OT: Reliable Li ion battery suppliers? 16:36 - Sep 25 with 1040 viewsNthQldITFC

Looking into buying 18650 batteries and USB charger for bike torch and its a minefield! The 18650 spec seems not to be a real spec, with different lengths which may or may not fit your device.
Seems like a lot of the batteries available on Amazon could be dodgy re-brands so I was wondering if anyone has good advice for a reliable UK supplier? Cheers.

What I don't understand is why don't bike companies fit lights onto the bikes, that automatically work when the bike is pedaled? Like a wind up torch, but pedal wind up? Surely someone has already invented this? if not, PM me and we will go on dragons den.

Haha. I won't edit, otherwise your very funny comment won't make sense. I am looking to buy one or two batteries of type 18650.
And yes, they are cells, not batteries!

We use these for various bits and bobs

https://cpc.farnell.com/search?st=18650

interesting, the second one on that lists says:
Because of the integrated safety board, the battery is longer in size compared to the unprotected 18650 Li-ion batteries. It is approximately 3 - 4 mm longer.

Looks like utter nonsense, as you suggest

I'd imagine that finding a reliable source of Li on batteries would be a real source of pride..

Cheers. Yeah, the 18650 label comes form 18mm diameter, 65mm length, but as you say they can be up to 68mm or so with a protection circuit. Also can have button ends (like old skool AA/AAA cells) or flat ended, so you've got to be on your game to buy the right thing. Sort of an evolving specification which is fair enough I suppose.
I'll look at Farnell and Tandy/RS - might be a bit more expensive, but as there's an element of risk involved, probably better not to be a skinflint :).
