Trivial Budget Question 13:12 - Mar 11 with 975 viewsyorkshireblue

Google isn't helping...

Why is the budget generally on a Wednesday? Not just here, but in a lot of other countries as well.

I assume to allow the markets to react and normalise before the weekend?

Just a guess but most MPs and ministers are there anyway for PMQs.

Maybe it's just a case of convenience?

I'm sure it used to be on a Tuesday during the 80s.

Only once on a non-Wednesday since the 1960s apparently... but none the wiser to why it would be on a Wednesday.

I think pre-Blair PMQs was on twice a week - on Tuesday and Thursdays - but for a shorter time?

Aye, it used to be 15 minutes each over two days.

No idea why Budget is on Wednesdays tho. Obviously there are reasons for elections on Thursdays but no real reason for this I guess...

Middle of the week for the stock exchange? To prepare for and manage any jitters pre-budget and give time after?

No idea, actually.
