Edwards Offered Deal
Edwards Offered Deal
Thursday, 8th Mar 2012 23:53

Town have offered current skipper Carlos Edwards a new one-year contract. The 33-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international is likely to accept the deal having recently said he’d like to remain at Portman Road.

Edwards, who joined the Blues from Sunderland for £1.35 million in 2009, turned down a new contract a year ago, preferring to allow a clause his existing deal to trigger an additional year.

Speaking a fortnight ago, the former Wrexham and Luton man made his intention to remain a Town player clear: “I would love to stay, I am happy here and most importantly, my family are happy here.”

As long as the finance is right he will offer good cover at RB and in midfield. A sensible move.

Good news.

Over priced for someone who has turned out to be a defender (I think he's played his best football at right back), but a valuable member of our team now and generally a very good footballer.

Good news!

I like that - player showing club loyalty, club showing player loyalty.

Sign up Edwards and show your commitment to the club, unlike the previous captain who turned down our contract offer earlier in the season. Let's not drag this one out please.

I must be watching a different player than most ,gifted on the ball glides by players ,can shoot and puts in crosses, committed to the club all good credentials for a new contract as an attacking option but not a defender in any way shape or form .He doesnt mark properly ,is out of position constantly, loses concentration easily ,spends the first 10 yards trying to get to the player making it easier for them to go round him when he gets there ,lets too many crosses into the box again because he is too far away from his man .
Would definately offer him another contract to challenge Jet for the wide position and as cover for the defence ,but if we want to be serious contenders for promotion you cannot make do with players playing out of position and it is definately not natural for Carlos to do this (not his fault and believe he has really given it a go ) .There is a reason we have conceded so many goals this season and the keeper and centre backs have been changed on numerous occasions unlike the full backs but yet we continue to concede a lot of easy goals

Blimey some people are never happy he wants to stay and they have made an offer the poor bloke is not a natural RB but gives it his best you cant blame him for the manager playing people out of position the butt stops with him not the player

I am not blaming him newboy but also i wont say he is good right back just because he playing out of position and trying hard ,that thinking stops at about under 12 age

Agree with Surco, would offer him a contract as going forward he is effective and works hard for the 90 minutes, but as a RB IMO we still need better. Move him forward as an attacking player then ideal.

Well deserved. Still think we need a proper right-back, but Edwards is a) good cover b) can play in midfield. Has captained the side well and has overall been an excellent signing.

An "excellent signing" way over the top from the Keane fan .
£1.5 million for a player who has performed averagely over three disappointing seasons ?
Charlie Adam for £500,000 that was an excellent signing ,Taarabat for £750,000 that was an excellent signing the two for less than Edwards ? Doesnt add up does it JAS

Good work Town. Defo worth keeping for another year. The type of player who could carry on playing for another few years yet as he so much natural fitness. Hope to hear he signs up shortly.

To be honest I have never rated Carlos as a defender and in truth slaughtered him for many defensive c*ck ups; that said he has been a consistant name on the list with no injuries and appears to have knuckled down so probably deserves another year. His attitude should serve as an example to others ie Bullard!!
