| Forum Reply | Cook - I never took training pre season at 13:14 7 Jan 2022
It's just Cook trying to excuse himself for taking the best squad in League One to the bottom half of the table and angle for another job. No more than that and I don't blame him for it. It did concern me at the time when he took over last year and there was no bounce whatsoever. It was also weird when the new squad got a few bad results and he said he needed Morsy and they would not happen with Morsy in the team. Now if you are Morsy that may make you feel good, but how is it supposed to make the other players feel? Like a lazy bunch of wimps who need someone kicking them up the backside on the pitch. I am not sure he is that great a man manager. |

2 matches in 3 years - if we want promotion, we can't be carrying anyone anymore. At certain points in the last few years, we seem to have had a whole midfield out long-term injured. |

3 quality players in fairness. It is a shame really - by rights they should be bowing out in front of a crowd with us back in the Championship, and it is not their fault that they aren't. The damage that Hurst and Lambert did to this club |

Thanks for presiding over the worst period in our club’s history since the 1950s and making us terrible to watch and depressing to support. |

It would not surprise me if half our team could not get another professional club. They have not been good enough in most games and I expect they would not put up with League Two wages, having rinsed us. In a way it would be best not to go up this year - get rid of all the dreck and build a squad, rather panicking and trying to ship people in, when virtually none of the team are good enough for the Championship. |

I haven’t really disliked any of our hapless managers since Magilton. They all did their best in their own way and had short periods of relative success. We just lack quality and have done for years now. Really, unless you spend money you are going backwards these days, and for a club with our ground and fan base, Evans isn’t up to it. There’s no point owning a club like ours unless you are trying to get to the Premier League - let someone else have a go. You can’t run a football club like a garden centre - you need some ambition. |

I am over halfway through and it is a good book - very honest and compelling for that reason. However, I think the editor realised that the Ipswich days would not have broad appeal, so they are condensed into a chapter or two. There is not that much detail there - and what there is, is actually a bit depressing (for a Town fan) to be honest. Definitely worth reading though because it is best to know the truth. |

I was interested to know as I had a season ticket for those years - I don't think it could be Marshall as he left right at the start of that season and KD talks about being fine with him after that and letting him tackle him in training. Also, there is no way Marshall is getting back to tackle anyone - he just used to stand up front like a pylon waving his arms around. |

I think it should make a difference that it was a very good impression (clearly he was a big fan of Chris Rock) rather than a nasty caricature. Obviously could not do it these days. Reminded me a bit of the kid who dressed up as Diouf. |

Of the current squad, if we want to transform the team and challenge for Top 10, the following should not be in the squad: Digby Spence Knudsen Douglas Berra, Chambers, Sears and Pittman should be on the bench, challenging to be in the first team, not on the pitch. |
| Forum Reply | Berra at 12:06 1 Feb 2017
Berra has declined. Our best hope is to sell him in the Summer. Not sure we can drop him at the moment though with Smith injured. Perhaps Taylor will be the man to step in - I reckon that was the plan. |

Derby are a quality side - but for bad management they should be in the Prem by now. We'll give Reading a game! |
| Forum Reply | Taylor last night? at 12:02 1 Feb 2017
It would do us a favour if Chambers left. I like the guy, but he is not good enough on the ball for a right back and not solid enough as a centre back. If you want to play decent attacking football, it is crucial to have two full backs who are good on the ball, able to attack a defender and get a decent cross in. Playing a centre back at right back suits Mick's style of football (Stearman?) but is regressive. IMO our full backs have been the consistent weakness in our team this year and last (excusing Berra's decline). |
| Forum Reply | You know, I was quite happy before ME took over at 11:49 1 Feb 2017
I think Sheepshanks benefited from the parachute payments and great youth players who were coming through. With the current financial situation in the Championship and destruction of our youth setup under Keane/Jewell, I don't think you can compare the two. The simple fact is that we cannot afford to compete in the top half of the Championship at the moment. We are where we deserve to be and Mick and the players are trying their best. The problem Marcus Evans has is that he spent millions on Keane/Jewell, Paul Taylor, Michael Chopra, Tamas Priskin, Lee Martin and we were odds on to be relegated to League One. Mick has come in, made us a solid mid-table side, who (injuries permitting) can challenge in the top 10, whilst spending nothing and selling big. That is obviously better than what we had a few years ago. Let's face it, we would be happy with 7th/8th challenging to be in the playoffs. Sheff Wed and Norwich are in that position and have just spent £10 million on a striker and £7 million on a winger respectively. How do we compete with that? After the next round of games, if they go our way, we would be twelfth. I think that would be over-achieving with this squad. |
