Wonder if it is one of those rumours repeated from someone suggesting him on social media. I can only assume it's because we lost Morris and have not retained Rowe or Garbutt that a player like that becomes viable?

I stated that in an earlier post I am assuming he is a good player, just like you are assuming the ITFC youngsters like Dobra and El Miz can cut it at this level.

All I am saying is if there is the availability of signing a potentially decent winger on loan (hopefully minimal cost) why shouldn't we do it, if he isnt any good we can send him back

I've actually seen Dobra, Lankester and El Miz play and they look to be good players. I've not seen Woodburn and I'm not going to assume that just because he's on Liverpool's books he must be better than Dobra, Lankester and El Miz.

If you think Liverpool will loan him out for no real cost and with no guarantee of him playing I think you're being very naive. That's not how it works. If he comes here we'll either have to play him or pay a decent wedge or potentially both.

I'm also not sure it sends out a great message to our talented young players to bring in a player of similar age, equally unproven, who plays in exactly the same position. It doesn't exactly suggest to them that we trust them and that they will be given a chance to prove themselves.

I do understand what you mean and in an ideal world of course we want our young players playing and improving game by game, but I fear to do that we risk sitting in this division for another couple of years which financially would be disastrous.

I have always been of the opinion on playing our players and that is why I never liked MMs style of having almost a different team every year and a team full of loans, but I am starting to think we just need to get out of this league while we can and bringing in short term players may be what is needed.

But hey I could be wrong and hopefully Dobra, El Miz, Lankester and even Folami can prove our young players really are as talented as some suggest. I'm just not sure we can risk another year of not getting promotion.

Sure, but if we're going to take a short term view we need to be bringing in players of proven quality, rather than youngsters who are no more proven than our own. I've often found that you both simultaneously want us to bring through our young players and want us to sign more experience and quality in depth. You can't have it both ways. The latter approach makes the former much harder to achieve.

Well signing players like Ward defensively and bringing in quick young talent going forward can definitely work. Suggesting you cannot have a mixture of young and old players is clearly wrong.

Mick showed this approach worked in the short term.

Neil Warnock is a prime example of a manager who had used this strategy time after time and it is very effective in the short term. Problem is you eventually reach your limits just like MM did with his squad.

Yes a blend of youth and experience works but that has very little to do with signing an unproven youngster on loan who plays in the same kind of role as at least 2 or 3 of our own most promising youngsters. If we want our most promising youngsters to flourish then bringing in players that block their path to the first team isn't a great idea, especially when those players aren't proven quality.
