Town Close to Signing Polish Defender
Monday, 24th Aug 2015 11:09

Town will complete the signing of Korona Kielce defender Piotr Malarczyk before the transfer window closes next week, according to reports in Poland.

The 24-year-old is understood to have a clause in the one-year contract he signed as recently as June which means he can move for 50,000 Polish Zloty, just over £8,500, although he is actually claimed to be worth around £350,000.

Malarczyk, who was previously interesting another Polish side, Jagiellonia Białystok, has been with his hometown club, who play in the Polish top flight, throughout his career.

He made his senior debut in 2009 and has now made 131 appearances, scoring eight goals and is their current skipper. He has been capped by Poland at U19, U20 and U21 levels.

Speaking in an interview with Polish website 24x45.info last week, Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski revealed that the Town management had asked him about Malarczyk, who he described as a "strong, determined and ambitious defender".

Bialkowski also spoke about his father, who sadly died over the weekend having been ill for some time. The keeper flew back to Poland ahead of Saturday's game at Preston.

Malarczyk plays either as a centre-half or a right-back with manager Mick McCarthy revealing that he was targeting a player in that mould earlier in the month.

The Blues made multiple offers for Hearts youngster Jordan McGhee but it seems have now moved on to another target.

Converting using the MingsExchange system this means we will be selling him for a mere £6.8m in a couple of seasons time. Barely worth it for such a paltry profit is it? ;)

I'm starting to believe Mrs McCarthy or Mrs Connor works in the filing room at UEFA where they box up all of the typed version of the contracts submitted by each FA.

'Darling, there's a Danish international here with a £350,000 buyout'. 'Darling, Polish centre back here for £8.500'. 'Darling, there's toad in the hole in the oven. I won't be home. I'm just looking into that Latvian right back with a £1.89 buyout clause'.

Sounds like Mick's pulled another bargain out the bag again!

Obviously time will tell if he's a Mings or a Baijner, but 6"2 can play right/central and averages 2 goals a season - so all sounds good!

The Guardian's comment:
"11.18am BST Big-spending Championship news, as the early leaders Ipswich are — according to Polish reports — to sign defender Piotr Malarczyk from Koronie Kielce for a sum that would equate to...erm...£8,500. We'll see. They don't have £9m to spend though so they're not a threat to your club."

Saxon - This was good from the Guardian too and very true -
"In the Championship, where half of the division are surely on the road to hell if they don't make good their gambling with a quickfire promotion"

Well I'm expecting him to be at least 85% as good as MIngs then. Nice one Mick - continues to take the p!ss on the transfer market! COYB

I know nothing about the lad, but if he comes in and does anything like as well as Jonas Knudsen has so far then it'll be 8 grand very well spent. The scouts really have been incredible since McCarthy took charge so I trust their judgement whoever we sign. You may get a Frank Nouble or you may get a Tyrone Mings, but for £8,000 it's definitely worth a gamble!

Great news, we desperately need cover with Parr injury prone. I know nothing about him though, so can't comment on his ability.

On another note, sad news about Barts father.

As previously said, few if any of us had heard of Jonas before we signed him and he is looking like he could become a very good left back.
If this signing happens, let's hope he is as good.

No agent but put a £8,500 buy-out clause into his contract? Either he is a very clever lad or someone at the club thought no agent no need to be careful about the contract!
