Collins Linked With Wolves
Collins Linked With Wolves
Tuesday, 22nd Nov 2011 11:30

Town loan defender Danny Collins is reportedly being eyed by Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers. Collins, 31, is with the Blues until mid-December, his 93-day spell recently having been extended.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy, who took the Wales international from Chester to Sunderland for £140,000 October 2004, could look to renew their acquaintance in January, it's claimed.

Collins, who has 18 months left on his Stoke contract, said last week that he is enjoying life with the Blues but his fiancée and new-born son are still living near to his parent club.

Town boss Paul Jewell has is keen for the centre-half to return to Portman Road in January.

Meanwhile, Millwall have been linked with Town target George Porter.

Even if we had signed him as a perm signing in the summer and his wife wanted to live nearer Stoke, we would have a player on our books who wanted to move back 'nearer home'.

I always thought that these guys were ' Proffesional Football Players '. Surely, if your job moves you, you go, or hasn't the lack of jobs situation hit football yet ? Presumably not.

And when Collins does go and if Sonko remains unfit who exactly is going to defend for ITFC ?? The options look very weak. We've had this central defence problem for months now so please PJ sort it out.I just hope he has some signings imminent before the close of the loan window on thursday or we will be looking down rather than upwards. But he doesn't fill me with confidence.

Can't see Collins staying now unless he is not so fond of McCarthy. Nearer home and probably offered better terms and playing top level football. Agree with Tractastic, hope Jewell has some more defenders lined up as we look very weak at present and if Collins doesn't stay...........

Neither Collins nor Andrews will be signing for us in January . We have ALWAYS been a stepping stone for their careers , such is our meadiocrity these days.

Jewell needs to be seriously looking at League one and two levels for the bets players available . Time to give the over paid, rich journeymen a miss!

Magilton had to fork out £1.1M to land McAuley, and that's a hard act to follow with loans and free transfers. Sonko was looking excellent before his injury so let's hope he comes back and stays fit, but even then we will need a good left-sided centre back to go with him. I wish we could find such a player in League One, someone young with lower wages demands even if a decent transfer fee has to be paid. We need to build for the future.

His job isnt moving him.
Hes looking for a new job.
If youre a highly paid executive and you decide you want a new job, you dont have to move several hundred miles to find a new job, you find one closer to home.

Danny Collins is one of the top 500 or so professional footballers in this country, so Id say hes got a bit of choice, wouldnt you?

Shame. So far it looks as though we will need to look to sign at least two centre backs, a right back, a winger and new keeper as a priority come January.

Can't see Wolves signing him given the number of CBs already in their squad? Can't see Wolves using up one of their "25" on Collins unless they are letting one of their other CBs go?

Depends how bad Stearmans break is I guess too?

As already stated, Jewell needs to look for young, hungry lower division players, like Cresswell who has been a best player so far this season.
Old, experienced Premiership players on loan ain't going to work, as their heart isn't going to be in it.

RE: this Millwall link to Porter, what's happened to our interest in Henry? I didn't think he'd figured much down there and wanted away? Surely time to renew interest?

The joys of loan players.
If they work they get snapped up and if they dont they are a waste of space anyway.
Jewell Out

He may be playing Div 1 football if he comes here which he won't, according to a Forest supporting friend we were by far the worst side to visit Forest this season.

^^lol, the worst side?? Ask him how many shots they had on goal and ask him to go over the passes of that game....two headers that had to be bang on the mark and to be fair they were, won them that game...how quiet were the Forest fans for 80mins?
Shame about Collins if it's true....we always seem to need at least four players don't we..

RetroBlue - you're spot on with that.

If this Club has a future - it has to be through the youngsters - but we keep losing them, which was once totally unheard of here.
Radical policy change needed - like yesterday !!.

Wish he will stay, but funnily enough cant see it happening. He has played well with us, which is why he is attracting premier league attention. Itfc have been used by collins to promote himself. He's played well and at the boro match he was a class above the rest, Cmon Paul sign him!!!
