Next season is over, right? 18:44 - Feb 25 with 5909 viewsChris_ITFC

Interesting to read people writing this season off, and I can understand why. But with next season almost certainly starting with Lambert and without a big transfer kitty, what changes?

The best XI based on league apps looks like this:
Holy
Chambers Woolfy Wilson
Edwards Skuse Judge Downes Garbutt
Norwood Jackson

3/11 at high risk of leaving: Woolfy, Downes, Garbutt
4/11 are over 30: Chambers, Wilson, Skuse, Judge
Of the remainder, an optimist could suggest Edwards and Jackson are pre-peak, but to be honest, it's hard to imagine any of those remaining 4 improving significantly.

So if not play-offs this season, when?!

... Let's get drunk.

Realism. You hear them speak and it's clear promotion is vitally important this season.

Still needs a good enough offer to come in.

Do you think our recruitment this season was that bad given what we spent?

KVY aside, I'm not seeing any players who are going to improve as we do.

They will be sold to cover the costs that come with the end of parachute payments for being relegated from the Championship.

We're still in contention because of the start we made, in spite of the level of performances.

Over the course of a season, we won't be in play-off contention. That's the reality on the pitch, no matter how big a club we are off it... which we've proved has very little relevance.

This league isn’t ruled by parachutes, the bigger clubs will always have an advantage as have the money to compete

Doesn’t mean they always will, as we are proving. But those talking about a relegation fight next year are OTT

Sadly, I fear we'll be closer to the fourth division than the second come next season's finish.

and some said we would be better getting relegated.

No, because we are a big and well resourced club in this league.

I think people overestimate the sort of clubs we are up against, this year is just going badly because the coaching staff can’t get it right on the pitch as spent too long p1555ing about with rotation and chopping and changing

At this level we’ll always be a team that is there or thereabouts - look how bad we’ve been for so long and still in play off contention, big clubs with big wage bills tend to be able to stick about.

You've expressed reason... Thank you! 👍

I really can't see him staying. Evans will either pull the rug from under, or he will walk. The abuse he will get. Not even melon chops could withstand that.

Will he walk from a 5 year contract? Probably not.

Will Evans pay up a 5 year contract? Probably not.

Lambert will still be here next year.

That's for sure,if you haven't a proven striker no club in whatever league you are competing inn struggles.

£1.5m for the pair of them should be enough given the way this club is run.

£££££

I really can't see him leaving, he has a 5 year contract and is waiting for the compensation from Evans sacking him or from another club taking him.

So would you say Lambert is more focused on the PayOffs rather than the PlayOffs?

There's also the fact that 8/11 of those are utter, utter sh/t..

Actually, I'll allow Holy. 7/11 are utter, utter sh/t.

So, going back to the OP, can anyone provide a reason for optimism that we'll have an improved XI next season? KVY aside...

I'll have a go ...

Lankaster
Dobra

The possible departure of Chambers and Skuse.

Uuuum ...

We will have a different team next year. It's not as if we will lose players and not gain any.

KVY shows we can find players. I suppose we have to hope.
