My daughter had an 18th birthday house party tonight 02:36 - Sep 10 with 11271 viewsSuperfrans

Boy. We have a lot of clearing up to do tomorrow.

Coke cola on ceilings, mud traipsed through the kitchen, broken garden chairs, cans and bottles everywhere, even cupboards we had tied shut with string had been got into. Blimey.

But, I guess a child only ever has one 18th... it's all part of life's experience...

Glad I don't have to have another one soon. Well, not for another four years (my second daughter).

Yeah, sounds a bit cheap doesn't it. We got in some disposable glasses etc, so wanted to secure away the family crystal (or at least, our favourite glasses) etc.

I must admit, I'm surprised there is so much interest in my daughters 18th. But I guess I did out it out there.

All in all, it was fine. As someone else has said, much better her celebrating her 18th at home, surrounded by friends, than sitting in the local park, getting pissed on cider/wine/vodka and unclear when and how she was getting home. A bit of cleaning up to do today, but nothing that a few hours of graft can't sort out.

AND! I've managed to use the opportunity to de clutter the house. 👍🏻

A party at a venue which caters for parties? Yeah what a bloody stupid idea.

We did that for her 16th. Shared a venue with parents of a couple of her friends, but she wanted it at home this time.

I understand and it wasn't a criticism of you. It was just a strange response from mos.

I think you got off lightly. My mum and dad went to Wales for the weekend when I was 17 and I had loads pof people around for a party. We half emptied all of their booze and filled the bottles back up with water hoping they'd not notice. We were doing 360 degree turns in my mums car on the gravel drive and I got grassed up by the neighbours. Three years later when they moved they found a used condom behind the wardrobe in their bedroom.

My kids get hall parties based on my own experience.

'even cupboards we had tied shut with string had been got into'

You should commercialise this bullet proof security system.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Her mates have all gone (obviously) apart from the one unfortunately puking her guts up in the bathroom....

My daughter will be in charge of clearing the garden, I've already cleaned the kitchen.

The problem, is having a party in a house where you need to use the garden, and having two days or rain before everything gets under way - and get mud trodden indoors. Fortunately, we have wooden floors, so it all mops off.

The garden furniture comprises a couple of old chairs which we were going to chuck out anyway. No biggie.

Anyway, It's all part of life's experience, as you say.

My daughter was allowed a "gathering" of friends at our house when she was 16. Some of them - mostly the lads - didn't treat the place with respect, left cigarette butts, mud, cans & bottles everywhere inside & outside. We had always told our daughter we wouldn't give her an 18th party (most licensed venues are very reluctant to hold them given the likelihood of under-age drinking) but would give her a decent 21st, as by then her friends would have already explored their limits of alcohol, which we did.
