.... but how can there be any sense in any relaxation of the lockdown when there seems to be no significant reduction in the daily new cases of infection. The rolling 7 day average is still around 5000 cases, not dissimilar to where it was on 9th April.

Probably media pressure. The government need to ignore the press they seem to be trying to take over the agenda. They started pressuring the government to increase testing, then it was care homes now its the death rate. At the end of the day, PPE as with other essential items was ordered on just in time deliveries just like the rest of the world. When the whole world decides they want it now supplies are going to stretched. Its the same with testing equipment. Plus we are a very densely populated country.

Give over. The media have been pushing this from the start. The politicians say they're "led by science", but are led more by media-stoked public opinion. There's no leadership from our leaders. Compare with NZ/Jacinta Arden.

Priceless! The King of snide gets snidey at someone being snidey.

As someone who has recently received help and advice from this very forum, it's a shame you seem to think pointless trolling about the virus isn't worthy of condemnation.

The biggest problem here is that you only seem to comment on some posts to insult people.

Then you have the cheek to complain.

I don't get it - it doesn't make sense.

All posters have to do is be nice, it's not hard is it.

So the alternative is to stay in lock-down indefinitely?
That is going to cost more in terms of lives, for both mental health and lack of resources. Lock-down had to be relaxed at some stage; the problem that will cause is simply being deferred until a time when we will have fewer resources.

Just to add to this again, there’s a graph here showing estimated number of cases in the UK since the end of March. If these estimates are anywhere near close then the number of cases is declining pretty rapidly. Also if you haven’t downloaded the app to report symptoms daily please consider doing so.

Hadn't seen that before, very interesting.
The lockdown has done it's job, let's hope I'm now allowed to go back to work.

…..that whilst the average number of new cases is not decreasing hugely, the number of tests has increased.

So the proportion testing positive has decreased, but the numbers haven't.

In terms of deaths todays figure is 18% lower than last Wednesday, which was a decrease on the previous Wednesday, which was a decrease on the previous Wednesday, which was a decrease on the previous Wednesday.

Stay positive.

Stay home.

Wash your hands.

"Plus we are a very densely populated country."

Yep. The effect of covid-19 on countries depends on two factors:
1 - How dense your population is.
2 - How dense your population is.

I think have proved your point with your reply to my post. Which definition due you come under 1 or 2 . I probably think both.

I think you meant 'do' and not 'due' genius.
