Booking / Ryanair... 11:18 - Apr 30 with 4967 views | TIB | Has anyone got anything booked with either company or dealing with them at present? I have organised a stag do to Berlin for July and am now trying to work out what's going to happen to try and reassure the group. It seems like Ryanair are going to do all they can to keep flying people whilst Booking.com are saying to cancel I either have to pay the £500 cost or contact the hotel directly to request free cancellation, they have no email and I've yet to have the phone answered. I have read online people stating they've been in same situation and their booked hotels are fully closed up but are still taking booking payments. I currently have visions of being flown to Berlin, where we will be locked in our hotel for two days before maybe being flown home unless the return flight is cancelled!?! Booking / Ryanair... on 14:34 - May 4 by GeoffSentence | They are cheap if all you want is a seat, if you want anything else, like somewhere to put a bag then they become not cheap very quickly. I don't actually mind Ryanair's model of paying for extras, but over the last few years they have ramped it up to such an extent that booking with them has become a complicated nightmare. |
I’ve never minded Ryanair, they offer a vast array of flight destinations at relatively good prices although have to agree, of late, booking with them has become tedious and at times difficult. This booking it took me some time to find the “Confirm” button as it was plastered behind Hire Car, Insurance, Sat Nav, Inflight meal options etc. I’ve not done anything just yet regarding this as wanted to wait for a reply from Ryanair to see if there was any option to change the destination / dates now, rather than having to wait until so close to departure. I get feeling by July 1st there will be fewer restrictions and Ryanair might get away with sending us to Berlin. Just feels totally irresponsible, as much as we want a stag do, everything about going is wrong and I can’t fathom why there is no option for us to say now, we don’t feel comfortable travelling, can we change the dates or have a refund!?!

Sadly, i think your best option is to sit tight & hope that the flight is cancelled & then they will have to give you a refund.

Booking / Ryanair... on 12:34 - May 20 with 932 views | TIB | Email just now to say my flights have been cancelled and I can have a refund or re-route. A load off my mind and surprised that I've received this news now as the flights weren't until 2nd July. I'm sure the refund may take a while but pleased Ryanair have cancelled so far in advance.

I had 11 flights and 6 hotels separately booked for the Euros, a few bits that might help from what I've picked up from all the fun and games I've been having:- All the airlines are handling this completely differently and many change their policies almost daily. For instance Lufthansa were saying you can cancel and have a voucher valid until March next year and can apply for this voucher months after your original flight was due to depart. Now its fly until the end of 2021 but you must arrange it before your original flight date or lose everything. Of course you have to find this out yourself. Ryanair have at times been sneaky in that bookings still showed as live and operating in a customers account so people of course not wanting to travel could only change flights for a fee or cancel and lose everything. However search for the same flight as a new flight and it showed as "sold out" - obviously not sold out as nobody travelling, all other flights on similar dates showing sold out as well - so why show it as sold out and not cancelled? Because then the customer automatically gets a refund / voucher and if Ryanair holds off with the official cancellation the customer might blink first - so seems best to hold off as long as you can until the airline cancels. Hotels - I didn't realise but a lot of hotels across Europe are still open - they may not have many people in but if they're open and you've paid upfront for a non changeable / non refundable booking they have no obligation to refund or change - they've offered the service and not their fault you didn't turn up. You may be covered by insurance (my wonderful policy didn't cover any of this) but best advice I can give is email them very nicely and ask what they can do - don't demand anything but just ask what the position is if you can't travel in light of current circs. Most of mine have met halfway and offered to shift the booking free of charge within the next 12 months some have refunded fully when they didn't have to. And if you booked through an agent they will generally just quote terms and conditions, email the hotel itself directly. Good luck. [Post edited 20 May 2020 13:42]

Or do what I did with the cruise I had paid for on my credit card and ring up your bank to instigate a chargeback. Money never even left my account.

My partner had a flight booked for the 17th June Ryanair cancelled last week so we booked for the 2nd July, that's to Faro, I'm hoping she will get back it's 11 weeks now, pleased they cancelled this early for you.

Booking / Ryanair... on 14:40 - Apr 30 by WeWereZombies | Not so, I spoke to Santander a couple of weeks ago, they could not have been more helpful. Gave me half an hour or so on the phone to explain my situation (one off cruise cancelled, re-booking voucher offered but all their other cruises are way more expensive) and they logged the case straight away, received some very straightforward forms to fill in four days later. Filled in and attached supporting documents, sent by return of post. A few days later the charge was cancelled on my credit card and the day before yesterday I got a confirming letter to acknowledge this and advise that the cruise company have been given forty five days to challenge the cancellation. So I would advise anyone who paid either by credit or debit card (and there was a post on here a few days ago about someone who has been given the chargeback procedure even though they booked by debit card) to contact the card provider, apologise for having to take their time up with the matter (I think that got the call centre operator sympathetic, also it was just after seven in the evening so maybe the longer she kept me talking the better chance there was that mine would be the last call she had to take that day), and be nice to them because they are getting a lot of the calls at the moment I imagine. |
Just a follow up for anyone who is still pondering whether to forget offers of rebooking vouchers from their travel providers or whether to jump down that insurance claim rabbit hole. The forty five days have elapsed, no attempt by the cruise company to challenge the chargeback, so it looks like I am home and dry - all my money back, in fact it never left my account, chargeback is the way to go.

I did a charge back for the UK break that we were supposed to take at Easter. I gave Sykes Cottages ample time to resolve but they didn't and they went public that they wouldn't. Halifax credited me straight away and the 45 days them passed, in that time Sykes emailed to say they have finalised that they won't offer me a refund of any sort.

Booking / Ryanair... on 16:23 - Apr 30 by DanTheMan | Two of my friends are currently going through the refund dance with RyanAir. I'm going through it with LastMinute who have been absolutely awful. Supposed to have refund in 7 days, currently now over a month. I would have been one of the first to have had their holiday cancelled so whilst I imagine they are incredibly busy, it's starting to take the piss a bit. |
A fun update on this! So we're now at nearly the 4 month mark of the holiday being cancelled. Chased multiple times, been told my refund was in a priority queue, all the usual nonsense. Between calls usually left it two weeks as I don't want to be one of those people who gets angry and calls everyday. Anyway, randomly out of the blue today I get two emails for.... vouchers! Which I never at all indicated I was interested in. 4 fooking months and they try and give me vouchers. I can't even use them as they have to be used by this time next year. I've already booked what little holiday time I had this year for Christmas and a little England getaway. Next year I'm getting married so probably won't be able to squeeze that in before a honeymoon. Absolute bastards.

They offered me vouchers months ago. I told them to fwck off I wanted cash. No cash so far forthcoming but am currently pursuing it via the credit card company. They screwed up royally really since the flights weren't until September, we can fly there now anyway so if they had held their nerve and not cancelled everything would have been OK. As it is we have rebooked with Easyjet
