I've been in Spain since Monday, had a covid swab of the back of my throat via my nose. One of my bags got lost on the way to Spain and is still yet to get to me. It seems the lost luggage department at Malaga Airport just aren't working at the moment.
So on to tomorrow.
We are having a meeting in the hotel lobby at 0230LT tomorrow morning, with our Captain. After this meeting we have to go to immigration. There's 18 of us.
After immigration, we have to wait. There is nowhere for us to wait, so we have to wait outside. We have to wait until the process of actually buying the ship is completed, only then will we be able to go and set foot on the ship.
This is likely to be around 0600-0800hrs LT.
Whoever thought being a seafarer would be a good idea?!
Tomorrow I finally join ship on 08:38 - Jun 15 by WeWereZombies
If only Newcy had put the original post onto Badger's 'no subject' thread we could have helped it on the way to ten pages with six pages of every TWTD poster contributing an 'Arrrrr'...
But why are they called pirates...?

Yeah we will have the threat of piracy on the West Africa coast.
18-24 is a standard crew size to be honest.
So, captain + 2nd & 3rd (?) in command; 3 (?) engineers, cook + mate, medic + assistant; and 10 deck swabbers? I'm intrigued by small closed communities like this.
And are you allowed to walk/jog around the deck, or is that considered too dangerous?

4 deck officers, 4 engine officers, 4 able seamen, 2 ordinary seamen, 2 motormen, an oiler, a wiper. Oh and the cook and steward.
We are twenty in total! Can’t believe I forgot about the cook and steward! Although I’d not met them before this morning.
I’m the medical Officer as part of my duties on board. Only because I have done a 5 day course and am in charge of the hospital on board. I’m also in charge of navigating the vessel for 8 hours a day (midnight until 0400 and midday to 1600), keeping cargo watch in port (midnight until 0600, midday to 1800), I’m the safety officer on board, I am also in charge of the maintenance of all the life saving appliances (lifeboats, lifebuoys, rescue boat, life jackets, immersion suits, pyrotechnics, etc). I am also the radio officer, so in charge of all the radio equipment. I’m in charge of all the navigation equipment and making the voyage plans. I also have to ensure that all nautical charts (maps) and publications are kept up to date. Also when I have time, I take care of all the meteorological equipment on board.
I was due a promotion until this COVID thing came along and they said next time.
Walking on deck in full PPE. No running on deck. The deck tends to be very narrow as the containers take up most of the space.

I’ve done a 4 month trip on this boat.
Cripes - I'm guessing you don't get paid six salaries for doing six jobs either!
What do the able and ordinary seamen do - does deck-swabbing still actually take place?
Only had time for first 2 mins of the vid, will watch the other 15 later, cheers.
