Irish winger Stuart Dallas, who is set to join Leeds United in a £1.25 million deal.

Great signing, gives us so many options across midfield now.

Also a fantastic player for Bishop to learn from.

Think Natalie Sawyer is divorced from a rugby player.

Think she is now with Jonathan Douglas.

the sort of player we have been crying out for in midfield , a bit of mettle and strength , not at all worried about him being 33 wtf ? he has 2 or 3 years left at least , several options for us now in midfield , will need to find our best starting 11

Decent signing, doesn't play like he is 33. Brentford's unorthodox transfer policy is strange if they let their captain, that scored 8 goals from midfield and played 46 games, WTF are they thinking?

We need a right back and a quality Attacking midfielder /winger COYB

I was pretty happy about Jonathan Douglas signing but I'm probably even happier at the thought of Natalie Sawyer turning into a blue!

If he hasn't yet signed and reads some of these comments he probably won't . At the end of the day everyone wants to bang your girlfriend (and some of us again). So chin up Jonathan ,don't be possessive.

Sounds a good signing, especially as Mark Warburton put him on a new contract before Brentford bizarrely got rid of him. A few goals from midfield...just what we need!

Such a strange game. The idea that Brentford want to offload Douglas and he is happy with a one year contract. I think we have the kind of player we have been crying out for. I am fond of Hyam - was even in Eindhoven seeing his lively introduction in the friendly against PSV, where I recall he got an enthusiastic booking - but he has not become the box-to-box player that we need. Douglas , Skuse and Bishop sounds possibly really good to me.

Potentially this opens the possibility of playing Skuse at right back (where he played his last season at Bristol City) maybe 1st game when we're missing Berra and possibly Parr, but if nothing else it gives us the option of bring an attacking midfielder on for a defender :-)
