Good music books 16:08 - Jun 7 with 4272 views | Funge | I have almost finished The KLF - Chaos, Magic And The Band Who Burnt A Million Pounds. It is mad, and brilliant. Obviously I recommend it. I have ordered The Hacienda - How Not To Run A Club, which I have heard very good things about. Could TWTD please give me some further suggestions? I already have the Blue Christmas Almanac from 2001, so don't worry about that.

Good music books on 08:54 - Jun 8 by urbanblue | I've been listening to The Associates today thanks to this post Debs. What a band and what a talent Billy Mackenzie was. Is the book any good? |
One of my all time favourite bands. The book is excellent - very interesting and well written. I think you would enjoy it.

As well as Hooky's 3 books I'd recommend Stephen Morris's take on the Joy Division years "Record Play Pause" I'd also backup Julian Cope's "Head On" and John Peel's "Margrave of the Marshes" And I'd also recommend that Beach Boys book "Heroes & Villains". I bought that in a discount bookshop for a pound about 20 years ago having just limited knowledge of what I thought was the wholesome surfing Californian band. That book completely changed my opinion of them. I'll also add Stephen Hanley's "Big Midweek: Life Inside the Fall" and Stuart Maconie's "Cider with Roadies" and Danny Sugerman "Wonderland Avenue" [Post edited 8 Jun 2020 11:09]

I think I'll get a copy too, I was going to ask yesterday how highly you recommened it. Love a bit of Billy Mackenzie, what a voice! The Rip It Up book from the previous post is a great call. Very well written and researched but above all digs up tunes and bands I'd just about forgotten about. Agreed, this is a great thread.

Billy's voice was unique and nothing quite like it since. Glad this thread is inspiring others to get certain books! I have plenty I haven't read music wise - guess who has their books in alphabetical order!! Journey To the Centre of The Cramps Manic Street Preachers - Sweet Venom (also plenty of other Manics one I have read and ones about theories of Richey Edwards' disappearance) Margrave Of The Marshes by John Peel Stand and Deliver - The Autobiography by Adam Ant Under The Ivy - The Life and Music of Kate Bush.
