Nothing to do with Corbyn being similar to Trump. Investment in social media advertising (particularly through facebook) has shown to be a big vote swinger, so whoever invests more (like the Conservatives did in 2015, like the Vote Leave campaign did last year, like Trump's team did last year, like Labour did this year) has a better chance of winning, and they all did bar Corbyn.

As for appealing to young voters, it's not as simple as 'they was bribed' etc. (banging that drum, and the 'young people don't know anything' one will only boost Labour's chances), more that Corbyn (almost reinventing himself from the incompetent looking man who went along with the daft train stunt and tried to hide from journalists behind a glass door) came across as a breath of fresh air to people for whom this may have been their 1st or 2nd election, seemingly willing to answer questions and engage with them. Little stunts like kicking a football around and appearing on a youtube channel with a young audience to chat about football has a huge appeal, and allows people to warm to him.

Meanwhile, the noise from the opposition camp about his IRA links were never going to have much of a hit on the young - simply a lot are too young to contextualise it and thus find it easier to brush that sort of thing aside.

Yeah I get that bit about the IRA and for that matter remembering what life was like under previous Labour Govts that couldn't balance the books and borrowed heavily to meet their socialist ideals when Healy had to go cap in hand to the IMF for a bail out and despite some contemporary evidence such as what's happening in Venezuela to demonstrate that a left wing agenda is difficult to sustain.

I don't think Labours all out blitz of social media this last election was like anything we have seen before, it' was the constant mantra, the in your face, the hostility against anyone not supporting Labour (Tory scum), the idea that the whole of the media was prejudiced against Corbyn (a tactic borrowed straight from the Trunp campaign), you saw it on here day in day out, it was concerted and it was very concentrated, it was also highly effective. Surprisingly though it didn't really mobilise a lot of people against it which suggests it was cleverly targeted.

Corbyn will win the next election unless the Tories campaign smarter.

"It is easy to make lots of promises to gain a following but not at all easy to deliver and the results can be disastrous."

Enough about brexit, let's get back to the point.

Because the majority didn't buy in to the remainers scare tactics?

I really can't be bothered to rehash it and you certainly won't find me defending the remain campaign.

It's just odd that the young are labelled as gullible and easily influenced for believing in a better future but the old are canny and wise for believing we can go back to the 1970's.

I'm not mad on Corbyn and think his manifesto probably has more than a few holes in it but compared to the leave campaign it was a model of economic sense.

Yeah no point rehashing it but just one point. The young didn't vote in huge numbers in the referendum had they mobilised like they did for Corbyn who interestingly really didn't campaign strongly to remain, then the outcome may have been different.

Ok one other point those who voted for Brexit didn't really vote to return to the 70's did they. If it was the 70's people hankered for then they should have returned a Labour Govt at the election.

First point is spot on.

I think you might have taken my 70's comment a bit literally.

All I'm saying is that both the Brexit vote and the surprising election result were founded on hope rather than expert opinions and cold hard facts. It seems experts and economists are fashionable again among Tory supporters when it suits.

He brings hope, change and fairness.
I'm nearly 40 and in my lifetime the only uprising I can barely remember is the pickets in Yorkshire and Wales. It feels like a real revolution could be on the horizon.
We need the youth to stand up and get involved, make a change (I'm not ripping of man in the mirror).
If they don't then they are right royally fu(ked. Step up Jeremy. Be a hero because Theresa isn't

I think you'll find the pricing of young people out of everything (especially housing) was well and truly started under the Labour government of Blair and Brown. Independent BOE, turning a blind eye to the 'self-certificated' mortgages helped house prices rocket.

Ermmmm....dodgy historical statement. Try the late 1980s under Thatcher.

I really hope so. Something has to change.
Once we realise we have to sort our own house out first rather than blaming others, we can move on to better and greater things.

One of the biggest tragedies that happened IMO to this country is that Smith died before he could claim power. Robin Cook should have been the next leader.
