Are the players under enough pressure? Interesting comments from Mick Mills 12:21 - Feb 12 with 5464 viewsOxford_Blue

that he feels they are in a bit of a comfort zone and Lambert’s attempts to protect them have backfired a little.

It was worrying to hear Downes interviewed last night when he said the players didn’t feel under pressure and “have nothing to lose”.

Appreciate he’s a young lad and not that articulate (as per most footballers) but surely the right thing to have said would have been “look it’s not good enough, we all know that, we are Ipswich town and we shouldn’t even be in this league so we we need to get up as soon as possible”.

Just found it odd that he would admit there isn’t pressure and nothing to lose. Too casual for me and it was reflected in the team’s performance.

By your logic though we may aswell have binned Holland off by then

Agree with the poster above re Chambers having seemed to have lost some drive though

Most of these things - confidence, team spirit etc - all result from one thing - winning football matches. Most professional sportsmen have huge drive and will to win, or else they would never have made the grade as professionals.
We have had the habit of losing regularly for far too long. I was worried this would continue after we were relegated & the early unbeaten run fooled me into thinking that we had got over it. However, we have been playing poorly & getting bad results for 3 moths now so it's a hard habit to break.

From which you somehow extrapolated that they are happy to draw games despite Downes saying the exact opposite of that in the same interview. #fakelawyer

No. I think it’s a contradiction and an odd thing to say. It irritated me last night to hear him say that the team don’t feel under pressure and have nothing to lose. They have a lot to lose.

Had we not won derby games, TV games, cup games with Holland as captain?

They are meaningless platitudes. You're reading way too much into it.

Errr no, not really?

Repeated playoff failures, a record of one win in six versus what was a much worse Norwich side at the time. No cup wins of any significance and whilst I couldn’t provide our exact TV record, from memory it certainly wasn’t stellar (regular losses to Sunderland, Wolves away with Muscat scoring, Birmingham with Mogga scoring an ogga, drab at Forest etc spring to mind)

We had been very much big game bottlers heading into those playoffs

Small difference in dipping out of the play offs to captaining a club that is slipping into complete sh1t street.
