As I am bored at work I thought I’d waste my time compiling a couple of simple tables of potential managers in order and my thoughts on each candidate. Let the debate begin!

Wanted Managers

Harry Redknapp: Obviously

Owen Coyle: Promoted Burnley. Relegated Bolton due to four+ key injuries and Muamba almost bringing sudden death back into the FA Cup.

Kevin Bond: Tottenham assistant, unlucky at Bournemouth due to 27 point deductions in two years and no finance. Could pinch Massimo?

Alan Curbishley: Did v. well at Charlton. Kept West Ham in Premier League

Glenn Hoddle: Unlucky to be sacked as England boss. Didn’t lose for 25 games in first season as wolves boss. Finished seventh following season. Resigned unexpectedly in anticipation to get the England job that never came. Not done anything for seven years.

Paul Ince: Double promotion with the MK Dons. Unfairly sacked at Blackburn. Couldn’t improve Notts County.

Jim Magilton: Finished only just outside playoffs with town with 'better' football. Unfairly sacked at QPR. Did well at Shamrock Rovers and melbourne FC.

Gianluca Vialli: Passion and comedy value

Alex McLeish: Promoted Hibs. Won everything with Rangers. Promoted B'ham. Only lost three games as Scotland manager – Italy (x2) and Georgia - beat France and Ukraine. Vilified at Villa.

Maybe Managers

Peter Reid: Double promotion with Sunderland (and one relegation into Championship) poor at Coventry and Thailand before aiding Pulis at Stoke to 11th in 2010. Unlucky at Plymouth.

Andy Scott: Did well at Brentford with promotion. Several dodgy transfer dealings at Rotherham.

Unwanted Managers

Glenn Roeder: Ex-Canary

Nigel Worthington: Ex-Canary

Gary Megson: Poor record at everywhere except West Brom. Uninspiring.

Iain Dowie: Ugly as sin

Dennis Wise: Thug. Poor at Newcastle.

Steve Kean: Recorded worst stats as Blackburn manager since 1992.

Graeme Souness: Don’t like him

Gareth Southgate: Relegated Middlesbrough. Paid £13.6m for Alfonso Alves!??

Phil Brown: Having made several false accusations (cesc fabregas take note) he makes up an untrustworthy character. Relegated Hull and Preston. Thought it was a good idea to buy Steven Mouyokolo.

I welcome all comments regarding my choices as I’m sure to have missed a few obvious ones. Also as a side note, these are only available managers - there will be plenty more if we pinch someone from another club!

Cheers.

couple of other names that have been thrown around

alan shearer - fantastic player for southampton, blackburym, england, seems to command respect of peers, players and team. as much management experience the downing street cat

paulo di canio - doing ok at swindon. would upset everyone

gus poyet - doing well at brighton. fans and team love him. would never come here

george burley - got us playing good football. not given enough time post previous sucess at PR. would be returning to yesterdays man. not sure most fans would accept that.

mick mills/terry butcher - would only want them as coaches. would hate for their legend status' to be ruined.

To be fair to Southgate, Afonso Alves looked world class at Heerenveen..

if we can't get Gus Poyet, his assistant is a bit of a legend...

I'd hate McGleish, Bond, Magilton (back), Ince, Vialli. All would be another 'high profile' backward step for me.

Curbishley has been out of the game too long now. Hoddle is an interesting one, but also out of the game too long in managerial terms.

Owen Coyle is a possible. The idea of Peter Reid makes me cringe, as does Andy Scott.

I agree with all your 'Definitely nots'.

I still think Tisdale, Robinson, Ferguson (or a great star name of Solskaer) would all be good for their ability with youths, tactics, man management and (in the case of the first 3) lower league knowledge.

Uwe Rosler

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Karl Robinson
Kieth Hill
Alan Curbishley
Paolo Sousa (not sure where he is now but plays attractive football)

Why would Harry Rednapp be 'obviously'? He's very old and buys loads of players, mostly old, and doesn't build a team for the future. He'd be a quick fix only, and that isn't what we want (it's what Keane and Jewell were meant to be).

You also forgot to mention that McLeish plays the most dog awful football anyone has ever seen. I had my filll of dull as piss defensive football under Keane thank you very much

I think paulo di canio would be a good choice. Swindon are playing good football. He has a lot of passion. However, he is a bit of a hot head who could cause problems.

Rednapp- I can't see this happening regardless of him being friends with Evans.

I would like either Mick McCarthy or Alan Curbishly.

Mick has a very good Championship record and would at least bring discipline in.

Curbishly- great Manager when working but has been out for a long time. Could that mean he is out of touch.

Hoodle would be very interesting, he has been doing a lot of working with his academy in Spain so could especially work well with Klug. Maybe worth a go.

Hoddle could be worth a shot in all honesty.

He's certainly aware of what's good and what's not, having been heavily involved in getting player back at clubs with his academy.

Tactically he's certainly up there.

Would the players respect him is questionable though. Wouldn't mind him throwing his name in the hat so the board could judge him.

With reference to *naa*
We do need a quick fix! 5points from safety! Redknapp would be the ideal choice. Bobby Robson was old and still managed. Redknapp can go on for as long as he wants. Would love to see it just dont think we could afford him

All of them sound awful, but then Roy Keane sounded wonderful, so what do I know?

The only name on this list who might get anywhere near the job is Coyle. Where is Freedman, McCarthy and Davies? Why people keep mentioning Glenn Hoddle is beyond me, I'll be utterly amazed if he ever manages again.

Paul Lambert - Having a nightmare at Villa, troublesome players like Darren Bent (wherever did he learn his football?) but has proven himself at Colchester (just like George Burley did) and did get another very mediocre team promoted and surviving in the Premiership. Only two small snags - will get a massive payoff when Villa sack him so would need an enormous carrot to step down a division, and then there is the Andy Marshall effect...
